Gilbert married Isabelle DE BEAUMONT. Isabelle (daughter of Sir Robert, 1St Earl Of Leister DE BEAUMONT and Isabelle (Elizabeth) DE VERMANDOIS) was born about 1104; died after 1172. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Robert was titled "Seigner de beumont, Pont Audemer, Brionne and Vatteville in Normandy, Count de Meulan in the French Vexin and Earl of Leicester." He accompanied William the Conqueror and played a very important role at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. William rewarded him with many manors lordships in Leicestershire, Warwickshire, Gloucestershire, Northampton and Wilts. He built a castle at Leicester where he enjoyed many luxurious years. When Henry I became he, he was said to be his favorite minister and confidant. Henry bestowed upon him the title of Earl of Leicester. Weeber's genealogy says that Robert and Amice had a daughter named Margurirte, but I have been unable to substantiate this. Brian Tompsett's respected Royal Lineage site does not include Marguerite. Sir married Isabelle (Elizabeth) DE VERMANDOIS in 1096. Isabelle (daughter of Hugh "Hugo Capet" MAGNUS and Adelaide DE VERMANDOIS) was born in 1081 in Vermandois, , FRA; died on 17 Feb 1131 in St. Nicaise, Meulan, FRA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Isabel's first marriage was to Robert de Beaumont. Her full name seems to have been Elizabeth Isabella. She was the countess of Leicester. Her birth place has been listed as Vermadois, France and Valois, Bretagne, France. (C-1366, 1374)
