He is named William with his 1st and 3rd wives and with wife Justin when son Henry was born and he was called WA Justin and his son WA was born. Here are the possibilities for his parentage.1) Sons of Marmaduke Coate and Phillipe Buffine are the only Drayton family carrying down the name William up to this period in time. From that line, only his son Samuel was of an appropriate age to be William A's father, so I consider this the most likely possibility.2) Richard's son Richard was born in 1603 and could be his father.3) The original John Cotte of Drayton's other sons that made it to adulthood whom were Henry, John and possibly Thomas could be his father. Only Thomas is in the records as having children.

William married Justin UNKNOWN about 1661. Justin was born before 1648; died in Aug 1670 in Drayton Parish, Somerset, England; was buried on 13 Aug 1670 in St. Catherine, Drayton, Somerset, England. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

This Henry is listed as Henry Coate "The Elder" of Burton Drayton when his daughter Elizabeth married John Podger. Since neither is listed in the will of Henry of Hambrige, it's possible that the nickname Henry "the Elder" stands for a Henry belonging to the Drayton Parish instead of the Henry belonging to Hambridge. This Henry of Drayton does have a son Henry baptised in the records which supports him being called "The Elder" in Drayton.
