The following is from Chalkley that applies to this Andrew according to Sharon Jebavy:1797--"November 3, Andrew Young and Isaac Glass, surety. Andrew Young and Margaret Glass, daughter of above Isaac Glass. Know all men by these presents, that we, Andrew Young and Isaac Glass, are held and firmly bound unto His Excellency, James Wood, Esquire, Governor of Virginia, and his successors, in the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars, to the payment whereof, well and truly to be made, we do bind ourselves, our heirs and each of our joint and several heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents, sealed with our seals, and dated the third day of November, 1797, in the twenty-second year of the Commonwealth. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a marriage shortly to be solemnized between the above-bound Andrew Young, Bachelor, and Margaret Glass, daughter of the above-named Isaac Glass, of Augusta County: if therefore there shall be no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage, then this obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue. His will is abstracted as follows by Linda Baker in a 2010 email."1793 - March 7th - Augusta Co., VA Will Book No. VIII p54 (Vol. III p200) Will of Andrew YOUNG's father Robert YOUNG - Proved 16th April 1793...First I give and Bequeath unto Margaret my Wife a Cow and horse to be kept on the place with all the household furniture to be at her Disposal and her living on the place while she remains single to be maintained by my son Andrew with grain that will keep the family. Likewise I bequeath unto my Daughter Jean all the Effects that she now Claims with her living on the place to be maintained by Andrew my son while she remains unmarried and a horse & Cow kept on the place...Likewise I Give and Bequeath unto James my son the sum of twenty pounds Lawful mony of Virginia to be paid by my son Andrew after he comes of age or my Executors before he comes of age if they can Likewise I Give and Bequeath unto Robert my son the sum of twenty pounds Lawful mony of Virginia to be paid by my son Andrew after he comes of age or my Executors before he comes of age if they can Likewise I Give and Bequeath unto William my son the sum of thirty pounds lawful money of Virginia to be paid by my son Andrew after he comes of Age or my Executores before he comes of age if they can...Likewise I Give and Bequeath unto Andrew my son all my Land that is the plantation I now live on by him his Heirs and Assigns freely to possessed and enjoyed with all my farming utensils upon paying therefore mentioned Legacies ...7 Mar 1793: To wife, Margaret, to be maintained by son Andrew; to dau., Jean, unmarried; to dau., Margaret Glenn; to son, James, infant; to son, Robert, infant; to son, William, infant; to dau., Sarah Curry; to dau., Lydia, unmarried; to son, Andrew, all land. Executors: son, William and George Glenn. Teste: John Denson, Samuel Curry, Robert Curry. Proved 16th April 1793 by John Dennison and the Currys." Infant at the time meant under age. There was no term for minor at that time. George Glenn, one of his executors, was the father-in-law of Robert's daughter, Margaret and son Robert's wife, Sarah Glenn. He was also a peer of Robert Young and likely trusted friend. (CL-468) The original is in Will Book VIII, p. 54, Augusta Co., VA.

Robert's estate appraisement is listed on Page 63 in Chalkley, Vol 3.--Robert Young's appraisement by John Dennison, James Young, Jno. Laur. July 1793.

Young) as administrators of Jas. Davis.*Page 11.--13th May, 1767. John Creighton's estate appraised by Wm. McKee, Robt. Young, Jno. McKee.*Page 102.--10th June, 1772. Jane Patterson's estate appraised by John Blair, James Gambel, Robert Young, William Frame. *Restored Marriage Bonds, Volume 9, 1802-1803, pg. 65Hugh Kennedy and James Young, surety, in bond on marriage of said Hugh Kennedy and Elizabeth Young, daughter of Robert Young, dec., of Augusta Co., dated 11 Nov 1802, consent by James Young for sister Elizabeth, past 21 years to marry Hugh Kennedy of Rockbridge co., VA." This record fits here perfectly except for the fact that Elizabeth is not listed in Robert's will. I suggest this is because he named all the children in his will by his first wife in his will, and felt that his 2nd wife would care properly for their daughter Elizabeth in her own will.

It is theory on my part that John Young is the brother of James and Robert Young, all of Naked Creek. John appears in Naked Creek first. He interacts with James or his son-in-laws in some wills of the time. We do know that they are the ones that interacted with each other in Naked Creek instead of interacting with other Youngs in the Borden and Beverly tracts of land.

John purchased 135 acres of land in the drafts on Naked Creek on Dec. 14, 1748 according to Survey Book 1, pg. 29. (Young, John. Publication 12 July 1750., available on microfilm. Virginia State Land Office. Patents 1-42, reels 1-41, Location: Augusta County. Description: 135 acres on the drafts of Naked Creek. Source: Land Office Patents No. 30, 1750-1752, p. 226, Reel 28). This land was an original land grant from the person given the tract by George II of Great Britain, France and Ireland. It bordered on land owned by James Bell and John Rutledge. The deed said that he had to pay for it once a year for 3 years at the Feast of the Arch Angel Michael. The sale was for 15 pounds. He also had to apparently improve 3 acres of each 50 acres of land purchased within a 3-year period to be able to keep the land as his own. He purchased an additional 50 acres adjoining his land in 1751 on page 44 of that same book. He then sold 335 of these acres to James Young in 1759: Chaukley, V. 3, Page 122.--16th May, 1759. John Young and Elizabeth ( ) to James Young, \'a3 30, 2 tracts containing 335 acres on a branch of Naked Creek, 200 acres conveyed to John by Hugh Campbell, 18th May, 1749, and 135 acres patented to John, 12th July, 1750, near corner of James Bell and John Rutledge. Erwin's land. Teste: James Gambel. The James Young was probably his son James who was old enough to pay fees to the court in the following 1759 record.

Johns son's James and Robert are listed as his sons in the following Chalkley record, V.II. They were listed in the fee books by the Clerk of Court in 1759 and distinguished from other James and Roberts of the time by the name of their father. *page 35, James Young, son of John; page 36, Robert Young, son of John. There was another James Young delineated in these Clerk of Court records in 1760 as James Young, tailor, that would not be the son of this John. I am estimating James and Robert's ages from this record. They likely would have been at least 18 at the time.

The following info is currently listed verbatim from my site in the Lamont/Young DNA Study on the internet at http://www.lamont-young.com.) In Deed Book 2, pg 189, 1749 the following info is listed: "Hugh Campbell to John Young, Naked Creek, part of 400 ac pat 1740 to Campbell." On Mar. 10, 1748-49, William Curry bought 200 acres of land near John Young and Thos. Waterson, on Naked Creek.

William Curry's son Robert and grandchildren were witnesses to James Young's will, an obvious relative and contemporary of John.

John's will is transcribed here by Maggie Phillips: "John Young, Sr.'s Will, transcribed as written 24 March 1780, Augusta County Will Book VI, pages 289-290, by Margaret Young Phillips, his 8th great granddaughter on 20 March 2000. "In the name of God Amen I John Young of Augusta County and Commonwealth of Virginia being in health and perfect Mind and Memory and Calling to mind the uncertainity of life and the Certainity of Death it being appointed for all Men once to die do hereby make my last Will and Testament in Manner of form following and first I recommend my soul to the God who gave and my body to the earth whence it was taken to be Buried in a Christian and decent like manner at the Discretion of my Executors hereafter named not doubting but I shall receive it again at the Resurrection and as for such wordly substance it hath pleased God to bestow upon me it is my Will and desire that it be disposed of as follows and first I allow my Just debts and funeral charges to be duly paid in convenient time after my discease and my plantation whereon I dwell I leave and bequeath that part of it whereon my son John Young dwells to him his heirs and asigns forever the other part I leave and bequeath unto my son William Young and to his heirs and assigns forever each of them holding according to a Dividing line made by themselves. His son John wrote a will in 1780 when he went off to join the Rev. War in which he names his male siblings, some nephews, and likely brother-in-laws named Robert and possibly George King and John Steffey. Unfortunately, we do not know which of John Sr.'s daughters married which.

This is the only record I've found for William Young of Cecil Co., Maryland that connects James of Naked Creek, Augusta Co., Virginia to his likely father. It can be found in Chaukley's "Chronicles of the Scotch Irish of Virginia.
