  • Notes
    • Edward left home from Mar. 1, 1850 till Apr. 1853 when he was not fully grown, to hunt for gold during the Califonia Gold Rush. He traveled there via Central America. When returning to Sangamon Co., IL, he spent a couple years buying anding stock. He worked as a merchant for a year in Sandova, Marion Co., IL and then again returned, this time to farming. Farming became his life-long pursuit. He located in Woodside Twp. in 1870 with 80 acres of land. His home is described as "perfection of neatness ..in all the surroundings and the coziness of the dwelling... a cottage of modern design which, set in the midst of beautiful grounds and surrounded by fruitful fields and orchard is a jewel of pearl in emerald quite in keeping with the other features of the landscape." (Portrait and Biographical Album of Sangamon Co., ILL, 1891) (CL-327)
