  Elizabeth Harris gives his birth date as Oct. 9, 1758. Gr.gr. grandniece, Earnist E. Dearmond gives his birth date as Oct 15, 1758 and states he was born in England to Moses and Martha Scarr Coppock. (C-390e) James accounts for one of the individuals living with his mother when she applied for 300 acres of land in Newberry/Berkeley Co., SC in 1767. The acreage means that Martha had at least 5 persons including herself living in her household when she petitioned for 300 acres. (C-2289) James emigrated from Bush River, SC with his family to near the present city of Tippacanoe, Ohio on 5/30/1806. He was received on certificate from Bush River on 8/30/1806. On one of these certificates he was listed as moving with his wife, and children: Moses, Susannah and Martha only, leaving me to conjecture that the others had died before 1806. (C-1430) He might have lived for a few years in Wayne Twp., Warren Co., Ohio as there is a James in the 1809 tax list living there in that year. (C-1057) He died back in Miami Co., Ohio in 1838. In the manuscript "History of Coate and Coppock Families", it states he left but one child, Moses. (C-941, 1519f)
