  1. 1.  John V HOWARD, Duke Of Norfolk was born about 1421 (son of Sir Robert HOWARD, II and Lady Margaret MOWBRAY); died on 22 Aug 1485 in Bosworth.

    Notes:

He was named the First Duke of Norfolk on Jun. 28, 1483. Also known as Jack of Norfolk, he was elected to Parliament in 1455, knighted in 1451 and named Baron in 1470. In that same year he received the title and office of Captain-Genearl of the King's forces at sea. He and his descendants received the honorary title of Earl Mashal of England. From 1467-1474 he was "Treasurer of the Household". In 1475 he fought along side Edward IV in France. He was given the honor of being the administrator for the estates for the Duke of Norfolk and Mowbray. When Lady Anne Mowbray died in 1481 without issue, Lord Howard was the co-heir of her estate. However, Edward VI stopped him from receiving this, instead giving it to his own son who had married Lady Anne after her first husband's death. When Edward VI died shortly after in 1483, King Richard III declared the sons of Edward VI to be illegitimate and restored Lord Howard's share of the Mowbray estates to him. He also granted Sir John Howard the titles of "Duke of Norfolk, Marshal, and Earl Marshal of England. In July of 1483, he was given the position of Admiral of England, Ireland and Aquitaine, Surveyor of Array in Norfolk, Suffolk and eleven other counties, Steward of the Duchy of Lancaster and a member of the Privy Council." He was killed at Bosworth Field in 1485 in service to his king. (C-862)
