He had the title of "Protector of England". (C-330) His father died when he was quite young and he was taken under the care of the Countess of Westmoreland. The War of the Roses occurred a year after he was appointed by King Henry VI as Protector of the Kingdom. He was killed at the Battle of Wakefield in 1460. 5 6 Richard married Lady Cecily NEVILLE Duchess of York, daughter of Ralph NEVILLE 1st Earl of Westmorland and Joan DE BEAUFORT. (Lady Cecily NEVILLE Duchess of York was born on May 3, 1415 in Raby, Durham, ENG, died on May 31, 1495 in Berkhampstead, Hertfordshire, ENG 5 6 and was buried in Fotheringhay, Northamptonshire, ENG 6.) |
