  I am theorizing that there were 2 brothers that inhabited Muchelney of similar peerage and place to account for the majority if not all of the Muchelney Coates. They consistently had their name spelled Coate in this town which was unusuae names Henry and John were predominant in descendants of Marmaduke Coate and Mary Somner by the way.
