  • Notes
    • Walter Denny Jay, was "a most remarkable man. One who knew phrenology said he had a head much like that of Napoleon Bonaparte, and in many traits he resembled him... concentration ...courage with prudence.." according to the "Annals of Ny." He is likely the "Denny Jay" along with his brother Samuel Jay who were operators on the Underground Railroad in Montgomery Co., Ohio. Walter Denny Jay likely had a son named John who is buried in the Quaker burial in West Milton. His stone says he is the son of W.D. and M. Jay, died 2 Mo. 6, 1840 at 27 years of age. (C-PHO, 296)
