1. | Francis CHATFIELD was born on 24 Feb 1617 in N. Mundham, Pagham, Sussex, ENG; was christened on 24 Feb 1617 in N. Mundham, Pagham, Sussex, ENG (son of Henry CHATFIELD and Jane UNKNOWN); died about 1647 in Guilford Twp., New Haven, CT, USA; was buried in 1647 in Chichester, Sussex, ENG. Notes: Francis emigrated to Guilford, CT with the Kent and Sussex Co. followers of Rev. Henry Whitfield. He and his brothers were among the few listed as "Mr. and Gentleman" in Guilford's founding history. When Guilford and New Haven voted to join their plantations, Francis opposed it. He was brought to court before the magistrates and deputies on Aug. 14, 1645 because of this. He died unmarried two years later and his estate went to brothers, Thomas and George Chatfield. He apparently was buried in a Cathedral back in England after his death. (C-1420, 1453) |

To my son Francis Chatfield 100 pounds, providing that he surrender his estate in those copyhold lands that he is estated in unto his brother Thomas Chatfield which if he refuse to do, I give him 12d., for his portion. To my son Norrisses children, George, Annis, and Joesph, 15 pounds to be equally divided among them at the age of twenty-one. If my son Francis die before the age of twenty-one years, reversion of his protion to my sons Thomas Chatfield and George Chatfield, equally divided. If my son Thomas die, then my lands shall go to Francis Chatfield, and if Franics died, then to George. To my younger son, George Chatfield 10 pounds at the age of twenty-one, and if he do not live so long, reversion to my sons Francis Chatfield and Thomas Chatfield equally divided. To my wife Jane the use of my lands for life, and my best bed furnished.
