Notes for Hans Melchior Henneberger:
Since females were not listed individually on the passenger list, Trudy Schenk, genealogist, says that possibly after the death of Anna Marie, Melchoir's sister, in 1742, the rest of the children may have come over to stay with Melchoir or brother John. John immigrated in 1732 and was probably the first son of Hans and Barbara. Another possibility is that the 3 girls- Elizabeth b.1715, Margretha b.1719, and Anna Barfbara b. 1722- came to the colonies with either John or Melchoir. More than likely they stayed with their mother Barbara after the death of Hans in 1722 and came here with Melchoir rather than John. Elizabeth appears in 1746-7 married to Phillip Hetzer and having 5 children. Anna Barbara also appears as a sponsor. The coincidence of these two names appearing together probably makes them the sisters that immigrated either in 1732 or 1737. The 3 sisters did not appear on any ship list. Another possibility is that the 3 sisters were joined later by their mother after the death of Anna Marie as she was the only one left in Reihen she came to the colonies. No other Hennebergers appear before 1708 or after 1742 in Reihen. [np 717]
As was common in naming practices, the first boy born was named after his father and had no middle name. All the following boys would have their fathers name and also a middle name which was used rather than a first name. Melchoir was the second of that name, the first must have died very young. [np 717, 719]
Because Melchoir was only 16 when he immigrated, he was almost certainly indentured. Indentures would have been a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 7 years. Underage immigrants would have been indentured until age 21, which makes Melchoir indentured until 1741 [np 717]
