| 2. | Edward SUTTON, Lord Dudley was born in 1567; was christened on 17 Sep 1567 (son of Edward SUTTON and Jane STANLEY); died on 23 Jun 1643 in Dudley, Worcestershire, ENG; was buried on 24 Jun 1643 in St. Edmunds, Dudley, Staffordshire, ENG. Notes: Edward was the 5th Lord Dudley. He apparently fathered children at an early age, as he was grandfathered by the time he was 35 years old. He had 11 children by his mistress, Elizabeth Tomlinson. Mistresses were common in those days, as marriages were arranged to maintain a family's power. He actually had his first child by her the year before he was married to Theodosia and had his first legitimate son. Theodosia moved to London by the year 1690 according to first hand research done by Lynn van Rooijin McCullough. There is a record that states that Elizabeth went to live with Sutton and it would appear likely that she helped raise his children, her children and his grandson Ward. Elizabeth Tomlinson also remembers Lord Dudley's children by Theodosia in her will. Edward married Theodosia HARRINGTON on 6 Dec 1581. Theodosia died in Nov 1649; was buried on 1 Dec 1649. According to researcher, Leo van de Pas, John Sutton "was a half-wit, nicknamed 'Lord Quondam', who sold much of the family landholdings. His wife, Cicely Grey, so disliked him that she requested to be buried in her own family plot under her maiden name!" John married Cicely GREY.
