He was a farmer in Dena, (Ohio) in 1907 according to his son Raleigh. Two children were raised as siblings of Raleigh and Art that Raleigh believes weren't his father's children. They were Harry and a woman whose name I did not catch. They were the youngest in the family. She in particular was born well after 9 months from her "father's" death.

1955 Hijah, 18 years old, joined Capt. Gorsuch's Co. I, 94th Ohio Inf., August 5, 1862, enrolling for a period of 3 years. He mustered in at Camp Piqua, Ohio on Aug. 23, 1862. He was living at Franklin Twp. (Darke Co.), OH at the time. Hisr Roll says that Hijah died of disease at Murfreesboro TN., January 25, 1863. It describes him as 18 years old, 5' 5" light complexion, gray eyes and brown hair. It stated that his occupation was as a farmer and indicates he was born in Darke Co., OH. His parents were living in Miami Co., Ohio in 1850, so we're not sure if he was born in Darke or Miami Co. of Ohio. His mother, Martha is granted the 139.00 that came from Hijah's military service when her husband, John Coats died in 1864. COATS, Hijah (I1906)

1956 Hildeburg Castle on the Rhine was built by Hilderic. His name is spelled Childeric in Stevens homepage. (C-1346, F-515) KING OF FRANKS, Hilderic (I16647)

1958 Hinman gives his name as Aboot of Dunkeld Crinan. (F-599) He died in a battle with the Vikings. He is supposedly the ancestor of Princess Dianna (according to Annie Coppock Kransdorf) and President Bush. (according to Encarta Encyclo) President George W. Bush is a 29th gr. grandson of Crinan, to be exact. Crinan Crinan Abbot of Dunkeld Mac Duncan (I14551)

1959 Hinman's info differs greatly with this generation. She calls him Donald IV who died in 940. He was killed in battle. (C-2031, F-599)

1961 Hion was the 126th King according to Schmuhl. KING, Hion M (Rodl) (I16455)

1962 Hiram and his wife were Quaker ministers. Hiram was also appointed Clerk to take minutes at the Quaker meetings. COATE, Hiram (I14397)

1963 His address was listed in the U.S. Public Records Index, c2005 as 16547 Hwy 198 City: Saegertown County: Crawford State: Pennsylvania Zip Code: 16433, Phone Number: 814-763-4121 and his birthdate was listed as 1929. GIEWONT, Stanley P. (I5243)

1964 His and his siblings births (except for Ann's) are recorded after the fact in the South Somerset Quarteryly meeting records right before his cousin, Marmaduke Coate's (husband of Ann Pole) children are. In his birth and death record he ied as the son of John and Elizabeth Coate verifying that he never married. COATE, John (I168)

1965 His baptismal date's last digit was unreadable and occured on Aug. 24, 165? He and his wife Elizabeth lost 3 children in period of 6 months before she apparently died too. William remarried. I believe he is the William who was burie5 Jun 1678 in Drayton, England because he stopped having children listed in the records after 1678. His wife would have been pregnant with their last child when he died. COATE, William (I6739)

1966 His birth date and the dates of all of his children's births are noted in the Center Monthly Meeting records in Hinshaw which was located in Clinton Co., Ohio.

This could be the John Coat who was disowned by the Quaker Church on 4/26/1800 in the Bush River Monthly Meeting for an unknown reason. (C-100) However, by Aug. 25, 1804, they are listed in Quaker records as removing to Miami MM, OH from Newberry MM. In the 1820 census he lives within 2 farms of his brother William and then James. He has 3 sons and 2 daughters under age 10. He and his wife are between the age of 26 and 45. He is listed as living near his brother James and William in the 1827 Newton Twp., Miami Co., OH tax lists. He is the John Coats living in Newton Twp., Miami Co., Ohio in the 1830 census within 2 doors of his older brother James on page 75. He and his wife Mary sold land to Samuel Teague in Miami Co., on Aug. 27, 1833 and to William Jay on June 28, 1834 in county deed records. He is listed in the Clinton Co. Center Monthly Meeting records on 12/17/1834 when he, his 2nd wife and all their children were received on certificate from Union Monthly Meeting in Miami Co., Ohio dated 11/12/1834. He also is stated as of Greene Co., Ohio when some of his children marry in the 1830s.

Info on his death date comes from Krell's Collection in Philadelphia where the place was listed as Miami Co., Ohio. This place seems unlikely unless we find evidence that he moved back to Miami Co., Ohio. It is entirely possible that he was simply buried there but died in Clinton or Green Co., Ohio instead. He signed his name to his daughters Rebecca's marriage in 1837, but didn't to his son, Hiram's marriage in 1838. He is likely the John Coates who was proposed to be the clerk, or keeper of the Minutes at the New Hope MM in Greene Co., Ohio. He apparently didn't accept this because his signature is never where the clerk's signature is in the minutes. His son, Hiram, however, did take that position. (C-1017, E)
COATE, John (I11927)

1967 His birth date does not fit the 1820 census records for his family. He was between 16 and 26 at the time. (CL-139) TOBIN, John - G-M201 (I370)

1968 His birth date in some sources is given as 1762 in some sources but as 1754 on his gravestone. Since he is listed as having children starting in 1775, the gravestone could be the accurate date. (C-458, p. 1918, C-671, 1431) In 1798, he,r - David Hoover, Martin Davenport and Benjamin Iddings went on a land hunting expedition from North Carolina to evaluate Miami Valley in Ohio as a new territory for their families to live in. John Jr. remained in Miami Co. while the others returned to NC to bring their families. He was literally the first settler in what became known as West Branch, Miami Co., Ohio. On Sep. 3, 1802 he bought land in SEction 28, Township 8, Range 4 which is what is now known as Newton Twp. His brothers Jacob and David, and all his seven sisters and their husbands proceeded to move to the Stillwater River Valley on adjoining properties in Miami and Montgomery counties in Ohio on their return trip in 1801. By 1801, John had built a flour mill (grist mill) known as Cedar Branch Mill that stood until a 1955 fire occurred in Miami Co., Ohio. The quality of the flour from his mill was listed as "superfine". He also ran a gunsmith shop. (C-2215c, 2537) John was not a member of the Quaker church, although his wife was. After his wife died in 1813, several of his grandchildren lived with him at his home by his Grist Mill. "He was a little under medium in size, fair skinned and blue eyes, quiet and unobtrusive and loved hunting. He attended religious meetings occasionally but never made an open profession." (Mote, "A Walk in a Country Churchyard.) This John was taxed in Miami Co., Ohio in 1810 and 1816. He was in the deed records for Union Twp., Miami Co., Ohio in 1813, 1817, 1824, 1826, 1827,1828, 1830, 1831, and 1832. He is listed in the Census of 1827 for Union Twp., Miami Co., Ohio. He had his will probated in Miami Co., Ohio 1832. Henry Hoover, his wife's nephew, was one of his executors. Henry was the gr.gr. uncle of President Hoover. (C-1025, 2172) John's stone is no longer visible in the West Milton Cemetery, but there is at least one picture of it when it was still barely visible taken by a descendant, Lois Mast. MAST, John Jr. (I11838)

1969 His birth date is also given as 1060. He was crowned King of England in 1087 and called King Rufus. He was ruthless and highly disliked. He was shot with an arrow while hunting by Sir Walter Tyrol. The Church refused to bury him, suchheir animosity. There is a stone, called the Rufus Stone to mark the spot where he died and a ballad about Tyrol killing King Rufus. Some historians believe that it was a planned murder designed by his brother Henry and Tyrol to gain power and rid the country of a tyrant. KING OF ENGLAND, William II (I486)

1970 His birth date is also recorded in Bush River MM, South Carolina records as 1771. (C-556) He is probably the Thomas Coppock who was in the 1800 Newberry Co. Census records at age 26-45 with wife between 16-26. They had two daughters une ten. In his will written in 1826, he named wife, Elizabeth, son Joseph, d. Sarah and all his other daughters. His executor was Samuel Coate. His witnesses were Zadock Reagen, Jesse Coppock, and Jesse Jones. (C-931, 2247E) COPPOCK, Thomas (I12021)

1971 His birth date is listed differently in various sources. Weiss gives it as 689 and Encylcopedia Britanica gives it as 688. He was the Mayor of the Palace in Austrasia. In 732, he won the battle over the Saracens at Poitiers. Though hr reigned himself, he helped bring his sons Carloman and Pepin the Short into ruling as joint Kings of France. (C-1440, E)

MARTEL, Karl (Charles) (I12653)

1972 His birth date likely occurred between 1226 and 1238. In 1272, he is listed of age, but not yet a knight. (E) DE ERDINGTON, Henry (I8395)

1973 His birth date, Anno Mundi 1, is estimated about 5500 B.C., with the A.M. dating system being used for all dates before BC dates are recorded. His death date is estimated to be between 4004 and 3074 B.C. (C-1795) It states in the Bibt he lived 930 years. (G. 2:7 and 2:19) Adam (I14113)

1974 His birth date, death date, and therefore even if he is an actual person and son of Richard and Lady Barbary Martin are not in the FreeReg records. The marriage of Richard and Lady Barbary is in them. MARTIN, John Not Verified with Actual Records (I7474)

1975 His birth is recorded in Somerset Quarterly Meeting Records for the Quaker church in England as from the "Middle Divison". The following deed index forwarded from my Uncle Richard at a stretch might apply to this Marmaduke Coate, "KEINTOEVILLE 56/16/ 1/1745 1] Marmaduke Coate of Hambridge, Curry Rivel, yeoman 2] Edward Watts of Taunton, gent Mortgage of a messuage and 5a, Middle close (2a), close at Hansthorn (3.5a), close at Townsend (1a), close at Lanehays (1a), 2a in Cranpits mead, 3a in North mead, 43.5a in West field, 1/2a in Moor plot, 31a in east field, 8a in Cranpitts, 8a on west of Coombe and 2a on east of Coombe and 1/2a in Common plot, Keinton Mandeville. (1 doc.)" http://www.somerset.gov.uk/archives/lists/ddlists/ddfs.txt

He is the only Marmaduke I have in my database that might be the one of the UK, Poll Books and Electoral Registers, 1538-1893, for the year 1733 of Backland, Somerset, England.
COATE, Marmaduke (I912)

1976 His birth name was Cecil Lawrence Westerburg. He supposedly had it legally changed to Barney West.

He is well known for his Tiki carvings on the net. This is an example of one of his follower's sites. https://susansternau.com/cool-carvings/?v=7516fd43adaa
WEST, Barney (I11980)

1977 His birth place is also listed as Saltney, Flintshire, Wales in some second hand sources. In the World Family Tree at ancestry.com, Don Coffin gives his death date as 20 Dec. 1718 in Springfield, Delaware Co., Pennsylvania Jonathand in Philadelphia on a Quaker certificate dated Oct. 27, 1708 to marry Jane Owen. He was received from Chester MM, PA on 28th 11 mo. 1708. Jonathan had daughters, Sarah, Rachel and Hannah , born in what is now Delaware Co., PA before his death. Hannah was the youngest, born in 1716. (C-720, 1235, 2150) COPPOCK, Jacob Jonathan (I15735)

1978 His birth year was not known in the bible. It stated his month and day of birth as Oct. 25 and then 180? after that. I've found a Jeremiah Babcock who lived in Genesee, New York in the 1840 census who was between age 20 and 30 in the census.

Then I also found a Jeremiah in New York:

BABCOCK, Jeremiah (I454)

1979 His birthdate appears to be 1851 in the 1869 census, but that is likely off as often has happened in these census records. DUDIK, Yosif (I2516)

1980 His birthdate is listed as 1725 in many second hand trees. He purchased 800 acres of land in Lunenburg Co., Virginia in 1744 or 1749 compared to our James of the area who purchased 619 acres in 1749. One had to be 21 years of age to purchase land in colonial Virginia. That means he was likely born before 1725. This land record needs to be located again. It's been taken off the Internet.

Adam is believed to be the cousin or possibly brother of our James. Our James died in 1795 in Guilford Co., NC and Adam's son James lived in Prince Edward Co, Virginia after his father passed where he was named in his 1796 will. "Adam Cahoon (Calhoon), July 25, 1749, 800 acres on the branches of the middle and Horse pen forks of Cub Creek adjoining Joeph Morton. https://wc.rootsweb. ancestry.com

The following is from a Family Member Tree on Ancestry. "Lunenburg Co. VA Deeds (taken from TLC deed abstracts and land patents) Adam received grant of 800 acres 25 July 1749 which was located on branches of Middle and Horse Pen Creeks, forks of Cub Creek in Charlotte Co. VA. Land originally Brunswick Co. " Land was adjoining Joseph Morton. Deed Book 3, pg. 134 - Dec 5, 1752 Adam Cohoon of Amelia Co. to James Luckey of Pennsylvania, for 22 pd, 400 acres on Cubb Cr. containing 400 acres and bounded by Duggins, Richardson, Thomas, Cohoon's patent line. Recorded Dec 5 1752 after Violet relinquished right of dower. Deed Book 3, pg 136 - Dec 5, 1752 Adam Cohoon of Amelia Co. to Thomas Duggins of same for 20 pds, 400 acres on Cub Cr bounded by Thomas, patent line of said Cohoon, Richardson, a new division line. Violet relinquished right of dower.

Prince Edward Co. Deeds Deed Book 1, page 8 May 11, 1754 from George Davis of P to Adam Calhoon of P for 25 pds, land on southeast branches of Buffalo River, 200 acres bounded by Thaxton, Anderson, Richey. Wit: George Walton; J. Le Neve; Charles Anderson. Violet, wife of said George, relinquished her right of dower to conveyed land. Wills: Page 151, Jan 1, 1770. Account of sale of estate of John Ritchie (husband of Jane Davis - m. 1756 in Prince Edward Co - George Davis signed as witness) Among purchasers were James Carter, JEAN RITCHIE, Samuel Baker, THOMAS CALDWELL, Daniel Carnes, John Thompson, Samuel Ritchie, William Prince, Elizabeth Baker, Alexander Ritchie, John Crockett, Robert Hannah, Charles Golihor, HUGH McLROY, Thomas Rice, John Simpson, James Ritchie, Charles Ritchie, Hugh Ritchie, John Caldwell, ADAM CALHOON (Calhoon's purchase listed as cash received for: Col Carrington, Phill Holcomb, James Cole, James Ritchie, James Carter). These are all neighbors and most of the names are Scot Irish. . . Was Jane/Jean Davis who married John Ritchie another daughter of George/Violet Davis? She moved with children to KY in 1790's and records show there was unmarried daughter named Violet.

From Thackston researcher (Lisa Cook ssticks@csra.net) who is descendant of Benjamin Thackston, "On one occasion in 1791, Adam Calhoon stated his opinion of Benjamin's business acument, declaring to Benjamin: 'You (the Plaintiff meaning) are a rogue, and keep Rogues books and I can prove it. (The defendant) meaning the books of accounts kept by the plaintiff for work he has done as a silver smith or gold smith" Benjamin responded by filing suit for defamation. After a trial, the jury ruled in favor of Benjamin and awarded him damages in the amount of 3 pounds. Calhoon appealed arguing that even if he had said the words, they were not actionable (defamatory) as a matter of law. The district court agreed and dismissed the case. (Records at Large District Court 1789-1792, p. 160)" This quote from the research of Kara Porter of SLC and sent to Lisa Cook, and forwarded on.

He had one daughter who was married named Vily McElroy with children. He lists 6 children.

CALHOON, Adam (Left a will) (E-BY165188 predicted) (I10278)

1981 His birthdate was listed at 1857 in the 1869 census and off if estimate by just a few months. He was living with his Half Uncle Janos. DUDIK, Mihail House 27 & 38 (I2536)

1982 His birthplace is likely Trysull, Staffordshire, England which is 19 miles from where he and his wife Elizabeth had son James. BARNSLEY, Thomas (I11339)

1983 His burial date is NOT the Mar. 5th date as is given for him in 2nd hand sources. That is for a female Joan Thorpe and does not apply to him in 1st hand records. DE THORPE, John (I11395)

1984 His cemetery stone is very difficult to read from a picture I took of it, but might be clearer with a rubbing to get his exact dates. He is listed as Benjamin B. in a letter forwarded by Steve Pearson. His stone looks like Benjamin R.,t could be a worn down B. PEARSON, Benjamin R. (I6374)

1985 His cemetery stone that now stands in West Milton Cemetery was put in by his son John, and it replaced an earlier simpler stone. He was a sober, thoughtful, steady man according to Mote's 1880 recollections. He lived on the state road oe east of the cemetery. He was a regular attender of West Branch Monthly Meetings. Like many of the pioneers, his fairly early death was brought on by excessive labor of the pioneer days. FOUTS, Henry (I15818)

1986 His certificate of removal to the Hopewell MM, Frederick Co, VA was dated Mar. 2, 1741. His children seem to have spelled their name Hollandsworth. (C-956, 1377) HOLLINGSWORTH, Joseph (I15456)

1987 His children's names were Valentine, Elizabeth and Sarah, to who he gave small amounts to in his will. He or his son is in the 1755 Tax lists of Orange Co., North Carolina. (C-956) HOLLINGSWORTH, Valentine Jr. (I13104)

1988 His christening date is recorded in the Kingsbury Episcopi Monthly Meeting Quaker Records and the Church of England records. COATE, Marmaduke (I518)

1989 His christening is listed in Curry Rivel and Muchelney Parish records. COATT, William (I2781)

1990 His daughter Hannah supposedly was born in the Americas which means he would have have to have lived there and we have no records confirming that. HALL, William * (I15054)

1991 His daughter Maude is the ancestor of Queen Elizabeth II. FITZHUGH, Sir William (I9018)

1992 His daughter's birth is transferred from the monthly meeting records from the Kingsbury Episcopi M.M. to the Southern Division of the Somerset Quarterly Meeting and recorded right in the middle of the listing for John and Elizabeth's (Humphrie) Coate's children's birth records again supporting Elizabeth's Coate's maiden name as Humphries. As a Quaker, he would have been at least 18 when he married so he was born before 1651. His christening took place in the church of England. His possible sister, his daughter or his wife died in 1689 with her death being recorded in Quaker records. He likely died at the young age of 28 in 1678 in Kingsbury Episcopi. All other records on this page were for children and it listed their father's. He was not listed as the son of anyone. It appears he was buried in "Wollen" and the church was informed of his burial. HUMPRHEYS, James (I6727)

1993 His death date in Hinshaw is in March, but in transcribed cemetery records his death date is the same day but in August of 1828 instead. Which is correct is not known. Robert Pemberton and wife, Unice were included in a deed of salel of Marmaduke's children and some of Marmaduke's grandchildren. Robert was a grandchild of Marmaduke through his mother, Esther, who was deceased. PEMBERTON, Robert (I14241)

1994 His death date in our current calender is est. at 3769 and 2864 B.C. According to the Bible, he lived to be 905 years. (G 4:26, 5:11) (C-1795) EnoshEnos (I14275)

1995 His death date is estimated at between 2948 and 1998 BC. Noah means "walked with God, just, perfect, upright". He lived to age 600 and was the Noah in the Bible that built the arch. (G 5:29, 6:9) (C-1795) NoahNoe (I14295)

1996 His death date is given ast 388. If that is true, many of the estimated dates are incorrect in this line and his birth date would be much later. His title is Magnus Maximus. (C-788) AP NN, Macsen Wledig (I13533)

1997 His death is supposedly listed as abt. 486 in Gardner's book. However, his father died in 450, and was born abt. 395 and his brother was born about 415, so his birth date or his father is listed incorrectly. (C-1346) DE MOSELLE, Adelbert Alberic (I16470)
