3051 Rachel had a certifiate of removal from Frandly MM in Cheshire, ENG dated Jan 3, 1697 that was presented to the Philadelphia MM in Pennsylvania (C-432, 720, 1073) MINSHALL, Rachel (I13393)

3052 Rachel is not listed as a child of Moses Marmaduke Coate in the census or family records I've found, but I'm including her here as this is where her letter below most fits into a family related to Marmaduke and Mary Jane Coppock Coate.

This is a copy of a 1901 letter written by Rachel Coate that was typed and submitted to Amanda Pemberton Krell to help prove a families lineage back to Marmaduke and Mary Copock Coate. It is an example of a version of the family tradition passe
d down about Mary Jane Coppock and Marmaduke Coate. It has many inaccuracies. "Yours received in due time but we saw in the Messenger that your father had gone. Was sorry, my father passed away over the 24th of February age 85, 2 mo, 14days.

I have lived to see my Aunt (Handwritten: she lives here in Oregon) she is nearly three years older than father, she will be 89 the 9th of August. She is strong for her age, and has a good memory. She tells us things that father and mother use
d to tell us when we were little, about the Indians capturing James Coppock family and two sisters. There were two sisters they did not get. James he kept out of there reach and escaped to a white settlement. The sisters names were Mary and Martha. The Martha was the baby and only six weeks old and Mary was about six years old. She was sitting in the bed of a cradle rocking the baby, when the Indians came in and killed the mother and took the girls. They kept them and raised them. Now this was the Mary that married the Coate, his name was Marmaduke Coate. He bought this girl from the Indians when she was 22 years old, he traded them a fine horse and new bridle and saddle for her. Then they had to run for there lives. He was afraid they would kill him and take the girl again. It took five days to reach his home. He built fires at night to deceive them, then they would go 2 or 3 miles away and cover themselves with leaves and bushes to sleep until morning. But little Martha she married an Indian. The Mary and the Che (Cheyenne?) Coates came across her among a tribe of Indians and her sister knew her. They persuaded her to go home with them then, but she wouldn't stay. She went back to her Indian husband. Now this Mary was my great great Grandmother that married the Marmaduke Coate, they had eleven children. My grandfathers name was Moses Coate, Who also married a Coppock. The first Moses Coate had a brother by the name of John and this was my great great grandfather. He was born about 1715. My aunt tells me they all came from England and settled in S. Carolina. Then they all came to Ohio about 1806. The Marmaduke Coate and his wife Mary lived to be old, she lived to be 93 years old and he lived to be 96. Now the Ancestors on, as they came down on my Grandmothers side, First John, 2nd Joseph, Calvin, James, Elizabeth Coppock. Now Elizabeth was My Great Great Grandmother. And now on the Coate side, first Marmaduke who married Mary Coppock sister of James Coppock. The Moses my great grandfather and the Moses my Father. I have papers, leases, of everything back to sixteenth century. Rachel"

3053 Rachel was living with her daughter, Jane Coppock and son-in-law, John H. Coate in the 1880, Union Twp., Miami Co., Ohio census. (C-385) HOLLINGSWORTH, Rachel (I11765)

3054 Rachel was named in her grandmother, Rachel's will. Her mother was a Duboy by grandmother Rachel (Budd's) first husband named Isaace Duboys (Dubois). SAHLER, Rachel (I8750)

3055 Rachel was Tom (Stielembra's) sister according to Dan Evans in 1980. DAVIES, Rachel (I11764)

3056 Rachel's husband was disowned from the Quaker Church on Feb 25, 1792 for marrying out of unity. They both moved to Miami Co., Ohio along with her sister, Mary. She and Mary's families are buried next to each other in Old Concord Cemeteryr husband, Thomas W. Furnas, became an Ohio State Legislator. She could be the Rachel Coate buried in Union Cemetery just north of Ludlow Falls, Ohio who is listed as the wife of Wm. Furnas, age 73 years, 6 mo, 11 days who died on Mar. 16, 1847. 3057 Rachel's spouse, Joseph Burr, was a descendant of King Edward I through his mother Jane Abbott. (C-543a) COATE, Rachel (I16505)

3058 Raleigh was a well loved man. The minister who directed his memorial service considered him a second father to him. I certainly enjoyed our visits with him. His obituary is as follows as presented online at the Rosehill Cemetery site in Fairlawn, Ohio where he was interred:

3059 Ralph is bequeathed the 40 lbs. that he owed his step father, Aaron Coppock in Aaron's will dated 10/3/1726. Aaron calls him a son-in-law. In that day it meant, stepson. (C-2150) THOMPSON, Ralph (I798)

3060 Randle Speakman came to this country in 1682. (C-1073) MINSHALL, Elizabeth (I13761)

3061 Randulph or Randle was the Viscount of Bayeux in Normandy. King Henry I gave him the Earldom of Chester and he was it's 3rd Earl. (C-437, p. 581) DE BRICASARD, Randulph De Meschines (I12522)

3062 Ranulph was surnamed de Gernons. He was the 4th Earl of Chester. He, Empress Maud and Prince Henry participated in the overthrow of King Stephen. He took Stephen prisoner at the Battle of Lincoln. He died by a suspected poisoning fromm Peverell, Lord of Nottingham. (C-437, p 581) DE MESCHINES, Ranulph (I12670)

3063 Ratcliff was about 50 miles from where he had his children if this is the father of William. He is the only William with a phonetic spelling that could account for him in Church of England records.

He was born in Stepney which was to become London, England where his grandson was also said to be from.

There are no Vestal's in all of England. There are a very few Vestall's, Vestills, Vistalls, throughout England. However, the only Williams are the ones with this different phonetic spelling shown here.

We have 1 small triangulation from 3.6 to 5.9 cM's on chromosome 1 from approximately 242,000,000-244,000,000 with my Uncle, a cousin who descends through this William and Anna King, and a cousin who descends through William Vestal Jr., son of William Vestal b. 1711. I want to locate more triangulations to prove that this is our Vestal Lineage, but it's a very good sign. The size of the triangulation suggests the great distance in time. If this proves to be an accurate connection, then the American Vestals were of a wealthy French family that lived in England for about a generation.

It also means that the William Vassall of early Sciutate, Plymouth, Mass. there by 1643 is also our Vestal ancestor. The name was changed in spelling by his son's generation.

VASSAL, William Esquire * (I17551)

3064 Ray enlisted in World War I when he was 18 years old in Calhoun County, WV. He was six feet tall, with brown hair and eyes. He was a farmer by employment and lived in Rocksdale, Calhoun Co., West Virginia when in enrolled on Sep. 12, 1918. NUTTER, Anderson Ray (I35)

3065 Rebecca after she was married witnessed her sister, Marther Coppock Tomlinson's Quaker marriage in 1771. Rebecca is the Rebecka Evans living next to Gentleman John (John Sr.) Coates in the 1790 Newberry, SC index. She had 2 males above6, 1 male under age 16 and 4 females in her family. Her husband was obviously deceased as she was listed as the head of household. I know this to be her, because her husband, Robert Evan's land, adjoined Gentleman John's land in 1771. She is the only Rebeckah Evans listed in the 1790 census in that region. (C-1906) COPPOCK, Rebecca (I15678)

3066 Rebecca and her husband, Benjamin Bunnell were given land by her father, Peter Mallory on Jul 2, 1684. (F-635) MALLORY, Rebecca (I11702)

3067 Rebecca caught on fire. Her son, Thomas was blamed, and sentenced to death for it in court. It could easily have been an accident. (F-593) BRIGGS, Rebecca (I14864)

3068 Rebecca might have had a second marriage if she is the Rebecca Mast who married John L. Neal in 1826 in Miami Co., Ohio. (C-1025) MAST, Rebecca (I13117)

3069 Rebecca received 50 lbs in her father's will dated Feb 9, 1761. She was married to William Fell at the time. (C-2149) COPPOCK, Rebecca (I15736)

3070 Rebecca was born the 1d, 4m, 1685 and died on 29d, 5m 1708. She and Bart Coppock were both of Springfield Twp., Chester Co., PA when they married. Elizabeth Harris in an E-Mail letter gives the marriage place as Springfield MM, Pennsa Rebecca had a twin named Jacob in some sources, but it looks more like they were born two years apart to the day in transcribed Quaker records provided by Lappin. (C-613, 1073, 1304d)

Rebecca's father, Thomas Menshall, owns land adjacent to Rebecca's husband, Bartholomew Coppock, on a map of the original purchasers from William Penn, dated 1681. (C-2136)
MINSHALL, Rebecca (Mendenhall) (I15711)

3071 Rebecca Wilson and her husband Samuel Large moved to Bethlehem Twp., Hunterdon Co., NJ about a year previous to her brother Samuel moving there onto adjoining property. Rebecca and her brother were apparently very close. They had stileshing like stairs over fences built inbetween their two properties for easy access. They visited each other often and were known to cry upon parting at these stiles. She died shortly before him. (C-1509b) WILLSON, Rebecca (I16081)

3072 Rebeckah was a widow of Richard Man/Mann when she married John Cowen also of Scituate in the Plymouth Colony.  She brought several children from Richard Man into her new marriage with John Cowen. SHORT, Rebackah (I10292)

Mabel was a short woman under 5 feet tall. She had very short legs in comparison to her body. Mabel Hetzer worked as the cook and cleaner of a large home for Edna Kibble Stewart of many years of her life. She walked to work which was quite a distance. When she got too old to walk, Edna would come pick her up. Edna's husband made a fortune from his company, Stewart Instruments. Edna's brother brought Jim boxes of books for him to read. He still has all the antique "Horatio Algier" books to this day from Edna's brother. Mabel was known for her supurb apple dumplings and home made noodles. She was a great cook.

She is the Alice who signed her brother-in-law, Otis's autograph book dated 1890. She went by her middle name in the 1880 census records also. Alice's grandson, Raleigh, said there was controversy about whether or not she was a Congrove genetically. Her birth record is listed in a Chaney bible in the possession of Jim Hetzer. Last seen it was falling apart. Raleigh did not even know if she was raised by the Congroves who are currently attributed as her parents.

3079 Remember was age 5 when she came over on the Mayflower. Her mother died in Plymouth during the first winter. The family had lost a baby brother born dead at sea on the voyage over. Remember was likely age six at the first Thanksgiving. She had 2 stepmother's growing up. We can only imagine the life she had.

I have found 8 small cM sized triangulations with good Q factors with descendants of Remember so far supporting this Mayflower passenger is our ancestor at Gedmatch. Most of these triangulations include my Uncle and another descendant of Joseph Coppock and Jane Wilson supporting that their lineage descends from this Mayflower ancestor.

Several of them are clustered together on the same chromosomes again supporting the likely hood that they are accurate slices of DNA inherited between all of us from Remember Allerton.

3080 Researcher Sharon Jebavy believes this to be the James who is the son of Robert and Agness Young. Some have stated that this James married Mary McComb in the 1760's and left a will in 1790. The James who left a will in 1790 had grandcn starting in 1763 ruling out this second theory.

James was likely the named guardian when his father died in the following Chaukley records. Vol. III, Page 247.--21st May, 1762. James Young's bond (with Samuel Young, Joseph Hannet) as guardian (chosen) to Robt. Young, orphan of Robert Young...Page 367.--21st August, 1764. James Young's bond (Jno. Young, Jno. Young, Robt. Young, Jno. Kirkpatrick), as guardian (chosen) to Wm. and Hugh Young, orphans of Robt. Young, and (appointed) to Joseph Young, orphan of Robt. Young. The 150 acres land he received from his father in Beverley Manor, SC, in 1755, he sold to Mathias Gabert in 1769. James's mother, Agness, released her dower of the land which adjoined brothers Samuel and Robert's land. Chaukley, V. 3: Page 139.--17th October, 1769. James Young to Mathias Gabert,

3081 Reuben Gaskins was on the 1827 Tax lists for Gallia Co., OH, not for owning land but for his chattel. He lived in Raccoon Twp. He paid taxes on Chattel for 1 cattle in Raccoon Twp. in 1818 and on 2 cattle in Gallipolis in 1824 and 2 cattle in Raccoon Twp., Gallia Co., OH in 1825. He is missing from the 1822, 1823, 1826 and 1828 Tax lists, whatever that means.

He owns land adjacent to his father, Bartholomew, in Raccoon Twp., Rio Grande, Ohio as provided on a plat map by Warren Lawrence. (CL-495) He is within 3 houses of his father's in the 1830 census, p. 153, Raccoon Twp., Gallia Co., Ohio He was age 30 to 40. His wife was from 20 to 30 years of age. They had one son under age 5, 1 from 5-10, and 1 daughter from age 5-10. In the 1840 census in Raccoon Twp., Gallia Co., OH, they have one son under age 5, 1 from 5-10, 1 from 10-15, and he was 40-50. Females in the household include 2 under age 5, 2 from 5-10, 1 from 10-15 and 1 from 30-40. In the 1850 census, Reuben was 59, b. VA, wife Julia was 48, b. Va. with 4 daughters and 2 sons living in the household from ages 17 to 1. (CL-513)

3082 Rev. John Craig, a Presbyterian circuit rider, baptized Robert Jr. In that minister's journal it noted that Robert Jr. was born with teeth! It also indicates that he was baptized soon after birth. (CL-468)

The following record from Chalkley indicates that Robert was taken into the care of James (probably his brother or possibly his uncle) when their father died. "Page 247.--21st May, 1762. James Young's bond (with Samuel Young, Joseph Hannet) as guardian (chosen) to Robt. Young, orphan of Robert Young. "

By 1768 in fee books, Robert Jr. had moved to South Carolina. In Nov. 1771, he sold his 105/150 acres that he had inherited from his father in 1755. He was listed as a Yeoman residing in SC at this sale. These are transactions listed in Chalkley. He and his wife, Rebekka, had multiple children and lived the rest of their days in South Carolina.

His will is transcribed on Sharon Jebavy's site: "Young Connections"."Last Will and TestamentApril 14, 1810 Abbeville District, South CarolinaTo my dear beloved wife so much of the Kitchen and Household furniture as she thinks proper to take, and at her death to dispose of as she pleases; also to my dear beloved wife Rebecka Young two negroes namely Wally and John and at her death to be sold and equally divided between my three daughters Nancy, Marget and Rebecka, also one Riding Cheir, a horse to be purchased out of the sale money; all stock of cattle, hogs and sheep to be sold with the present crop of cotton now on hand and the money arising there from into the hands of my executors to pay off the legatees; to my son James Young, $20; to my son William Young, my negro fellow Stephen at the close of the present year; to my son Samuel Young, my negro fellow George my Waggon and Geer, the still and vessels and all the plantation tools with the weaving loom, to Joseph Neely, my negro girl Milly; to my daughter Marget Philips the value of Milly in money to be paid to my son in law William Philips as soon as it can be collected; to my daughter Rebeckah Chiles a negro woman and child now in her possession that is Anaha and her child Tabby; Samuel Young and Joseph Neely, executors. 14 April 1810.Robert Young (Seal).Wit: Basil Hallum, Joel Lipscomb Esqr., Alexr. 3083 Rev. Joseph Powell was of the Baptist faith. Some info about him included in an obituary of his daughter, Elenor, stated that he "being the only clergyman in thoses parts then (Bedford Co, PA),; solemnized 845 marriages up to 1804, thef his death." Eleanor was his 2nd child out of 8 children. POWELL, Rev. Joseph (I8635)

3088 Rhoda is in the 1880 Union Twp., Miami Co., Ohio census records. According to her cemetery stone in West Milton, Ohio, she was born in 1801 instead with no month or year given. (C-PHO, 1025)

Here is a transcription of her marriage to William Harb.

State of Ohio, Montgomery Co.

I do hereby certify that by virtue of a license received from the clerk of Warren Co. I joined together in the holy state of Matrimony William Harb and Rhoda Martin on the 12 Day of December 1822 given under my hand and seal the 9 day of March 1823, Henry Heineke, minister to the Evangelical Lutheran Church.

I can't find any first hand records where she is listed as a Martoin. She is always listed as a Martin.
MARTOIN, Rhoda MARTIN * (I7557)

3089 Rhoda was no longer living with her parents in the 1850 census for Howard Co., IN as it was 2 years after she married. COATS, Rhoda (I5511)

3090 Rhodri and his descendants are from the Dynasty of Deheubarth. He was the King of Gwynedd, Powys, and Ceredigion or simply known as the King of the Welsh. (C-486, p.21,788) AP MERFYN, Rhodri "Mawr" (I12713)

3091 Rhys Thomas, Esq. was the High Sheriff of County Caernarvon in 1539 and of Camarthen. (C-437, pps.7 & 568) He lived in both Coed Helen, Co. Carnarvon and Aberglasney, Co. Camarthen, Wales. (C-437, p. 576) THOMAS, Rhys Esq. (I12593)

3092 Richard Lundy II was married to Elizabeth Large the 3rd day, the fourth month, 1714 at the Hardwick and Randolph Monthly Meeting in Warren and Morris Counties, New Jersey. All nine children were born in the early residence in Buam Township, Bucks Co, Pennsylvania From 1737-1747, they lived at Maiden Creek, Berks Co., Pa and then moved again in 1747 to Allamuchy Twp, Warren Co., New Jersey.

They changed membership from the Exeter Monthly Meeting to the Kingwood Monthly Meeting at Quakertown, NJ in that same year. All of their children married and settled in Warren Co., NJ, living and dying in Johnsonburg, Allamuchy and Newton. Four of his children married children of Samuel Willson and Esther Overton. (C-256,C-257, 2540)

His Last Will and Testament dated Feb. 21, 1772 states him to be a resident of Hardwick in Sussex County, New Jersey. The researcher should note that Warren Co. formed from a part of Sussex Co. at a later date. He lived just where described in the previous paragraph. His will is recorded in WILLS, Liber. 14, pages 440-442 in the Office of the Secretary of State, Trenton, N.J. (C-257)

A Memorial was written about him by the Kingwood Quaker Monthly Meeting after his death. To quote one line of it, "He was an affectionate Husband a tender Father and Kind friend".

3096 Richard and Sarah are the parents of Mary by cousin DNA matches and fits by timing and place with the Dimmock family.

They had a daughter named Mary near the Kingswinford area that our Mary m. to Benjamin Dimmock lived born in the year that is suggested as her birthdate in the 1841 census. Both the Rounds and the Dimmocks were of Warwickshire and Staffordshire. Their homes allowed them to have children baptised in one county while living in the other so they had to be right on the border.

Here is his death record confirming that his wife was a widow when she died a year later.

Great Alne is within 28 miles of where he married in Dudley, Worcestershire. I can't find any baptisms for a Richard in all of England between 1737 and 1772.
ROUND, Richard (I10235)

3097 Richard Coppock was involved in the tanning trade, a business he probably inherited through marriage to Ellen Bradbury. Although he married in Mobberley, he doesn't appear to have ever lived there. He was instead a resident of Wilmslow.

This Richard who wrote his will in 1646 and has the children listed could be the Richard who was born in 1564 to Richard or in 1565 to Hugh, both of Wilmslow Parish, England. It could make sense that he is the son of Hugh as 3 of Hugh's child
ren, Margaret, Richard and Sislie, have the same names as this Richard's children. However, the wrench in that theory is that "Richard the Yonger" (Younger?) which would probably be the Richard who is the son of Hugh is listed as the father of a Hugh b. in 1600. If he is the same one who had the many children listed below, why was he not listed as Richard the Yonger for any of his other children's births? In either case, he is highly likely to have the same ancestors within two or more generations. (C-2250E)

I am assuming that he is the Richard who was the son of Richard, born 1564, because he has multiple children with the same names as his parents and siblings, including Margaret, John, Richard, Ellen and Anne. He also has a daughter-in-law named Joan, but I don't know which of his son's he married. She could be the wife of Richard, Sisley, Edmund or Francis.
