2151 I have used the birth date for Charity from her biography, CHARITY WRIGHT COOK, A LIBERATED WOMEN. Hinshaw gives the birth date of 11-13-1742, a day after her sister Margarets. This has been decided to be in error by her biographer. Shesowned by the Cane Creek MM, NC on 1761,2,7 for engaging in carnal behavior. She was reinstated into the Quaker church as an adult (after the boy that had accused her starting accusing many women and was basically caught lying). She became a well-loved Quaker minister who traveled much of each year in the colonies and in Europe during the Revolutions in both, to serve the Quakers. She seemed to stay home long enough to have each child, and then travel on while her husband cared for the family. She apparently had cousins who were Rothchilds in England, whom she probably visited while in Europe. Many incidents of her life are recalled in her biography. One from a family reunion provided by descendant, Bob Henry, tells of a crossing of Kaben Creek. The water apparently drowned two horses. Isaac saved himself by riding a "chunk of wood" while Charity made it across by swimming. There is discrepancy in her death date. CD-102 differs in her death date, stating it was 13 Nov. 1820 and occurred in Clinton Co., Ohio (C-517) I have again chosen the well researched biography's death date for her. WRIGHT, Charity Minister (I13122)

2152 I suspect she was married to a King or a Stiffey as these are names that her brother John mentioned in his will when he died without issue and he named some of his brothers and his sister's children. According to Jebavy, she or her s, Margaret or Isabel married a Burgess. YOUNG, Sarah (last in father's will) (I157)

2153 I suspect she was married to a King or a Stiffey as these are names that her brother John mentioned in his will when he died without issue and he named some of his brothers and his sister's children. The Kings and Stiffney's are not explas to relationship. According to Jebavy, she or her sister, Margaret or Sarah married a Burgess. YOUNG, Isabel (5th in father's will) (I101)

2154 I suspect that David J.'s middle name was Johnston as there is a Johnston Coate in the 1835 census for Newton Twp., Miami Co., OH living near Jesse and several of his sons. In otherwords, I suspect David went by the name of Johnston as an. COATE, David J. (I529)

2155 I suspect that Sarah had 4 children by the time her grandfather died in 1818 that are listed in a court case involving the settlement of Henry Pitts estate. COATE, Sarah "Sally" (I14413)

2156 I suspect that she is one of the following Pauline Rutkowski in the U.S. Public Records Index with her possible son, James: "Pauline A Rutkowski, Birth Date: 1 May 1921 Street Address: 3207 Buffalo Rd. City: Erie, County: Erie, State: Pennia Zip Code: 16510, Phone Number: 814-899-3128." OR Name: Pauline D Rutkowski Birth Date: 13 March 1921 (Historical Events)Death Date: 12 February 2006 (Historical Events)Issuing State: Illinois Residence at Death: Darien, Du Page, Illinois 60561SSN: 323-14-0480 In 1939, she was living on her own at 230 West 9th St. in Erie, Erie Co, PA according to that city's directory. GIEWONT, Pauline (I9686)

2157 I suspect that this unknown son could be the Joseph Harb who lived in Mercer Co., Ohio in 1880. He was born about 1834 in Ohio. His father was born in Pennsylvania and his mother in Maryland. (This should have been Kentucky if it was at match with otherr children's reposnses.) His wife's name was Lena and his children's names were Franklin, Mary, William, Andrew, Joseph, and Margaret. His wife's name and children named Franklin, William, and Andrew were repeated in the rest of this family living in Miami Co., Ohio. My family in Miami Co., Ohio also had 2 sons named William and George who lived for a while in Mercer County in the 1850's as young men. HARB, Unknown (I75)

2158 I theorize that this young man was the son of Francis Culpepper that emigrated to Barbados because his family fell out of favor when King Charles was dethroned. Many landed gentry, like his father probably was from where this Francis was buried, lost their fortunes and titles by the incoming King. Our branch of this tree moved to Barbados.

They have a different theory about him in Freereg.org.

When checking for records of Francis Culpepper in England, there is only one, and he could by timing is the possible son of this Francis as he was born in 1652 according to Wikitree. This is all complete theory at this point in time. Note that he was buried in Westminster indicating stature. (Freereg.org.uk)

Burial person forename Francis
Burial person surname CULPEPPER

Notes One of the King's Scholars [Cloisters]. Footnote: His name does not occur in any of the records of Westminster School, but appears on one of the tablets in the dormitory among those of the Captains of Elections, at the probable date of 1662. See the burial (probably of his sister) 5 Nov 1664. They were perhaps children of Thomas, second Lord Colepeper, Gent of the Privy Chamber to K. Charles II., by his wife Margaret, dau and coheir of Seigneur Jean de Hesse, whom he had married in Germany."
CULPEPPER, Francis (I5451)

2159 I will be using DNA to prove or disprove Elisabeth's surname as there are many reasons to believe it is incorrect.

Some lineages give Elizabeth's surname as Layton. There is no proof as yet for this. The surname might have come from a guess because William Jay had a son named Layton. An Indiana branch of the family believed her surname was Natherson. However, if it's correct that William's 2nd wife was Mary Cochran, Layton was not the son of Elizabeth and that further dispells the myth that Elizabeth's surname was Layton. (C-685, 949, 2109)

As for Natherson, that also is a misrepresentation according to the Jay Family Association: "Many family history enthusiasts reference the Natherson surname when making postings discussing the family of William Jay Jr. and his first wife Elizabeth. They state that Elizabeth's maiden surname was Natherson. There have even been rumors of a "Natherson Bible". After much research the Board of the Jay Family Association has concluded this is likely a dubious reference for the following reasons:1. The Natherson surname does not exist on any US census records prior to 1870. Those appearing in that census list Prussia as a family birth origin.2. The Natherson surname does not exist and is not present in any Orange, Frederick or Fairfax Co. VA records of any kind. This was the Jay family residence from roughly 1734-1751.3. The Natherson surname does not exist and is not present in any Orange, Caswell or Person Co. NC records of any kind. This was the Jay family residence from roughly 1751-1774.4. The Natherson surname does not exist or is not present in any Newberry, Edgefield or Abbeville SC records of any kind. This was the Jay family residence from roughly 1774-1818.5. The Natherson surname does not exist on any colonial records indexed on Ancestry.com.6. ALL other "allied" family surnames connected to the Jay family. Pugh, Wright, Elleman, Anderson, Coppock, Coate, Satterfield, Morrow, Reagin, Patty, Mills, etc proliferate the deed, court, marriage, probate, Quaker and other records in ALL of the above locations. There is an Anderson Family Bible in existence which has been transcribed and notarized. A transcription is in the possession of the Jay Family Association. Perhaps the Natherson surname was a reader's corruption of the Anderson or some other surname and the confusion began at that point. However, until visual documentary evidence of the "Natherson" surname is presented, the Jay Family Association does not accept it as connected to the Jay family and do not believe the Natherson surname existed in the US prior to 1860. LNU, Elizabeth (I12078)

2160 I would guess from the naming pattern for Adam's son Samuel, I suspect that Samuel's mother's name was likely Isabel. Adam was a lawyer in Ulster, Ireland. (CL-519) He is not to be confused with another Adam of similar peerage who speot of time in Scotland as an adult. FERGUSON, Adam B. (I8450)

2161 I'm assuming that I have him connected to the correct, John the tanner, as his father and had probably died by 1665 when his father wrote his will. This John could possibly be the father to our Aaron Coppock by time and place. Howevee take Holland's 1838 letter into account, it's John the Tanner who is the father of our Aaron instead. Margaret Holland's letter states: "The Coppocks of Mobberley & Tarvin, There appears to have been two distinct branches of the Northenden family living at Mobberley. One branch, probably cousins of John & Margaret Dean in 1634, and they had several children baptized at Mobberley, including Bryan, the eldest, 1645 (probably called after a kinsman of Etchells), Jonathan, Mary, Aaron, & Elizabeth. " Here is how I interpret this part of her letter: One branch of the Northenden Coppock family living at Mobberley were probably cousins to John and Margaret Dean who married in 1634. John and Margaret Dean had several children baptized at Mobberley, including Bryan, the eldest, 1645 (probably named after the relative named Bryan who was a kinsman of the Etchells), Jonathan, Mary, Aaron and Elizabeth. It matches it's entirety John the Tanner and Margaret Dean's family with the family of John the Tanner and Margaret Dean. Furthermore, her letter stated: "John Coppock of Mobberley, Tanner, was buried there in 1666, and his will is at Chester. His father was named John. Bryan Coppock, his heir (who was baptized in 1645) probably found an impoverished business, & went to live near Tarvin. He died there in 1722, and was buried in Mobberley. He had issue Joseph, who may have been the same as that mentioned in the Register as of "Maud's House"-- very likely the present "Mode Cottage"-- about 1800, and the names of several children appear on the register... COPPOCK, John (I1717)

2162 I'm estimating that he is at least the age of his wife. His 1st name was not given in the records as he was deceased. They had lived in household 55 with Janos Bogdan in Neviczke. BOGDAN, Unknown (I9841)

2163 I'm not sure of the spelling of her name. It was very hard to read in the 1869 census for Nevicke. It could be Luriana instead or a spelling thereof.

I'm not sure of the spelling of her name. It was very hard to read in the 1869 census for Nevicke.
KOLERAS, Zuraina (I10596)

2164 I'm not sure the Augusta Co., VA territory was open by 1712 when he is said to have been born there. LONG, Genette (I17260)

2165 I've come across two death dates for Gwladys, 1240 and 1251. (C-486) FERCH LLEWELYN, Gwladys "Ddu" (I12308)

2166 I've corresponded with Judy VeZain. She has a Lang Branch that goes back to Beerfelden, Hessen into the same generation as this one. Her ggggrandfather was Johann Oswald Lang married to Maria Chaterina Beisel. He had a son George Bernharg in 1808. (F-476) LANG, Johanne Philipp (I16218)

2167 I've estimated his age at after the age of 18 for his first child from the christening records of his children. COUNSELL, John (I10124)

2168 I've found one DNA match for a descedant of this James and many for descendants of his siblings. He is related to my Mom via DNA but has the least matching amounts with my mother of any of them indicating we do not descend through this J

CALHOUN, James (I3070)

2169 I've listed all of his supposed children via Orval Calhoun's "800 Years of Colquhouns." This source has many theories with a few facts to support some of his extensive collected 2nd hand trees from Calhoun descendants.</line><line /><line>My mother triangulates with descendants of his son William twice making it possible that our James is the son of this Andrew. However, by far my many matches with Hugh descendants at double the amount of cM's plus triangulations has finally solved the problem of our James parentage as Hugh and Agnes Calhoun. COLHOUN, Andrew E-FT350465 - FGC2323 - E-FTD54201 (I10333)

2170 I've placed him with this family as theory. It is correct by timing and place. He would have named his son William after his father. COATES, Henry (I10060)

2171 I've seen her theorized surname as Whitman. Elizabeth (I10486)

2172 I've seen James Reeder's birth date listed the exact same day in 1778 and 1788. I believe the 1778 one is much more likely to be correct as in the 1850 census, he is living with his wife, Mary, in Newberry Co., SC at age 70, a farmer.s listed at age 65. James is likely the James Reeder who is mentioned in the administration of John Cole, Sr.'s will on Jan 2, 1809. (C-2274) James Reeder was one of the persons making purchases at William Griffin's estate sale in 1826 in Newberry. Other purchasers included Samuel Coate and a (James?) Wilson, possible brother-in-law. Samuel (Father-in-law of this James Reeder) died in 1807, so this Samuel is likely to be the younger one in the area who joined the Bush River Baptist Church in the 1820's and was dismissed from it in 1827. It is not known how the two Samuel's connect, but it is possible the younger one is the son who appears in the 1800 census records for Samuel (Sr.). REEDER, James (I14949)

2173 If Charlotte had a daughter named Esther, she is highly likely to be alive in 1880, living with her son-in-law Riley Deihl and his wife, Esther in White River, Randolph Co., IN. She is listed as Charlotta Hiatt. The only disparaging fachat her parents are listed as being born in Indiana. This could easily be because the information was given by a grandchild or greatgrandchild who simply didn't know. Everything else is a good match and I believe that this is Charlotte Coats.

Charlotte, her husband, theirs sons and daughters with spouses and children totalled 26 at the 1859 reunion in Randolph Co., IN. Two were absent and three were deceased at the time.
COATS, Charlotte (I5278)

2174 If he is the Alexander Coharan who wrote the following will, then he did not die in 1731.

Will of Alexander Coharan/Cohaun, Orange Co., NC 28 Oct 1775 pg. 199 which shows up on pg 106 in the will book that starts with an index.
Wife Easter
Son John
Son Jaems Coharan b. aft. 1751 (not ours)
Alexander Coharan
Samuel Coharan
Wife is with child.

There are other families that claim him as theirs. His son James was not our James in other NC records according to Candee Varvil.

CALHOUN, Alexander (I2887)

2175 If he is the Homer who was in World War I, then his birthdate is from that record and he was married when he enlisted. His wife was not named. SAMPSON, Homer (I314)

2176 If he is the Ralph Sampson who was drafted into World War II, his closest kin was listed as Emma Sampson. It is likely this is his wife. He also enlisted in World War I. Emma was again nearest kin. He was listed as short, of medium build with light hair and blue eyes. SAMPSON, Ralph (I346)

2177 If he is the son of George and Gracey Snead Coates, then he is likely to have 2 wives and other children. If so, he did not name the children of his first wife in his will below. Since his daughter Sarah was not born till 8 years after hried, it's likely he had other children by his second wife that died young.

This looks to be his will.

2178 If he is the Thomas Thorpe of Barton on Humber, Lincolnshire, England, it would explain why he did not move with his father to Kent Co., Maryland in 1680. In colonial days according to Scholastic, children were treated as adults by age 14. Males in Virginia were able to own land and or be taxed at age 16.

I have 3 cousins on MyHeritage that descend from this Thomas whom triangulate between me and many other Tharp/Thorpe descendants.
THORPE, Thomas (I11334)

2179 If his death date is correct, his birth estimate as well as his son's is probably to early. DUC DE BAVARIA, Theodo II (I13305)

2180 If I have her placed correctly, she married a non Quaker. TAYLOR, Elizabeth (I10100)

2181 If I have him sorted correctly, he and his wife passed as white in the census records. CONLEY, William 'Bill' (I1703)

2182 If I have their descendants traced correctly, Sir Robert and his wife, Amice, are common ancestors of both of my parents. My dad descends from their son Robert and my mom descends from their daughter Hawise making my parents distant cousi

2183 If Jonathan had children, none of them have yet been found. (C-2272) YARWOOD, Jonathan (I8461)

2184 If Karen Stone is correct, it was Samuel Kendall that was married to Sarah Coates. "Sam Kendall was the only one listed in the 1810 census in Newberry district. He had 206 acres on the Patterson creek area which was surveyed by Marmaduke in 1816. The will was proved Sept 9, 1937 and recorded July 23 1839".

Samuel Kendall immigrated to US through Charleston and settled in the Newberry district. His naturalization papers dated 1811 stated he was 30 years old and had been in this country about 5 years. At the time of his naturalization, he and Sarah had 2 small daughters. Sarah Isabella was about 2 years and Elizabeth was five months. Sarah was born about 1775 in Newberry District South Carolina. They moved to Dallas Co. Alabama before 1820 as they are listed there in the 1820 Census. Their other children were: Catherine Kendall born abt. 1812, Dallas Co. Al.; Amelia Kendall b. abt. 1815, Dallas Co; Eliza Jane Kendall b. abt 1818; Dallas Co. Al, John D. Benjamin Kendall b.June 21 1821, Dallas Co. Al; and Thomas Milton Kendall b. 1826,Dallas Co Al.
KENDALL, Samuel (I8037)

2185 If Peter is the son of this Richard, he was born over 200 miles away from where his father was born in Wiltshire. Both places are near the ocean.

NORRIS, Peter (I17677)

2186 If Robert was born in 1765, he was not likely born in Lunenburg, VA as his parents had sold 400 acres of land in Lunenburg in 1764. His parents next show up in Rowan Co., NC records before finally settling in Guilford, NC. Robert was in the 1790 census for Guilford Co., NC. He had a son under age 16, he was over age 16 and there were 3 females in his household. He was living within 2 households of the James Calhoun with 3 males over age 16 and 2 females. This is probably his father by their ages. Robert Calhoun bought 100 acres of land from Andrew Mitchell on Dec 9, 1796. He sold 100 acres to John Smoot on Sept 2, 1811. They moved to Gallia County, OH and were in the Racoon township tax roles beginning in 1819. Wm Calhoun son of A and M d April 4, 1838 age 14 Greenlaw, Chilicothe First Presb. Gallia, Oh Mrs Eve Calhoon and Allison Hearn Nov 7 1852 and John Calhoun and Eliz Stewart jul 23, 1868.? (Candee Varvill) He and his wife are the ancestors of Candee Varvill.

CALHOON, Robert Sr. BY165188 (I13497)

2187 If she and William had a daughter named "Sallie" married to a Solomon Phenis, then Charlotte was living with this daughter at age 74 in Madison, Greenwood, Kansas in the 1870 census. WRIGHT, Charlotte (I14848)

2188 If she is an actual person, I have seen no proof. She is NOT the daughter to Barriter Thomas Hatch according to his will dated Dec. 31, 1530 and executed in 1534. HATCH, Elynnor (I15375)

2189 If she is the daughter of Marmaduke and Phillipe, she is not listed in her father's will. COATE, Elinour (I2790)

2190 If she married, she did not marry until after her father's estate settlement in 1823. COATE, Dorothy (I1268)

2191 If she married, she married after 1823 when her father's estate was disbursed. COATE, Margaret (I1065)

2192 If the birth date for her children are correct, it is likely that Anne's mother's name is Triphena as her first daughter received this name. Their second daughter was named after her husband's mother, and their first son was named after beir fathers. (E)

In some LDS accounts, she was married twice, first to Raphe Mallory in 1577 and second to John Mallory in 1592 in Berwick Castle, Northumberland, England. She is listed as the daughter of William Eure and Margaret Dymock in these cases. (E)
EURE, Anne (I15064)

2193 If these are the correct parents for Sam Shorts, son Sam's wife thought he was born in Virginia, but this Sam's wife thought he was born in Alabama in the 1900 census. They also had a daughter Minnie and son Thomas. SHORTS, Sam (I533)

2194 If this is the correct father for Joseph Stevens, he lived about miles from where Joseph had his children. Richard and family lived on Loompit Hill. Both Loompit Hill, Kent, England and Lewisham, Middlesex, England are now a part of London, England.

Richard appears to have married Mary Duck in a church that was only one mile from where their children were born.

He and his wife lived only six miles from where his possible parents, Richard and Ann, lived in Woolwich, Kent, England. The naming patterns of his children, the location and timing all fit to suggest this is how this family progresses back in time. DNA should eventually prove it one way or the other.

STEVENS, Richard * (I18333)

2195 If this Martha was married to John Meade, she was a widower at the time. Her brother, William Glenn, swore she was of age and was the daughter of George Glenn. (CL-186) Her father did not witness nor was he the bondsman for the marriagely indicating some disapproval. A William Morrison was the bondsman on Nov. 28, 1798. GLENN, Martha (I15901)

2196 IGI files give a couple other possible parents for a William Cornwall. William chr. 20 Nov 1577, Morval, Cornwall, ENG, son of John or chr. 24 Jul 1575, Heveningham, Suffolk, ENG, son of Gabriell Cornewall. (F-371, F-376) Savage's book hetter reputation for accuracy than any time matches in I.G.I. and so I've chosen the line as is. I do not know the children or spouses of either of these I.G.I. listings. He is also listed with only one spouse in the Terling, England Parish records: Joan Martyn when they married on Nov. 23, 1602 and two children, William and Thomas Cornwell. The sources for their children are not of substance. (F-639) Gale Cornwell also wrote that his death date was abt. 1636 instead.(F-669) CORNELL, William (I5848)

2199 In 1277, he purchased land in East Winch, Norfolk, England. In 1298, he purchased a manor house and added to his land holdings throughout his lifetime. He was counsel to the Corporation of King's Lynn from 1285 onward. Both of his wie named Alice and were of knightly houses. He had no children by his first wife. He achieved the title of Justice of Assize for the Northern Counties of England in 1293. He was summoned to the Parliament in his role as justice in 1295. In 1297, Edward I appointed him Chief Justice of the Common Please. He held this title when Edward II came into power. He was the first member of the Howard family to be knighted. HOWARD, William (I5976)

2200 In 1340, he received a royal grant for lands in Balquhain, Syde and Braco for his services in battle for Robert the Bruce and became the prognitor of the famous Leslie family in Scotland, Ireland, France, and Germany. He was given the titst Baron of Balquhain at that time. He had actually received the land in Balquhain from his father, but was given royal grant for it of higher rank in 1340. This was after Robert the Bruce had passed in 1329. Many of his descendants were named Sheriff-principal or chief magistrate in their home county of Aberdeen, titles only conferred upon the highest Barons and Earls at the time. LESLIE, George First Baron of Balquhain (I10056)
