He was born 6/23/1777 according to Hinshaw. Marmaduke and Mary Jane Coate appear to sell this James or the James who was the son of Big John, land in 1804 in Newberry County, Misc Rec Bk G p. 108. This James bought 160 acres in Range 5, Township 6, Section 32, Northwest Quarter (now Newton Twp.) on July 19, 1806. He was living in that same township in the 1827 tax lists fairly close to his brothers John and William. (C-55) James married Mary MILES, daughter of William MILES Sr. and Catherine UNKNOWN, on 8/29/1800 in Bush River M.M., Newberry, SC, USA. (Mary MILES died before 1807 in , , SC, USA.) James next married Luranah TEAGUE, daughter of Samuel TEAGUE and Rebecca FURNAS, on 10/28/1807. (Luranah TEAGUE was born on 9/1/1786 in , , SC, USA and died on 2/6/1863 in Union M.M., Miami, OH, USA.)
James and Luranah had the first recorded marriage in the West Branch MM records. (C-198) or 1808. |
