I am not certain that this William married this Sarah, but by timing and place it seemed the most logical. He might have been the one of several William's in North Petherton who was buried on 6 Aug 1726 in North Petherton. Records do not list any relatives or age.

His father is listed as William of Curry Rivel in his baptismal record. He was listed in his Grandfather William's will made in 1684. He is listed of North Petherton when he was buried in Curry Rivel Parish. The fact that he wished to be buried in Curry Rivel however, indicates parental ties to Curry Rivel Parish. He is likely the Marmaduke Coate who had his will proved in Taunton in 1728 from North Petherton on page 100.

She is listed as the mother of all her children along with Marmaduke in their baptismal records. Her given name is spelled differently in almost every document with spellings like Salhisah Coate.

He wrote his will in Curry Rivel on Oct. 3, 1716 under the title of Yeoman. He named his sons William, John,Thomas, Robert, Jeffery, Jacob, Marmaduke, and daughters Elizabeth, Joan, Mary and Sarah. His wife, Elizabeth, was named his executrix. It was witnessed by James Hurd, John Richfield, and Thomas Crofts. It is theory on my part that he had 3 wives, 2 of them named Elizabeth. In this time period and place most families lost a lot of children before adulthood and the number of children he lists in his will plus the larger number in the christening records would indicate that his family was significantly larger than the number of children living at the time of this will. He was also wealthy as indicated by the fact that his will had a duplicate in the Prerogative records of Chanterbury.

She is listed as the wife of William in her burial record. Mother and daughter appear to have been buried within 2 days of each other.

He was the executor of his father's will that was written in Nov. 1658. His father bequeths legacies to his 5 children. He could be the William Coate who was buried in Curry Rivel, England on 19 SEP 1676 or July of 1678. All of his listed living children were under the age of 21 in his father's will. They could be born anywhere from the late 1630's to 1657.

He is somehow related to the Philip Cote/Coate who made his will in 1727 in Isle of Abbots and bequeathed his kinsman, Samuel Prigge legacies. Samuel Prigge is a grandson of this William and Elizabeth Coate through their daughter Mary. It's interesting but their literally is a descendant of this couple named William and Elizabeth that also had a daughter Elizabeth that was christened 50 years to the day from their daughter Elizabeth in the baptismal records. This is not a typo. I have verified and seen both original records. It is theory on my part that the William and Elizabeth whom are the parents of this Elizabeth are also the progenitors of Walter and another unknown male of Coates lines in North Petherton by timing. This is supported by the fact that Walter and his unknown brother names their first sons William.
