• Notes

  John and brother Gideon moved to Cherokee Co., Alabama after their father's death. They are often confused with persons of the same name who are likely their relatives buried in Missouri. It is also highly likely that the info on the Sions in SC is confused between at least a second set of Sions also in that region. There is a second set of brothers named Sion (1807-1856) and Gideon E. Coats (Jun24 1811-1884) that are buried within 2 miles of each other in Etowah Co., AL (was then Cherokee Co.) whose stepmother Sarah Perry was said to have moved from SC with them. (C-1992)
