  1. 1.  Richard I LUNDY was born in 1654 in Axminster, East Devon District, Devon, England; was christened on 4 Dec 1644 in Chardstock, , Dorset, England (son of Sylvester LUNDY and Mary LENDON); died in 1738 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States of America.

    Notes:

Richard Lundy I immigrated from Bristol, England on a ship captained by Mr. William Browne in August of 1676 landing in Boston, England. He lived in Boston until May 19, 1682, when he sailed down the Delaware River and settled in Bucks Co., Pennsylvania As of 1688, he owned 1000 acres of land in Buckingham township "confirmed" on him by William Penn.

He married twice. His first wife, Elizabeth Bennet, died just three years after their marriage without having born Richard any children that can be verified. There is a slight chance that a John Lundy listed in the area could have been a son by this marriage.

His second wife, Jane Lyon, was a 16 year old orphan when she came over with the James Harrison and Phineas Pemberton families of Bolton, Lancaster Co., England in 1682 on the ship, SUBMISSION. This ship sailed on the 5th of the 7th month, 1682 and arrived in Chesapeake Bay, Maryland on the 21st of the 9th month, 1682. Due to a homestead law of this colony, she was given 50 acres of land which her husband later applied for on Mar. 18, 1717-1718.

Although Richard owned extensive property in Buckingham Twp., it appears that he lived in Falls Township from 1693-1701, due to the many references to him in the Falls Monthly Meeting Records during that period. The last reference to him in Quaker records reveals much. He presented a certificate of membership to the Exeter Monthly Meeting in Berks Co., PA on Nov. 24, 1737. His wife, not being mentioned, had probably passed away. He likely died within a year at Berks Co., PA as he did not witness the marriage of his grandson in 1739 in Berks Co., Pennsylvania. (C-256,C-257)

According to a cousin DNA match at ancestry known as Terri S. Hayden, Richard was born on 4 Dec 1654, Axminster, Devon, England instead. He is still listed as a son of Sylvester with this alternate birthdate.

Richard married Elizabeth BENNETT on 20 Aug 1684 in , Bucks, Pennsylvania, USA. Elizabeth died on 14 Aug 1687 in , Bucks, Pennsylvania, USA; was buried on 14 Aug 1687 in , Bucks, Pennsylvania, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Richard married Jane LYON on 24 Apr 1691 in Falls M.M., Bucks, PA, USA. Jane (daughter of Robert LYON, * and Margrett SWIFTE) was born on 11 Mar 1665 in Ormskirk, West Lancashire District, Lancashire, England; was christened on 11 Mar 1666 in Ormskirk, Cancashire, ENG; died on 24 Sep 1737 in Maiden Creek, Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States of America. 1. 2.  Sylvester LUNDY was born about 1622 in Axminster, Devonshire, ENG; died about 29 Oct 1697 in Axminster, Devonshire, ENG; was buried on 1 Nov 1697.

    Notes:

The Lundy name is of Norman origin. Many Lundy's migrated to Northern Ireland in the 1600s during the English "Plantation of Ulster." At least one known Lundy in the 1800's in England was a miner. (C-717) Sylvester Lundy, himself, was a Weaver by trade. His father was either Vinson or Richard according to research by Ross Lundy Harrison. (C-725)

There is a gap in the registers of Axminster from 1580 to 1647, precluding any hope of finding when Sylvester was christened. It appears that he and his wife temporarily moved to Chardstock, a village four miles from Axminster in the early 1640s. There was a Civil War that took place from 1642-1646 which might have prompted this move. (C-725) Sylvester was apparently doing very poorly in the year 1674, as he is given one shilling in the Axminster Parish Constables Records and is on the poor people's list. This is about the same time his son Richard I emigrated to America.

Sylvester married Mary LENDON. Mary (daughter of Thomas LINDON) was born on 23 Oct 1636 in Axminster, East Devon District, Devon, England; died in 1697. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 3.  Mary LENDON was born on 23 Oct 1636 in Axminster, East Devon District, Devon, England (daughter of Thomas LINDON); died in 1697.
