  He was married twice. His first wife supposedly died on the way over to America in 1803. She might have died in childbirth or from complications thereof as son, John Peter Derenberger, Jr. Their name was changed from Von Derenberg to Derenberger when coming to America. The Von Derenberg original name has not yet been verified. If correct, the "VON" indicates landed gentry at the minimum with royal lineage likely.
