  It is my theory that Bettie who lists herself as the Aunt of Mary Sue True in the 1900 census, was from the farm of Elizabeth Lumpkins in Madison Co., Alabama. That is why she took the name Lumpkins when she was emancipated during the Civil War. If she is blood relative of Mary Sue True which remains to be seen hopefully through DNA at some point in time, than this is a reasonable explanation of their relationship.
