  • Notes
    • Killed in Battle. Known as Niall of the Nine Hostages from the nine counties of Ireland that he subdued and made tributary to him. The are Munster, Leinster, Connacht, Ulster, the Britons, Picts, Saxons, and Morini of Gaul. The center of hs government was at Tara. There is a legend that on one of his ventures into Gaul, he captured a young boy. The boy eventually escaped, but returned to Ireland as St. Patrick. Reportedly he had fair skin, hair the color of yellow primrose, and deep, blue-gray eyes. He was killed in his sleep while aboard his royal galley.
