Henry Coate's Descendants, b. abt. 1595

Here is a YDNA comparison for this group. The following relationships are clarified because the higher the percentage, the more YDNA they share with their cousin's ancestors. If they have an extremely high certainty rate at the generation where they would be related as father and son, this helps verify that they are father and son. Additional findings have been made in this chart because of new knowledge I've gained via https://dna-explained.com/2013/06/18/triangulation-for-y-dna/ about YDNA triangulations. Big John is the son of Gentleman John..
Gentleman John is the grandson of Samuel b. 1670 married to Mary Saunders.
Little John is the father of Henry Coate who died in 1817 and married Mary Pitts.
James Jefferson Coates is the descendant of Big John Coate
Thomas Coates, d. 1800 is the brother of Gentleman John, Uncle to Big John and grandson of Samuel and Mary Saunders Coate. Both Gentleman John and Thomas Coates, d. 1800 are the likely sons of William, son of Samuel and Mary Saunders Coate. This understanding is based upon new knowledge gained at https://dna-explained.com/2013/06/18/triangulation-for-y-dna that taught me how to visualize the YDNA of Gentleman John's father via him and his son Big John's kits. Once I had that, the member for Thomas Coates, d. 1800 only differs by one point from his father. Gentleman John and 2 out of 4 of Big John's descendants also differed by a different 1 point. As we know, slight mutations take place over time. The interesting part was that 2 of Big John's descendants had the same YDNA at 67 points as did their grandfather. This also fits with historical context of place, time and family. Finding autosomal DNA triangulations between descendants of (William) via sons Gentleman John and Thomas will be the definative proof for this line. *See the explanation historically why Gentleman John and Thomas descend via William instead of his brother Henry after the chart below.
Descendants of all of the above ancestors are also the descendants of Henry Coate, b. abt 1595 of Somerset, England.

We know the names of Samuel and Mary Saunders children. Two of them moved south to Newberry Co., SC. Henry was in Quaker records as he moved through the Fredericksburg, VA Quaker Monthly Meeting. Those records in Hunterdon Co., NJ state that he and his sons Marmaduke, James and John got permission to move. They are in Quaker records via much of their journey and can be verified as living in Newberry, SC by 1761. This Henry's sons do not include Gentleman John or Thomas by YDNA or historical record. William appears to buy land in Newberry Co., SC a year after his brother Henry. He left no will and had unverified sons till now. YDNA is telling us that both Gentleman John and Thomas are grandsons of Samuel Coate b. 1670 of Hunterdon Co., NJ. It's stated in multiple published genealogies in the form of books that Gentleman John is the son of William and grandson of Henry. Though no primary documenatation has been found for this relationship, it does make sense that the only other son of Samuel and Mary Saunders Coate to come to Newberry Co., SC who is William was the father of Gentleman John and Thomas. YDNA at 37 points is clearly supporting this. I'm also beginning to collect autosomal DNA evidence via Gedmatch that supports this too. Triangulations are needed in this group as the final proof. Here is what William's YDNA would look like so the descendants of Gentleman John, Thomas and Big John can compare their YDNA with this. When at least 3 members have extended their tests to 67 points, well have a better understanding also.
