• Notes

  Eli Jay in the Centenial History of West Branch states that Jonathan married Martha Compton on Jun 20, 1860 instead of the wife listed here. This Jonathan is likely the Jonathan Coates who was an operator on the underground railroad in Mi., OH along with his brother Joshua. His death certificate in Miami Co., Ohio gives his death date as May 1, 1872. His bible gives his death date as May 5, 1872 and his tombstone gives it as May 6, 1872. He died of typhoid fever and his doctor appears to have submitted his death information along with many others. Therefore, I suspect that the familiy placed stone or bible are more accurate.
