  1. 1.  Jane SHORT was born after 1654 (daughter of Henry (Henrie) SHORT, Sr.); and died.

Generation: 2

  1. 2.  Henry (Henrie) SHORT, Sr. was born about Sep 1614 in Walberton, Sussex, ENG; was christened on 2 Oct 1614 in Walberton, Sussex, ENG (son of John SHORT and Joan BEEDING); died after 16 Dec 1675 in Walberton, Sussex, ENG.

    Notes:

Henry's second marriage is conjecture from the will believed to be this Henry's. There is a possibility that the will below belongs to his nephew, Harry, son of brother John, instead. I have checked all the marriage, will and burial records/indexes sent to me by Lauren Vargo, and have found no second mention of a Harry or second Henry Short. Therefore, our clearest belief is that the following will belongs to this Henry. If so, he only bequeathed items to the likely children of his second marriage. The sons of his first marriage would have been old enough to be off on their own and probably provided for already. Henry Sr.'s will is as follows: In the name of God Amen, the Sixteenth day of December Anno (Dui) 1675 I Henry Short sy ( ) of Walborton in the County of Sussex Vistua(l ) being Sick in body butt of perfect memory praised be to God do ordain & make this my last will & testament in manner & form following first I bequath my Soul to almighty God my Creator believing and hopeing to be (saved) by the (merrilly) & (mercy) of my Redeemer Christ Jesus And as for my (comporat?) Generation: 3

  1. 4.  John SHORT died about 27 May 1638 in Walberton, Sussex, ENG; was buried on 28 May 1638 in Walberton, Sussex, ENG.

    Notes:

This Short line is likely to go back to a William Short who left a will in 1538 in Walberton, Sussex, ENG. The will is currently be translated by a professional researcher (7/98) as it's in old English. (C-1576) It is possible that this John was married once before he married Joan. This is because of an unexplained baptism of a Thomas Short, son of John Short on Oct. 26, 1606. (C-1592) This could also indicate that his first and seconds sons, John and Thomas had a different mother than Joan Beeding.

A partial transcription of the will of John Short is as follows: "May 27 1638, 14th year of reign of Lord King Charles, John Short the elder, husbandman, of the parish of Walberton, County of Sussex, I give and bequeath to my eldest son John Short five pounds of lawful money of England to be paid him within a year after my death. Item. Give and bequeath to two grandchildren John and Harry the sons of the said John Short... Item, I give and bequeath to my second son Thomas Short the sum of Twenty pounds of god and lawfull monoy of England to be payd him within halfe a year after my decease Item, to Agnes my daughter in law the wife of the sayd Thomas forty shillings to be paid his wife a half a year after my decease Item I give and bequeath to the Sayd Agnes (ealfo) a dozen (po ) to be delivered her within a month after my decease ...Item, I give and bequeath to my godchildren (......................) payd Thomas (Renit) (if) demanded) Item, I give and bequeth five shillings of lawfull Inglish monoy to the poor of Walberton to be payd them the day of my buryall; Item, I give & bequeath to the (parrish Church) of Walberton (....... ........) to be payd the (....... .... .... ..... .. ... after my death) Item; I give and bequeath to my wife Joane Short and my son Henry Short all the residu... (Joane and Henry are executors.)

John married Joan BEEDING on 24 Jan 1613 in Walberton, Sussex, ENG. Joan died about 5 Jan 1646 in Walberton, Sussex, ENG; was buried on 6 Jan 1646 in Walberton, Sussex, ENG. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 5.  Joan BEEDING died about 5 Jan 1646 in Walberton, Sussex, ENG; was buried on 6 Jan 1646 in Walberton, Sussex, ENG.

    Notes:

There is a John Beeding who had a son John baptized on Oct 4, 1607 and a daughter, Joan on Dec 9, 1608 in Walberton, ENG. He could easily be Joan's older brother or cousin. (C-1592) From this pattern, I also suspect Joan's mother's name to be Joan.
