  • Notes
    • There is a Josias Coate living in W. Branch MM, Miami Co., OH that was married to a Sarah and had a daughter named Mary M. who died in that county on 1/20/1871 and was buried in Union. The info from Hinshaw could easily apply to this family. (C-95) He is likely the Josiah Coate on page 454 of the 1840 Newton Twp., Miami Co., OH census near other members of his family. There is also a Josiah Coate who was in the Co. K, 86th O.V.I. whose name is in large letters on a rather large memorial in the center of a town crossroads in Newton Twp. Ohio for having died a hero in defense of the Union. It did not give the birth dates of any of the dozen soldiers listed.
