2. | George VOVCSIK was born on 17 Jul 1890 in Neviczke, Ung, Ungvasi Jaros, Magyar (Now In Ukraine); was christened on 20 Jul 1890 (son of Mihaly VOVCSIK and Maria BOGDAN); died about 1923 in Of Coudersport, Potter, PA, USA. Notes: Though not likely, he could belong to the following Ellis Island record if he was married to another woman before he married Anna: Gyorgy Volcsik from Hungary, arrived at Ellis on Aug. 15, 1895, age 35 years, married, on the Spree from Bremen, Germany. He would be from the right place and time to be this George. (D-202) According to his wife's 103rd birthday newspaper article in the Times Herald, his wife, Anna, was 37 at the time of his death with 7 children to raise alone, suggesting that he died around 1923. According to Ken Anderson, he had left his wife and children previously to his death in the 1930's and went to New York City. This is supported by the fact that a WWII draft registration card shows his living in the Bowery in New York city in 1942 and by the fact that she still lists herself as married in the 1940 census where she is the head of household. George married Anna JURIK on 29 May 1910. Anna was born on 1 Oct 1886 in , , , Hungary; died on 17 Nov 1991 in Coudersport, Potter, PA, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
3. | Anna JURIK was born on 1 Oct 1886 in , , , Hungary; died on 17 Nov 1991 in Coudersport, Potter, PA, USA. Notes: Anna was lured to America's promise at age 17 in 1903. She arrived on Mar. 12, 1903 according to Ellis Island records. She was Slovak from Turduka, Hungary. It was supposedly a parish in Austria Hungary on the Russian border that sounded like Ungar or Uzarag. Her passage was paid by her step brother of unknown name. She was going to stay with her brother ( ) Mahla? in Vasfield, Massachusetts. She found the first years difficult, but met and married her husband, George Vosick, by 1910. It might be important to note that she began dating George Vosick in this country because she knew the Vosick family from near her home in Europe. She met him working in the same cigar factory that she worked in, and because she knew his family in the old country, they started dating. It is interesting that the passengers she is listed directly after are a Joseph Hershkowitz, age 22, who was Jewish from Jassy, Romania who was going to stay with his brother-in-law, David Rosner in New York. The Hershovics married into the Dudick family also. Anna lived to be at least 103 years old and was a member of the St. Eulalia Roman Catholic Church. She was living at Coudersport, PA on her 103rd birthday. (D-164, 165) Her social security number was 160-50-1204. Anna possibly returned to the old country: Anna Velcsik, age 25, married, ethnicity: Hung, Slovak, residence: Gezseny, Hungary, arriving at Ellis Island on October 01, 1912, on the ship, Kronprinzessin Cecilie embarking from Bremen, Germany though in her 103 birthday party news article in the Times Herald is says she never had a chance to return to the old country - that she had simply been able to send her sister Mary a ticket to come to the U.S.

4. | Mihaly VOVCSIK was born in 1842 in Of Neviczke, Ung, Ungvasi Jaros, Magyar (Now In Ukraine) (son of Unknown VOVCSIK and Juliana VEGESA); died after 1920 in Of Neviczke, Ung, Ungvasi Jaros, Magyar (Now In Ukraine). Notes: The spelling of this name is any of the following in this country: Volcsik, Vovcsik, Vocsik, Vovcsol, Volcik,Welshik, Wolfshik, and/or Wolfe. The name is also spelled "Wojciech" in Polish. The name Volcik originally goes back to Saint Adalbert Vojtech who converted Poland to Christianity. He was the first Bishop of Prague from 982 onwards and a Czech Prince. He was expelled from Bohemia in 995 and went to Poland in 996 on a mission to the Prussians. He was killed by the Prussians in 997 and canonized in 999. (D-125) This information on Saint Adalbert was from a Wojciech descendant whose family came from Hluboczek, Borszczow, Galecia, Austria. It is now a part of the Ukraine. (D-125b) Mihaly married Maria BOGDAN. Maria (daughter of Unknown BOGDAN and Anna MELERUIS) was born in 1848 in Of Neviczke, Ung, Ungvasi Jaros, Magyar (Now In Ukraine); died after 1920. 5. | Maria BOGDAN was born in 1848 in Of Neviczke, Ung, Ungvasi Jaros, Magyar (Now In Ukraine) (daughter of Unknown BOGDAN and Anna MELERUIS); died after 1920. Notes: Mary's maiden name listed in her daughter's first marriage application to Michael Cesario is Mary Budgon and in her second is Mary Smith. Smith was often a translation of a much different common name in the old country. However, in this case, I simply believe Mary said the name of a person was Smith when she didn't want to reveal the identity of a person. This is based on the fact that in her first marriage application she said her father's name was Mike Smith. (D-170) In records of this family from Neviczke, in what is now the Ukraine, this name was spelled Bogdan or Bogdoin. Maria and Joseph Dudik's first son Andras had his baptism witnessed by a Julianna Bogdoin. This could easily be a sister, mother or niece of this Maria Bogdan. Also, when Maria's daughter, Maria Vocsik, emmigrated to the U.S. in 1892, she traveled with a female relative of her mother's named (Baoko)? Bogdan, age 18, a likely sister or cousin. When an untranslated record occurs for a Bax.. Dudik, witnesses were a Joseph Popovitz and an a Borbola Bogdan (female).

9. | Juliana VEGESA was born in 1803; died after 1869 in Of Neviczke, Ung, Ungvasi Jaros, Magyar (Now In Ukraine). Notes: She was a widow who was the mother-in-law of a Janos Bogdan, and therefore the mother of his wife, Anna Vovcsik. They lived in house 55 of Neviczke in 1869. I'm not absolutely sure the s is an s in her name. It could be an r or a t.

11. | Anna MELERUIS was born about 1810; died after 1869 in Of Neviczke, Ung, Ungvasi Jaros, Magyar (Now In Ukraine). Notes: It is extremely difficult to read her last name in the 1869 census. She is listed as the head of household's mother-in-law in house 36 and would be Anna Bogdan's mother. She is listed as a widow.
