Notes:

Land Records in Land Book 26, pg. 172, in Richmond, VA. state that Andrew McCombe came to America with a grant from King George II in Augusta Co., VA. King George reigned from 1727-1760, this being the time period in which Andrew McCombe would have come to the colonies.

His will as transcribed by a descendant is as follows. "Will of Andrew McComb dated 15March 1788. Transcribed exactly as written by Margaret Elizabeth Young Phillips, his 6th great granddaughter on 15 March 2000: Andrew McComb of the parish and County of August being now under bodily affliction but perfect in mind and memory thanks to almighty God who gave it and calling to mend the uncertainty of Life and the certainity of Death it being appointed for all men one to Die and after Death the judgment I do herby make this my Last will and testament in maner and from following and first I Recommend my Soul to God who gave it and Body to the Earth from Whence it was taken to Buried in a Christian Like and Decent maner at the discereshen of my Executors hereafter named and as for what wordly goods it hath pleased God to Bestow upon me in this Life it is my will and desire it be disposed of as follows and first I Leave and Bequeath to my Beloved wife Jane the whole of the profites arising of the Plantation to gether with the Benifits of the Negro to be for her own use together with as mutch of the Stock as She thinks proper to Keep During her ____Life and after her Deceas I allow my son William McComb to get the fortune to Be for him and his heirs for Ever providing he pay to his sister Barbara Curry the sum of ten pounds in property shortly after he receives Said negro as for what moveable property She Doth not See proper to Keep to be Sold at publik auction. Andrew married Rebecca YOUNG in 1728 in Augusta, Virginia, USA. Rebecca (daughter of John YOUNG OF CLAN LAMONT OF SCOTLAND and Lady Elizabeth Anne "Annie" HOUSTON) was born in 1715 in , , , Scotland; died on 24 Mar 1780 in Ditchley, Virginia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

He is likely the oldest Young in Cecil Co., MD in 1720 when he is asked to preach and see if enough Presbyterians have moved into the region to have minister established there. The fact that he was asked to do this and has the title of Mr. indicates age and land holdings.

An attorney, Janice McAlpine, pointed out that all of the Youngs of Beverly Manor and Naked Creek cannot be the sons of John who died in 1747 as his closest next of kin is listed as his brother, James. What this suggests to me is that we descend through James instead as we have triangulations representing John Lamont Young and his wife Annie.

With new evidence and understanding from Attorney Janice McAlpine, I do not believe that this John ever came to the American colonies. Most of what has been attributed to him in the colonies actually was about his likely children. His stated son's John and James owned land in Augusta County by 1738 and appear to be the earliest Youngs in the records. Robert's family came by 1740. Hugh followed in 1740/1741 according to Hugh's son John's testimony when he was 81 in 1818.

We now know for certain that John and James of Back Creek in the Beverly Patent of Augusta Co., Virginia was not the John married to Annie Houston. It took a lawyer and descendant, Janice McAlpine to discern this. It was assumed that the early John and James C. Young on Back Creek was the John married to Annie and his brother James from Ireland. However, John died intestate (without leaving a will) in 1747. His named brother James Young was the court appointed administrator of the estate rather than the executor of a will. Multiple things are significant here. The John who died in 1747 had no descendants or heirs. We know this because his brother James was referred to as "his nearest heir" in the records. Attorney Janice McAlpine points out that by law, a brother could only be an heir if the deceased had no living descendants.

The second significant point here is since John who died in 1747 left no children then he was not John Young who married Annie Houston in Ireland and left a number of sons and daughters.

Thirdly, it means that we also do not have proof that John married to Annie has a brother James that I have seen other than the misinterpretation of the administration of John who died in 1747 in Augusta Co., Virginia.
Let this last paragraph sink in. It has far reaching effect on how we have interpreted the data up to 2010.

One more clear pattern needs to be noted about this family. The following persons interact in the land, road and court records from Beverly and the Borden Platts which suggests they are siblings: John, James C., Hugh, Robert and Nancy. Sarah, often attributed to this group of siblings, lived on Naked Creek with her husband and all interactions in her and her son Robert's family occur with Youngs in the Naked Creek area. In other words, she might not be the sibling of John Young.

Even so, DNA evidence indicates that my Sarah Young is descended from John and Annie Houston's ancestral tree. I have 9 triangulations between 5 persons who descend from John and Annie Houston Young between 5.2 and 6.6 cM's with my Mother's DNA. She was born in 1916 helping us to get these. These are on chromosome 15 from 29,000,000-31,000,000. We don't know how the Naked Creek group ties in to John and Annie Houston Young, but we know they do.

According to the Lamont-Young DNA research project, Andrew was born in 1646 in Danoon, Scotland. Andrew was born a Lamont. When his father and all of the adult male Lamont's were taken prisoner, torchured and killed, his mother escaped with 4 young sons going to Ireland. Each son took a different surname to stay safe. This Andrew's descendants YDNA does match other Lamont descendants adding substance to this history of Ireland. Since I have many DNA autosomal triangulations with descendants of this Andrew Young and Mary Adair, it supports my James Young descending from this Andrew Young.

Andrew was likely to have had many other children. Persons of the same surname and similar age to his likely son John in the Carmony Church Records in co. Antrim were: Robert, Matthew and Charles. He and his brother John (Lamont) Stitlington, farmed and were linen manufacturers on the Larne River in Antrim Co., North Ireland.

According to an attorney/genealogist, son John never came to the U.S. He also died intestate and had a brother James (closest Kin) administer his estate. This tells us that John had no children living after his death. In other words, persons in the U.S. descended from Andrew, descended from other children of Andrew Lamont and Mary Adair.

Andrew married Mary ADAIR after 1665 in , Antrim, Ulster, Northern Ireland. Mary was born in 1646 in Bally Clair, Antrim, Northern Ireland; died on 15 Feb 1750 in Antrim, Antrim, Northern Ireland (Aged 70). [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
