Jim Hetzer has a book titled Gospel Proclamation published in 1847 that was given to this A.D. Babcock by Dr E. Tiffany in 1880. He or she lists themselves as from Tupers Playns, Ohio. It gives his birthdate as Aug. 12, 1835. He is listed as of Kena or Kerra, Meigs Co., Ohio several places in this book.

He is listed as William Sr. in the bible record. He is the William whom lived in Salisbury, Meigs Co., Ohio in the 1870 census records. It verifies he was born in New York. In the 1850 census, he was living in Olive Twp, Meigs Co., Ohio and is listed again with a birthplace of New York and the profession of Blacksmith. In 1860, they were living in Orange, Meigs Co., Ohio and in 1870 in Salisbury, Meigs, Ohio. By birthplace of his children, we can theorize that when his 2nd wife died, he moved to Ohio where he remarried.

He left a will in Meigs Co., Ohio in which he bequeths property or money to his wife, his children: Amos D., Erastus, Jackson and Mary. All the others had probably died by that time.

In the probate of his will, it states he died about July 28, 1889 instead. However, his probate was being executed on Jan. 16, 1889, meaning they got the date wrong in this document and that he likely died on July 28, 1888 as is listed in the bible.

William married Samantha ALVORD on 17 Jun 1828 in , , NY, USA?. Samantha was born in 1806-1810 in , , NY, USA; died on 15 Jun 1842. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Although her name in 2nd hand sources is given as Oldridge, it is listed as Alvord in her and her husband's family bible. There are Alvords in Genesee, New York where her husband is supposedly born.

He is listed as being born in Connecticut in his son William's 1880 census record. His birth and death date are clearly written in bible as given. There is a John listed in the Ct. death and burial records that might be him. Name: John Babcock Birth Date: abt 1766 Age at Death: 68 Death Date: 1834 Death Place: Connecticut, Gender: Male FHL Film Number: 3233. The closest match I've found to the bible records in Connecticut is a John Babcock, son of Timothy and Thankful Babcock who was born on Jul 26, 1766 in Connecticut births. If this is Jim's ancestor John, then Timothy was born in 1747 and married Thankful Read of Norwich, CT in 1757. This birthdate is clearly not the same one, unless the index I read it from misinterpreted the handwriting for the birth of Timothy and Thankful's son John in the original records. Wikitree says the birthplace for the John born in 1766 was Stonington, Connecticut. This John died in 1834 which again could be a typo error. It's the only possible match for John in Connecticut records which are known to be of good quality for this period in time.
