  1. 1.  Mary Ann STEVENS was born on 7 Jul 1832 in Chelsea, Middlesex, ENG; was christened on 14 Oct 1832 in St. Luke, Chelsea, Middlesex, ENG (daughter of Joseph STEVENS and Mary UNKNOWN); and died.

Generation: 2

  1. 2.  Joseph STEVENS was born about 1817; died in 1851 in Of Clerkenwall, Middlesex, England.

    Notes:

Joseph might have also had a son named Joseph born abt 1846 in Chelsea, co. Middlesex, England. Joseph Jr. was a baker living at 30 Wastdale Rd., Lewisham, Kent, England in the 1881 census who was born in Chelsea. He might have had a son named John who lived in the same place as son George Richard Stevens (Rugby, England) when he was having children in the same time frame as George R. If John is Joseph's son, he was married to an Emma. (c-2482) He might possibly be the Joseph who married Maria King in Shoreditch, London, co. Middlesex, England in St. Leonards on Nov. 26, 1821, the Joseph Stevens who married Maria Parker in 1826 in Nuneaton, Warwick, England or the Joseph Stevens who married Mary Page at Crondale, Oct. 27, 1829. Likely relatives of Joseph who were having children in Shoreditch, London, England at the same time as Joseph were John Stevens married to Charlotte, and Simon Stevens married to Lucy. In the 1881 census records for England, possible siblings born and christened at St. Luke's in Middlesex Co., ENG were George Stevens, age 60; John Henry Stevens, age 58; and Charles R., age 56. (C-2497, 2498, 2499) Joseph died previous to the marriage of his son George Richard Stevens in 1854 according to their marriage certificate. He was listed as a mercantile clerk before his death in this same record. He is possibly the Joseph in the 1851 census living in St. James, Clerkenwell, Middlesex, England which is the same place as his likely son George worked. Joseph is listed as a bookmaker. His wife's name was Mary. Most of their children were born in Chelsea where George was born. Everything is a good fit except for the fact that Joseph was a mere 13 and his wife 12 when they had George putting the theory into a questionable nature. There is no Joseph and Mary Stevens that match these ages in the 1841 census, so I'm thinking these ages are incorrect. The family that most closely matches this Joseph and Mary are both age 30 in the 1841 census, born and living in Middlesex Co., England with what could be Joseph's older brother, George, b. ca 1801. George looks like he was a Lumber President and Joseph worked for him. They had sons: George, age 13, Richard, age 10, Henry age 5 or 6, and daughter's Mary, age 6, and Clara, age 2. Specifically they were living in St. Leonard, Shoreditch, Middlesex, England in 1841.

Joseph married Mary UNKNOWN. Mary was born about 1818 in , Essex, England; died after 3 Sep 1854. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
