• Notes

  In 1340, he received a royal grant for lands in Balquhain, Syde and Braco for his services in battle for Robert the Bruce and became the prognitor of the famous Leslie family in Scotland, Ireland, France, and Germany. He was given the titst Baron of Balquhain at that time. He had actually received the land in Balquhain from his father, but was given royal grant for it of higher rank in 1340. This was after Robert the Bruce had passed in 1329. Many of his descendants were named Sheriff-principal or chief magistrate in their home county of Aberdeen, titles only conferred upon the highest Barons and Earls at the time.
