• Notes

  He is listed as a planter by trade. He is likely the William Spencer who owned land in 1635 near or on Lawne's Creek which was the dividing line between Surry and Isle of Wight Counties in Virginia. Surry is the county where the orginal Jamestown Settlement took place in what was to become Jamestown, Virginia. In 1640 Captain William Pierce of Mulberry Island conveyed 50 acres on Lawne's Creek that was next to William Spencer's land to William Spencer. William Spencer is listed as one of the earliest settlers who inhabited Jamestown within it's first 18 years. He is not a member of the original listing in 1607.
