  • Notes
    • In Oct of 1767, Joseph's father deeds him land. This would indicate that Joseph was at least 18 and probably more likely 21 years of age. It is possible that it was a wedding present in which case Joseph's estimated wedding date ofs incorrect. In 1771 Joseph signed the petition to have Caswell Co. established from Orange Co., North Carolina. (C-167) He was not in his father's will. (C-169) There is a Joseph Jay in the 1790 Newberry Co., SC census that could be this Joseph. In his household there were 2 males over 16, 3 under 16 and 2 females. His will was probated on Aug. 25, 1806 in Abbeville District, South Carolina. It was apparently stolen from the courthouse and is no longer available. (C-957)
