4. | ![]() Notes: He attended the wedding of his sister, Amey Coate in 1780 in the Kingwood Monthly Meeting, NJ. He is probably the William who moved from Kingswood MM, Hunterdon Co., NJ to Buckingham on certificate dated 13/11/1788. He declared his intentions to marry Mary Coate Price that same day. He might be the William who was in the Philadelphia Co. 1800 Census records as being between the age of 21 and 45. There is information on a William and his brother John, that match this William and his brother John fairly well. The info from Diane at KDEEDID@aol.com estimates William's birth at 1763 with a death date of Sep 9, 1838 from a family bible. He was listed at age 75 in the bible. He lived in Chester Co., Pennsylvania. (C-2074) Goeff Coates has the complete family bible of this William Coates and his 2nd wife. It gives his birthdate as the 3rd mo, 27th day of 1764, whereas info from Parks give his birthdate as 3/26/1765. His family bible is naturally likely to be more accurate. It is theory at this point that William Coates married to Mary Hambleton in Humphries' "Pennsylvania Births" with sons Elisa and William is the same William that I previously had listed as married to Mary Coate. I've combined the two Williams as they both lived in Bucks Co., PA at the same time and had two known sons of the same age as well as a wife named Mary. DNA evidence would solidify this theory. It is still a question as to whether he had one or two wives. William and Mary Hambleton had their first child in 1799. This was William's second marriage. Their children are listed in the Buckingham Monthly Meeting records for Bucks Co., Pennsylvania. (C-2155) William married Mary HAMBLETON before 1799 in Kingwood M.M., Hunterdon, NJ. Mary was born on 14 Feb 1774 in Solebury, Bucks, PA; died on 14 Feb 1856 in Solebury, Bucks, PA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |

8. | Thomas COATES was born in 8th da 1st mo 1717 in Kingswood M.M., Hunterdon, NJ; was christened in 1717 (son of John COATE and Unknown); died in 1780 in Solebury, Bucks, Pennsylvania, USA. Notes: This Thomas is possibly the son of John Coate as placed here and if not son, is still highly likely to be related to him. He was born about 10 years before John married Esther Doughty, but the connection between them is suggested on Jan. 10, 1743 when John and Esther Coate deeded 20 acres to Thomas Coate, Weaver of the tract he previously purchased from John's father-in-law. He sold this land ten years later to Nathaniel Leforge close to the time when he married and purchased land in Amwell Twp., Hunterdon Co, NJ from Joseph King (his possible father-in-law). (Park) The other good theory as to his parentage is that he is the son of the Thomas Coate, weaver, of Salem Co., N.J. who died in 1733. (Park) Thomas was alive in 1778 and 1780 when he witnessed his daughter, Hannah and Amey's marriages. He was dead by Apr. 10, 1788 when his wife is listed as a widow in a certificate of transfer to the Buckingham M.M. in Bucks Co., Pennsylvania. Thomas married Elizabeth KING on 8 Feb 1753 in Kingwood M.M., Hunterdon, NJ. Elizabeth (daughter of John KING and Elizabeth WOODWARD) was born in 12th da 4th mo 1729 in , , NJ, USA; died after 1789 in , Bucks, Pennsylvania, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
