    • Charles married his father's great niece, Juliana. He acceded to the throne in 790 being named King of Neustria. Charles was chosen to be the son who succeeded Charlemagne as emperor. He was crowned King the same day his father wasd Emperor of the West in the year 800. However, he died of a stroke a couple years before his father died keeping this dream from fruition. (E)
