    Notes:

He might be the Tony Cesario, b. 1912, who enlisted in World War II on Jun 4, 1942 in San Francisco, California. He was seperated without dependants at the time. He was in the hotel and restaurant business. He was living next to George J. Dudick's family in the 1930 census for Hamlin, McKean Co., Pennsylvania. John Parilla was living with him. He was listed as a laborer in the brickworks. George was listed as a fireman for the brickworks. In the 1940 census, he is the Anthony Cesario living in Mt. 1. 4.  Michael (Mick) Anthony CESARIOMichael (Mick) Anthony CESARIO was born on 6 Aug 1863 in Of Gervino, Italy (son of Tony CESARIO and Josephine GENELLI); died on 8 Dec 1929 in Kushequa, , PA, USA; was buried in Bridge View Cemetery, Mt. Jewett, Mckean, PA, USA.

    Notes:

Mike was a forman who worked in that capacity on the rebuild of the Kinzu Bridge. He appears in a picture on a pamphlet describing it's rebuild. (D-167) That means he was probably in Pennsylvania by May of 1900. Mike was originally from Gervino, near Naples, Italy. He left a wife and two daughters behind when he came to work on the bridge. His eldest daughter was named Cosenza. I have a letter in Italian in my files where the daughters tried to obtain property from their father in 1932. (D-167) He and Mary met in Mt. Alton. They lived at Johnstown when their daughter, Josephine was born. They moved to Backus and then Kushekaw while their children were young. He married Mary twice, once in 1909 and the second in 1922 when he discovered his first wife had died back in Italy. (C-165)

Michael married Marie VOVCSIK on 5 Jun 1909 in Cattaraugus, New York, USA. Marie (daughter of Mihaly VOVCSIK and Maria BOGDAN) was born on 25 Dec 1862 in Budapest, Budapest, Hungary; died on 18 Aug 1932 in Mt. Jewett, Mckean, PA, USA; was buried after 18 Aug 1932 in Bridgeview Cemetery, Mt. Jewett, Mckean, PA, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 5.  Marie VOVCSIK was born on 25 Dec 1862 in Budapest, Budapest, Hungary (daughter of Mihaly VOVCSIK and Maria BOGDAN); died on 18 Aug 1932 in Mt. Jewett, Mckean, PA, USA; was buried after 18 Aug 1932 in Bridgeview Cemetery, Mt. Jewett, Mckean, PA, USA.

    Notes:

Mary lists her birth year as 1867 in the 1900 U.S. Census for Elk Co., Pennsylvania. She is age 24 in 1892 when she emmigrated to this country in New York estimating her birth as 1867 or 1868. In her marriage licenses though, she lists her birth date as 1865. She lists her parents as Mike Wolfe and her mother as Maria Bugdon in one of her marriage applications to her second husband, Mike Cesario.

When her first husband died unexpectedly in 1907, it left her with young children whom were taken in by Father Baker's home while she found work. Their youngest daughter, Julia, was "adopted" out. Mary searched for this daughter for years but sadly passed before she found her.

The year after her husband died was surely a very difficult one for Mary even beyond these terrible losses. Her house burnt down and she was accused of murder. She went to trial where the charges were dismissed due to lack of evidence.

Even after this was over, she was still heartbroken and working to find a way to get her children back under her care. Her children, even in their old age, remembered how much they wanted to be back with her too. I can't imagine the pressures she was under.

Mary appears to have married her second husband, Mike Cesario, twice. The first time occurred on 6/5/1909 in Limestone, Cattaraugus Co., NY. They lived in Newton, PA at the time. They married again in 1922. No divorce has been found in between the two marriages. According to her daughter Josephine, it was because Michael had a wife back in Italy. After he heard of his first wife's death, they married the second time. It is not known whether Mary knew of Michael's other wife, when she married him in 1909.

In her 2nd marriage record, she lists her 1st husband's death date as Oct. 30, 1906. It turns out that he died in the night of Nov. 1st in 1907 according to the Johnsonburg Press where his name is misspelled as Dudek. (D-Doc)

Mary was Catholic, but was not accepted by the Catholic Church at the end of her days. She still was a very strong Christian who read the bible daily according to her son Tony. She was remembered by her children and her nieces and nephews for her kindness, support and care.

  3. 10.  Mihaly VOVCSIK was born in 1842 in Of Neviczke, Ung, Ungvasi Jaros, Magyar (Now In Ukraine) (son of Unknown VOVCSIK and Juliana VEGESA); died after 1920 in Of Neviczke, Ung, Ungvasi Jaros, Magyar (Now In Ukraine).

    Notes:

The spelling of this name is any of the following in this country: Volcsik, Vovcsik, Vocsik, Vovcsol, Volcik,Welshik, Wolfshik, and/or Wolfe. The name is also spelled "Wojciech" in Polish. The name Volcik originally goes back to Saint Adalbert Vojtech who converted Poland to Christianity. He was the first Bishop of Prague from 982 onwards and a Czech Prince. He was expelled from Bohemia in 995 and went to Poland in 996 on a mission to the Prussians. He was killed by the Prussians in 997 and canonized in 999. (D-125) This information on Saint Adalbert was from a Wojciech descendant whose family came from Hluboczek, Borszczow, Galecia, Austria. It is now a part of the Ukraine. (D-125b)

Anna, the wife of their son, George Vosick, lived to over 100. When interviewed, she said that Mike and Maria Vocsik were blessed with 11 children. Mike's son, Mike, came over as an adult after 1920 when Sue and John Joseph Dudick were married according to John and Sue Dudick. According to the immigration records for his daughter Veron Vovcsik Perilla, she was born in Nevicske, Hungary (now Nevitske in the Ukraine) in 1884. Her father, Mihaly Wocsik/Vovcsik was living in Nevicske in this 1910 emigration record for his daughter.

Other persons of this same surname spelled Vovcsik from the Nevicske area are Gabor, Jozsef, Zsuzsa, Mihaly, and Julia. There is an Olean Volcsik who came on the Southwark through Antwerp Belgium from .....arina, Hungary in 1899. She was born about 1878 and is a peer and possible relative of this family. Julia is probably the one who arrived on May 26, 1910 from the port of Fiume on the Pannonia. She was age 26 at the time and might be a spouse to one of Mike's sons.

I hired a researcher to photograph and send me the 1869 census for Neviczke. I found this Michael with his wife, children and 2 siblings living in Neviczke, Hungary. They were all born in the same state and it is very difficult to read. It looks like the abbreviation "Helbe". The spelling for the state where born was common amongst those that lived in Neviczke. Other clearer spellings look like Helybe or Hebybe. The town's name for the census was spelled Nevicke, Magyar with Magyar being the state's name in 1869. It looked like all of them had been born in Nev. or Nevicke (Helybe, Magyar). There is a Helybe, Magyar in a foreign version of Wikipdedia so I'm taking that that is the correct spelling. In this 1869 census Mihaly, Maria and family are living in the same household with brother Gyorgy's family. They are living just 4 doors down from Janos Vovcsik born in 1830 that is also a likely sibling.

Mihaly married Maria BOGDAN. Maria (daughter of Unknown BOGDAN and Anna MELERUIS) was born in 1848 in Of Neviczke, Ung, Ungvasi Jaros, Magyar (Now In Ukraine); died after 1920. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  4. 11.  Maria BOGDANMaria BOGDAN was born in 1848 in Of Neviczke, Ung, Ungvasi Jaros, Magyar (Now In Ukraine) (daughter of Unknown BOGDAN and Anna MELERUIS); died after 1920.

    Notes:

Mary's maiden name listed in her daughter's first marriage application to Michael Cesario is Mary Budgon and in her second is Mary Smith. Smith was often a translation of a much different common name in the old country. However, in this case, I simply believe Mary said the name of a person was Smith when she didn't want to reveal the identity of a person. This is based on the fact that in her first marriage application she said her father's name was Mike Smith. (D-170) In records of this family from Neviczke, in what is now the Ukraine, this name was spelled Bogdan or Bogdoin. Maria and Joseph Dudik's first son Andras had his baptism witnessed by a Julianna Bogdoin. This could easily be a sister, mother or niece of this Maria Bogdan. Also, when Maria's daughter, Maria Vocsik, emmigrated to the U.S. in 1892, she traveled with a female relative of her mother's named (Baoko)? Bogdan, age 18, a likely sister or cousin. When an untranslated record occurs for a Bax.. Dudik, witnesses were a Joseph Popovitz and an a Borbola Bogdan (female).
