• Notes

  James and a Rebekah Coats were members of the Bush River Baptist Church in Newberry, South Carolina. Rebekah Coats was excommunicated in June of 1805. She was counciled during several meetings previous to that about her love of drink, ws likely why she was excommunicated. This would have occurred a year before her husband's death and 2 years before her second marriage. In 1809, after her first husband died, she is listed in a deed where she sold fifty acres to Joseph Hall, her son-in-law, on land that adjoined hers, Stephen McGraw/McCraw, John Clary and John Belton's land.
