    Notes:

    According to Nottingham M.M. records, John was born the 9th month, 18th day in 1736 to John Coppock and Margaret, his wife. One correspondent with Mendenhall states that John married Catherine King before marrying Abigail in 1761. They supposedly had three children named Thomas, Samuel and Jonathan. This has no proof to support it at this point in time. (C-1430) John received a certificate of removal from the E. Nottingham M.M. in Cecil Co., MD on the 26d, 7m, 1777. It stated that he had made amends with the E. Nottingham M.M. several years after marrying out of unity and being disowned for it. It also stated that John currently was living within the "verge" of the Bush River Monthly Meeting in South Carolina when the letter of removal was written. John's will was written July 19, 1801 and proved Aug. 3, 1801. His administrators were (wife) Abigail, Aaron and John (possible sons) Coppock. Purchasers included Joseph Coppock and Joseph Furnas. (C-884, 1301) He is listed on the same page as his son John in the 1800 Newberry Co., SC census records. His household included he and his wife over 45, and one son between age 16 and 26. (C-931, 1057) Of his 9 or 10 children, Aaron, John, Susannah Elleman and Abigail Weeks emigrated to Ohio. (C-1017)

    She and her husband are not listed as deceased when their children are still marrying in 1782 in Little Britain MM. I have seen her death date listed elsewhere as 1776... but I suspect this might belong to a daughter named after Ann that died young. It definitely does not apply to this Ann as she is still listed as living up through marriages of her children in 1792... whereas her husband is listed as deceased before the 1789 marriages in the Little Britain MM records.

    Notes:

    Joseph Coppock, son of John Coppock of Little Brittain Twp., Lancaster Co. PA married Jane Wilson, daughter of John Wilson of the Twp. of East Marlborough, Chester Co., PA according to their Quaker marriage record. The marriage record clearly stated that it took place on the 4th day, 5th month, 1769. Joseph left the East Nottingham MM, Chester Co., PA (also in Maryland) area on certificate dated Dec. 26, 1772 and was received in the Bush River MM, Newberry Co. area on April 30, 1774.

    He and his children are all listed in Medlin's, [UL:Quaker Familes:UL]. He purchased land on Oct. 29, 1784 from John Ridgdel in Newberry. He is listed as an early businessman in Summer's "Newberry Co., SC Historical and Genealogical" book. (C-2774)

    A Joseph Cupock is listed in the 1790 South Carolina Census, Newberry Co., 96th district, pg. 77 with 4 males age 16 & older, 3 males under age 16 and 4 females. This record probably applies to the above Joseph Coppock. He deeded land to (son or brother) Thomas on Mar. 14, 1794 in Newberry Co., South Carolina. (C-909) He sold land to Frederick Burtz on Sept. 17, 1797 in Newberry. Then Thomas Coppock sold Joseph land in the same county on November 7, 1797. (C-908) He was not listed in the 1800 census. He was possibly living with son, John as John's household lists a male over 45 as well as one from age 16-26. (C-219)

    His will is as follows. *Coppock, Joseph, 11th day, 10th month, 1799 Will.     Samuel's marriage in some 2nd hand respected books is said to be on the 11th of Dec., 1775. However, I have a copy of the original from "Quaker Records in Maryland" provided by Patti Sue McCrary and it clearly states that they married on the 7th day of the 12th month, 1775. His wife's name is also clearly stated to be Ellen Sidwell, daughter of Isaac and Ann Sidwell of Little Brittain Twp., Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania Samuel was in the 1800 U.S. Census Records for Lancaster, Pennsylvania According to Annie Natalli-Waloszek, he died about 1806 in Salem, Columbiana Co., Ohio This varies by date from other sources and needs verified.     Notes:

    Aaron was a Quaker minister. All of his children were born in Tennessee from 1798 to 1811. He was received into the New Hope MM, Greene Co., TN on Dec 31, 1796 from the Bush River MM in SC where he had grown up. On Jan. 3, 1818 they had moved and were received into the Newberry Monthly Meething in Blount Co., Tennesse.

    In Aaron's will written in Ohio, he named wife, Margaret, d. Elizabeth and other two daughters, son Aaron in Tenn. and grandson Aaron, sons Elijah, Abraham, and Josiah. His executors were Samuel Coate Jr. and son Josiah Coppock. His witnesses were Nicholas Tucker, Richard Thompson and William Coppock. (C-1017, 1546, 2247e)

    He is listed next to John Coppock, Sr. and is likely the John Coppock who was in the 1800 census record between 26 and 45 with a wife the same age. They had 3 sons and two daughters under age 10. He and his family moved to Miami County, Ohio in 1805 and settled one and a half miles north of Ludlow Falls. They were Quakers. (C-931, 1057, 1430, 2109)

That is likely because he was disowned by the Quaker church when he married his wife who was not a Quaker. In the 1810 Newberry census, he might be the Joseph who had 2 sons under age 10, 1 male age 16 to 26 and himself from 26 to 45. Mendenhall in his book claims that Samuel is the son of Joseph and Jane Coppock.     William emigrated to Ludlow Falls, (Newton Twp.) Miami Co., Ohio in 1807 along with some of his brothers and Mother in the early days of settlement in this region. He cleared the trees to build a log cabin and married within a couple years. He was a teamer by profession and his wagons ran from Cincinnati to the outlying settlements.

    His cemetery stone in 2004 was difficult to read. His home was in Ludlow Falls, Ohio. His death occurred 3 years after his marriage to Eunice in 1812 and I wonder if it occurred because of his trade between newly settled areas. His age listed on his stone would make his birthdate be 4/14/1789 instead of the date I've found printed in other reputable sources so I don't know which birth date is correct. (C-1017)

(C-1025) We know that Jesse married Anna Cothran from two sources, Hinshaw's Quaker Encyclopedia which lists both their parents and one of their children's marriage records. He sells his land in Miami Co., Ohio in 1836 and shows up in Pulaski Co., IN in 1837. He is in Hinshaw, Union M.M., OH when he marries and then disappears from Hinshaw's Quaker records. According to Alan Coppock, he left SC in 1805, moved to Ohio and then finally moved to Indiana in 1837. He had 6 sons and 1 daughter, plus 1wife, Anna, when they moved to Indiana. He built the 1st log cabin in Pulaski, IN where his next son was born in 1838 named Olvier D. He was elected one of the first three County Commissioners of Pulaski County in 1841.

    Anna died before him. He married 2 other women before he died in 1851. He has a standing tombstone in that county that verifies this.

On page 538 it shows Jesse COPPOCK on March 18, 1839 recorded 160 acres of land in Salem Twp., Section 25 SW 1/4 who was a likely 1 cousin, once removed or his brother, Jesse. There are two Jesse's of similar age from SC at the time. It is not known for sure however, if either sons of John and Anna Jay Coppock named Jesse and Isaac lived in Indiana. It is known for a fact that Jesse Coppock, son of Joseph and Jane Wilson Coppock lived in this part of Indiana.

    This Benjamin's birth date comes from a Genealogy blank prepared by the Ohio Dep. of Vital Records in 1962 for Annie Coppock Kransdorf's mother. They supposedly used vital records and published biographies for most of their information. It gives his birth date as Jul 18, 1817 and Sep. 17, 1890 for his death date. However, his death date differs in other sources. He is likely the Benjamin Coppock who was committed to the State Mental Institution for Insanity after having suffered a mental disorder for two years that started with being unable to sleep and grew into a state where family members stated that they feared that he was not safe to himself or others. There is a series of letters and documents that can be studied about his case in the Miami County Court House Probate section filed on Mar. 19, 1850, Case #1840, B-154. One of the documents filed by his doctor stated that it was not Epilepsy although several family members were diagnosed with Epilepsy.

    Notes:

    It is somewhat likely that Susannah married a Coates. I say this because there is an unaccounted for Susan Coates who was the head of household living next to Joseph C. Coppock (her brother) and Hannah Cothran (her Aunt??) in the 1840 Newton Twp., Miami Co., OH census. If this is her, she had 2 sons from age 15-20 and 2 daughters age 10 to 15. She was listed at age 50-60, but this could easily be misinformation from whomever gave info to the census taker. She was actually about age 47 at the time.

    Notes:

    He was born in a log cabin which still stood near Ludlow Falls, Miami Co., Ohio in the 1950s when the centennial history of the area was published. It might still be the log cabin standing there when I last visited in 2006. Joseph bought old Marmaduke's farm. He is in the 1840 Newton Twp., Miami Co., Ohio census with 3 sons under age 5, 1 son from age 5-10, 1 son from 15 to 20, and he was between 20 and 30 years of age. His wife was between 20 and 30 and they had no daughters listed. Later, he and his wife moved to Pleasant Hill where he owned a flour and saw mill. He had also learned the occupation of smithing at an early age from his step-father, Henry Coate. He used this skill early in his marriage to make sickles for a living before trying farming and then milling. He was also elected as the Justice of the Peace twice in his lifetime. (C-670, 1430, E)
