  • Notes
    • He is likely the John Coates that witnessed the marriage of his sister Amey, in the 10mo 1780 in Kingwood monthly meething along with several other members of his family. There is a John Coates, brother of a William, who died on Mar 3,ho might be this John. He was probably born in Chester Co., PA estimated about this John's birthdate. His wife's name might have been Mary. They lived in Lower Oxford Twp., Chester Co., PA in the 1790 census. He had a son named Thomas born in 1791 who lived in the same township in the 1820 census. Thomas died in New London, Pennsylvania. They were Presbyterians who spelled their name Coates. John died in 1742. Descendants of this John moved to Vineland, NJ at some point in their lives. The info on these two brothers comes closest to matching this family, especially since John's oldest son is named Thomas. There also tend to be some King marriages into the descendants of this line. However, be aware that it is theory at this point in time. (C-2074)
