  1. 1.  Henry DE ERDINGTON was born about 1274 (son of Henry DE ERDINGTON and Maud (Matilda) DE SOMERY); died after 1341.

    Notes:

Henry was the second son of Sir Henry de Erdington and Maud, 4th daughter of Sir Roger de Somery. His lineage goes back through noble lines. When I find this Henry with a daughter Matilda, CD-100 and F-345 will support his ancestry. It does state that he married before June 1315 Joan, d. of Sir Thomas de Wolvey of Co. Warwick. According to Hal Buckley, this 1315 date is the date that they are listed as a married couple, but their marriage took place at least 1300 or earlier from the known births of their children. (F-441-442) Henry, b. 1274, held lands in Aston Parish, Erdington, co. Warwick, Shawbury, Salop Corfe Mullen, Dorset, Barrow-on-Soar co. Leicester and Olney, Bucks. He was the second son of Henry De Erdington and became his father's heir when his older brother died young, a minor in the King's ward. "The King took his homage", and he is noted in the records as having livery of his father's lands on July 21 1295. He then was given livery of this mother's lands on July 9, 1302 after the death of her 2nd husband, Sir William De Bifeld. He is listed as age 24 years and more in 1302 when his stepfather dies. He is listed as the heir and son of Henry and Maud De Erdington in this document. He was knighted by the Prince of Wales on May 22, 1306 at Westminster. He was given the title "Knight of the Shire for co. Leicester" in 1309. He was in the military service between May 1297 and July 28, 1317. He was a member of council in May 1324. He was in Parliament on Jan 22, 1335/6 where by writ he was bestowed the title of "Lord Erdington".

Henry married Joan De Wolvey before 1801. Joan (daughter of Thomas DE WOLVEY and Alice) was born est 1278; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

His birth date likely occurred between 1226 and 1238. In 1272, he is listed of age, but not yet a knight. (E)

    Notes:

It is conjecture on my part that the William D'Aubigny, Earl of Arundel that listed as her father in "The Complete Peerage", is the William D'Aubigny that I have listed here. His wife was much young than him and their children could easily have been born in the late 1100's as required for a fit to this generation. Nichole was the 3rd daughter of William and the sister to his son Hugh. They both were coheirs of William's estate. (F-644) These lands were then divided amongst her 4 heirs on Dec 1, 1283. They included the manor of Olney, Bucks, Barrow-on-Soar, co. Leicester, and Chipping Campden, co. Gloucester.

"William d'Aubigny, 2nd Earl of Arundel (b. [1138-1150], d. 24 December 1193), also called William de Albini III,[1] was the son of William d'Aubigny, 1st Earl of Arundel and Adeliza of Louvain, widow of Henry I of England.[2]
He married Maud de St. Hilary and among their children was William d'Aubigny, 3rd Earl of Arundel. The Duke of Norfolk's Archives Assistant Librarian Sara Rodger wrote that William "did have three sons, William who succeeded him as Earl in 1196, and Alan and Geoffrey, of whom we know nothing." His daughter, Matilda d'Aubigny, married William de Warenne, 5th Earl of Surrey. In 1176/7 he was created Earl of Sussex and in 1190 he inherited the earldom of Arundel. He is buried at Wymondham Abbey, Norfolk, England.[3]"
