Waters' "Genealogical Gleanings in England", Vol. II, page 1109, we find the last will of James Clerke as follows: 'James Clerke, of East Farleigh, Kent, England, gent., 13 July, 1614, proved 1 Nov., 1614, daughter Grace Clerke. I give to Abraham Preble, my servant, five pounds, and to Anne Joyce, my maid, forty shillings, to be paid to every of them within two years after my decease. I give to every of my servants which served me without wages, five shillings apiece, in token of rememberance. Payment to be made to Margery Baker, and she to have a dwelling in my house as before. The reparations of the church, the poor of the parish, Mr Barden, minister, son Edward, wife Mary, my two sisters (not named). I give unto Griffin Roches and Jane his wife, my house and orchard lying at Court Wood gate, in the parish of Hynton, to have and to hold to them during the life of the said Jane, and after her death I give them to Weston Clerke, and to his heirs forever. I give unto Dolor Davis, my servant, my house and land lying in the parish of Marden, which is in the occupation of the Terrye, and after the death of my wife, Mary Clerke, I give unto Weston Clerke all my lands, tenements and hereditaments lying in the parish of Hynton, he paying to his brethren, to every one of them, an hundred pounds, according to my last will, for otherwise I know not how they shall be paid.' In his will he names wife, Elizabeth and daughter Mary. He passed his lands to his wife called Gobbions in County Essex and Saxelbie, co. Leicester with remainder going to his daughter. He requested that his lands in Skerlington, co. York to be sold and the proceeds to go to his wife and daughter. She makes bequests to duaghter Mary, cousin Harry Marwood and his children, daughter Angelt Tooke, son-in-law John Purevey and his sons Robert and William, cousin Elizabeth Bannister & daughters, brother Peter Osborne and her sister, who was Peter's wife. 12. | Richard WESTON was born in 1510 in Of Roxwell, Essex, ENG (son of John Of Lichfield WESTON and Cecilia NEVILL); died on 16 Jul 1572 in Skymes, Roxwell, Essex, ENG. Notes: Richard was a Justice of the Common Please for the Queen at Westminster. In his will, he requested that he be buried in the church of Writtle in Essex where his "well-beloved wife", Margaret, was already buried. He wanted a monument with their arms joined together. He was however, apparently remarried as he instructed that his daughters be brought up and educated by his wife, Elizabeth. His sone Jerome received the residue of his manors and lands and was his executor. His daughters, Wynefriede and Margaret, were under age 18, and his son Nicholas was under age 21. 14. | Anthony CAVE was born about 1517 in Chicheley, Buckingham, ENG (son of Richard CAVE and Margaret SAXBY); died on 9 Sep 1558 in Chicheley, Buckingham, ENG; was buried after 9 Sep 1558 in Chicheley, Buckingham, ENG. Notes: Anthony was a merchant of the staple of Calais. He bought Chicheley Manor from lands that Henry VIII claimed as his after dissolving the monasteries in 1545. His property had been part of the Tickford Abbey previous to his purchase. It was actually land that he had leased from that Abbey since 1528 "under the pen of Cardinal Wolsey." He was buried in the church next to his "magnificent" home and has a brass shroud as well as a plaque on the wall of the church commemorating him. He is well known and has much info available on him from the "Cave Family History Society," in Lincolnshire, England.
