Notes:

This James, son of John and Elizabeth, is likely the James who married Mary McCombe. This is proven by the will of James's brother, John Jr. of Middle River who names all of the children of John and Elizabeth as his siblings and also bequeaths items to his nephew Andrew McComb, son of his sister Rebeckah.

James was a farmer and miller by trade. In 1780, he appears to have been the James Young who obtained clear title of 439 acres for 2 pounds, 5 shillings from Governor Thomas Jefferson. The land had originally belonged to Hugh Campbell and 35 acres was conveyed to James Young from John Young, Sr. who received patent for the land on July 12, 1750. It was located on Naked Creek and bordered lands of James Peters, James Bell, Edward Evans and James Dickey. He is likely the James Young who purchased 7 more acres in the head waters of Naked Creek that lay between Andrew McComb, deceased and Thomas Graham's land on Dec. 21, 1791. The land was originally warranted on July 3, 1783 according to this deed. Not being a lawyer, I do not know how to interpret this last sentence. http://lva1.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com .

He or his son James are likely the James living on Naked Creek in the Personal Property tax lists of 1800. A transcription of his will from Chalkey follows.

It should be noted that there was more than one James Young in Augusta Co., VA at the time. In the Merchant records one is listed of the Forks (1768), one of Botetourt (1771). Some of the following records from Chalkley as forwarded by Sharon Jebavey might apply to one of the others instead of this James.

Joseph Lang, father of Henry, many years ago purchased a tract of land from George Robinson, who was to take out patent in Joseph's name, but it was actually issued in name of Samuel Lang, deceased, brother of Henry, for half the tract. Samuel was of very poor intellect and quite an idiot. Joseph died and left will dated 11th September, 1757, wherein he gave a part of his land "The Welch Cabin" unto Samuel. It is theory on my part that John Young is the brother of James and Robert Young, all of Naked Creek. John appears in Naked Creek first. He interacts with James or his son-in-laws in some wills of the time. We do know that they are the ones that interacted with each other in Naked Creek instead of interacting with other Youngs in the Borden and Beverly tracts of land.

John purchased 135 acres of land in the drafts on Naked Creek on Dec. 14, 1748 according to Survey Book 1, pg. 29. (Young, John. Publication 12 July 1750., available on microfilm. Virginia State Land Office. Patents 1-42, reels 1-41, Location: Augusta County. Description: 135 acres on the drafts of Naked Creek. Source: Land Office Patents No. 30, 1750-1752, p. 226, Reel 28). This land was an original land grant from the person given the tract by George II of Great Britain, France and Ireland. It bordered on land owned by James Bell and John Rutledge. The deed said that he had to pay for it once a year for 3 years at the Feast of the Arch Angel Michael. The sale was for 15 pounds. He also had to apparently improve 3 acres of each 50 acres of land purchased within a 3-year period to be able to keep the land as his own. He purchased an additional 50 acres adjoining his land in 1751 on page 44 of that same book. He then sold 335 of these acres to James Young in 1759: Chaukley, V. 3, Page 122.--16th May, 1759. John Young and Elizabeth ( ) to James Young, \'a3 30, 2 tracts containing 335 acres on a branch of Naked Creek, 200 acres conveyed to John by Hugh Campbell, 18th May, 1749, and 135 acres patented to John, 12th July, 1750, near corner of James Bell and John Rutledge. Erwin's land. Teste: James Gambel. The James Young was probably his son James who was old enough to pay fees to the court in the following 1759 record.

Johns son's James and Robert are listed as his sons in the following Chalkley record, V.II. They were listed in the fee books by the Clerk of Court in 1759 and distinguished from other James and Roberts of the time by the name of their father. *page 35, James Young, son of John; page 36, Robert Young, son of John. There was another James Young delineated in these Clerk of Court records in 1760 as James Young, tailor, that would not be the son of this John. I am estimating James and Robert's ages from this record. They likely would have been at least 18 at the time.

In Deed Book 2, pg 189, 1749 the following info is listed: "Hugh Campbell to John Young, Naked Creek, part of 400 ac pat 1740 to Campbell." On Mar. 10, 1748-49, William Curry bought 200 acres of land near John Young and Thos. Waterson, on Naked Creek.

William Curry's son Robert and grandchildren were witnesses to James Young's will, an obvious relative and contemporary of John.

His son John wrote a will in 1780 when he went off to join the Rev. War in which he names his male siblings, some nephews, and likely brother-in-laws named Robert and possibly George King and John Steffey. Unfortunately, we do not know which of John Sr.'s daughters married which.

This is the only record I've found for William Young of Cecil Co., Maryland that connects James of Naked Creek, Augusta Co., Virginia to his likely father. It can be found in Chaukley's "Chronicles of the Scotch Irish of Virginia.

According to the Lamont-Young DNA research project, Andrew was born in 1646 in Danoon, Scotland. Andrew was born a Lamont. When his father and all of the adult male Lamont's were taken prisoner, torchured and killed, his mother escaped with 4 young sons going to Ireland. Each son took a different surname to stay safe. This Andrew's descendants YDNA does match other Lamont descendants adding substance to this history of Ireland. Since I have many DNA autosomal triangulations with descendants of this Andrew Young and Mary Adair, it supports my James Young descending from this Andrew Young.

Andrew was likely to have had many other children. Persons of the same surname and similar age to his likely son John in the Carmony Church Records in co. Antrim were: Robert, Matthew and Charles. He and his brother John (Lamont) Stitlington, farmed and were linen manufacturers on the Larne River in Antrim Co., North Ireland.

According to an attorney/genealogist, son John never came to the U.S. He also died intestate and had a brother James (closest Kin) administer his estate. This tells us that John had no children living after his death. In other words, persons in the U.S. descended from Andrew, descended from other children of Andrew Lamont and Mary Adair.

Andrew married Mary ADAIR after 1665 in , Antrim, Ulster, Northern Ireland. Mary was born in 1646 in Bally Clair, Antrim, Northern Ireland; died on 15 Feb 1750 in Antrim, Antrim, Northern Ireland (Aged 70). [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
