  • Notes
    • There is much controversy over the parentage of Hedwig in all major medieval sources. Current German research which is heaviest at the moment believes her to be the daughter of Margrave Henry who died fighting the Normans in Paris on 8/. His title was the Duke of Austrasians. Her mother was probably a granddaughter of St. Ida (d.c.820) and Count Egbert (living 809-11), a Saxon. Other theories are that she is the illegitimate daughter of Arnulf, King of Germany and Oda of Bavaria, (A.R., Charlemagne and his World); or Heinrich (d. 885) Markgraf of the Netherlands, (Isenburg); or Henry, Compte de la Marche, (Sallot).
