  • Notes
    • Ratcliff was about 50 miles from where he had his children if this is the father of William. He is the only William with a phonetic spelling that could account for him in Church of England records.

He was born in Stepney which was to become London, England where his grandson was also said to be from.

There are no Vestal's in all of England. There are a very few Vestall's, Vestills, Vistalls, throughout England. However, the only Williams are the ones with this different phonetic spelling shown here.

We have 1 small triangulation from 3.6 to 5.9 cM's on chromosome 1 from approximately 242,000,000-244,000,000 with my Uncle, a cousin who descends through this William and Anna King, and a cousin who descends through William Vestal Jr., son of William Vestal b. 1711. I want to locate more triangulations to prove that this is our Vestal Lineage, but it's a very good sign. The size of the triangulation suggests the great distance in time. If this proves to be an accurate connection, then the American Vestals were of a wealthy French family that lived in England for about a generation.

It also means that the William Vassall of early Sciutate, Plymouth, Mass. there by 1643 is also our Vestal ancestor. The name was changed in spelling by his son's generation.
