4. | ![]() ![]() Notes: Anna lived in house 36 next door to house 35 that had Toder Dudik's family living there. Her likely sister Maria married a nephew of Toder. |
5. | ![]() ![]() Notes: He is a likely brother of Maria Bogdan by age and place of residence. There were only a few Bogdan's in Nevicke. He lived in house 42 in Nevicke. In house 55 there is a Janos Bogdan born in 1831 who is a likely cousin. Family/Spouse: Julia RUSZUAH. 6. | ![]() ![]() Notes: I am assuming he is a brother to Maria because Bogdan's were extremely rare in Neviczke and he is having children at a similar time to Maria. He also names a daughter Maria. He was a witness to the baptism of Josef Pypyk on Mar. 23, 1857 in Neviczke. The baby sadly died 2 days later. Family/Spouse: Yulianna KARBOVANETS. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

7. | ![]() ![]() Notes: Mary's maiden name listed in her daughter's first marriage application to Michael Cesario is Mary Budgon and in her second is Mary Smith. Smith was often a translation of a much different common name in the old country. However, in this case, I simply believe Mary said the name of a person was Smith when she didn't want to reveal the identity of a person. This is based on the fact that in her first marriage application she said her father's name was Mike Smith. (D-170) In records of this family from Neviczke, in what is now the Ukraine, this name was spelled Bogdan or Bogdoin. Maria and Joseph Dudik's first son Andras had his baptism witnessed by a Julianna Bogdoin. This could easily be a sister, mother or niece of this Maria Bogdan. Also, when Maria's daughter, Maria Vocsik, emmigrated to the U.S. in 1892, she traveled with a female relative of her mother's named (Baoko)? Bogdan, age 18, a likely sister or cousin. When an untranslated record occurs for a Bax.. Dudik, witnesses were a Joseph Popovitz and an a Borbola Bogdan (female). Family/Spouse: Mihaly VOVCSIK. Mihaly (son of Unknown VOVCSIK and Juliana VEGESA) was born in 1842 in Of Neviczke, Ung, Ungvasi Jaros, Magyar (Now In Ukraine); died after 1920 in Of Neviczke, Ung, Ungvasi Jaros, Magyar (Now In Ukraine). 12. | ![]() ![]() Notes: Mary lists her birth year as 1867 in the 1900 U.S. Census for Elk Co., Pennsylvania. She is age 24 in 1892 when she emmigrated to this country in New York estimating her birth as 1867 or 1868. In her marriage licenses though, she lists her birth date as 1865. She lists her parents as Mike Wolfe and her mother as Maria Bugdon in one of her marriage applications to her second husband, Mike Cesario. Marie married Gyorgy Josef DUDIK, * in 1886. Gyorgy (son of Andras DUDIK, * House 23 and Anna KALINCSAK) was born in May 1864 in Neviczke, Ung, Ungvasi Jaros, Magyar (Now In Ukraine); died on 2 Nov 1907 in Clarion Junction, Johnsonburg, Elk, Pennsylvania, USA. Marie married Michael (Mick) Anthony CESARIO on 5 Jun 1909 in Cattaraugus, New York, USA. 13. | ![]() ![]() Notes: He emmigrated in 1890 and his wife in 1893. He stated that he migrated from Austria and arrived at Philadelphia on or about the 2nd day of December, 1893. (McKean Co., PA Alien Dockets, pg. 253, D-94.) It is unlikely that his surname was spelled as Wojcik by himself as that spelling appears to almost always be someone from Poland. He supposedly is in the 1900 census for Johnsonburg, PA under the name of John Wolfe. I have not been able to find he or his family in any of the census records. He was born in 1872 according to the Andersons. The Vovcsik's did have a son named Janos in 1869 according to their census records. If he died young and they renamed a second son Janos then he could have been born in 1872. I'm taking the simplest explanation though that he was the Janos who was born in 1869. Janos married Julia PATRICK before 1896. Julia was born on 20 May 1875; died on 21 Sep 1926 in Kane Hospital, Johnsonburg, Elk, PA, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

14. | ![]() ![]() Notes: Julia (married) brought her niece Maria to her parents and entered into Ellis Island on Nov. 27, 1896. Their destination was listed as New York. Her place of origin is listed as M.L.A. Maria's was listed as Hungary. Juliana apparently returned to the old country and brought back 2 children, Josef and Maria in the U.S. in 1900 to meet up with her husband and their father, Joe Kacsik in Oil City, Pennsylvania. Juliana married Josef KACSIK about 1894. Josef died in 1951 in Endicott, Broome, New York, United States; was buried in St. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Endicott, Broome, NY, USA. 15. | ![]() ![]() Notes: Mihaly Vocsik possibly entered New York in 1892 traveling with his friend and roommate on the trip, Joseph Dudik. Mihaly is listed at age 27 on this his first known voyage. (Our birthdate for him would make him 14 instead.) His sister, Maria Vocsik and Maria and Joseph's female relative, B. Bogdan were also on the trip in another cabin onboard. I assume they were watching out for them. According to a 1905 ships manifest, Mihaly had been in the US from 1902-1904 and was returning with his wife on the 1905 voyage. Mihaly married Anna DUDIK on 10 Nov 1902 in Neviczke, Ung, Ungvasi Jaros, Magyar (Now In Ukraine). Anna (daughter of Andrej\Andras DUDIK and Maria VUXTA) was born on 26 Oct 1880 in Neviczke, Ung, Ungvasi Jaros, Magyar (Now In Ukraine); died in in Of Neviczke, Ung, Ungvasi Jaros, Magyar (Now In Ukraine). 16. | ![]() ![]() Notes: This is the closest match I've found so far in Ellis Island emigration records. I'm not sure if this is a name for Steve in Hungarian or not: Walczik, Stanislaw, Ethnicity: Russia Date of arrival: March 07, 1892 40y, M, Ship: Dania, Port of Embarkation: Hamburg, Germany. He is likely the Stephen Wolfe who was born in Hungary in 1884 and lived in Luzerne, PA in the 1920 census. He was listed as married at the time, with both of his parents being born in Pennsylvania. There is also a Steve Wolfe living in Summit, Ohio married to an Annie. He was also born in 1884 in Hungary in the 1920 census. This could be the same person who lived in 2 different locations in the year 1920. (D-115) |
17. | ![]() ![]() Notes: According to the 1920 census records for Mike Perilla, she was listed as his wife, Ella who emigrated in 1910. Mike, her husband, emigrated in 1908 previous to her. With this clue, I was able to find her entrance into this country on Oct. 5, 1910 through Ellis Island. Her place of residence is listed as Neviczke, (Ungvar) Hungary. She was 25 years of age, a female (transcribed with the name of Veron Perilla), married, embarking from Carnaro, Triest, Austria and arriving here on the Carpathia. Ungvar (District), Hungary was to become Uzhorod, Czechoslovakia and currently is named Uzhhorod in the Ukraine. She is listed as Hungarian by nationality and Slovak by race. She was 4' 10" tall with brown hair and blue eyes. Her father Mihaly Wocsik was a resident of Nevicske, Hungary in 1910. Veronica married Michael PIRILLA in 1908. Michael was born about 1883 in , , Austria Hungary; died on 25 Sep 1933 in Curwensville, Clearfield, PA, USA; was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Clearfield, PA, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

18. | ![]() ![]() Notes: We don't know if he ever emmigrated to America or when he died. |
19. | ![]() ![]() Notes: Though not likely, he could belong to the following Ellis Island record if he was married to another woman before he married Anna: Gyorgy Volcsik from Hungary, arrived at Ellis on Aug. 15, 1895, age 35 years, married, on the Spree from Bremen, Germany. He would be from the right place and time to be this George. (D-202) According to his wife's 103rd birthday newspaper article in the Times Herald, his wife, Anna, was 37 at the time of his death with 7 children to raise alone, suggesting that he died around 1923. According to Ken Anderson, he had left his wife and children previously to his death in the 1930's and went to New York City. This is supported by the fact that a WWII draft registration card shows his living in the Bowery in New York city in 1942 and by the fact that she still lists herself as married in the 1940 census where she is the head of household. George married Anna JURIK on 29 May 1910. Anna was born on 1 Oct 1886 in , , , Hungary; died on 17 Nov 1991 in Coudersport, Potter, PA, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

20. | ![]() ![]() Notes: Andras is likely one of the 2 children that Joseph and Maria had that died according to the 1900 census which showed them with 7 living children and 2 whom had passed. In any case, he did not come to America with this family that we know of. Mihaly Vovcsick was the witness to his baptism which took place one day after his birth. Mihaly would likely have been his grandfather or his Uncle, Maria's brother. |
21. | ![]() ![]() Notes: The 1900 census lists Mary as Marie, age 11 who was a naturalized citizen. (D-50) This would make her birthdate approximately 1889. However, no birth record can be found for her in Neviczke, Hungary at the time. She had 2 other siblings born there before and after this date that are listed in the records. Perhaps she was born in Budapest or at a relative's home outside of Neviczke. She is likely to be the Maria Dudik who emigrated from Hungary on Nov 27, 1896, age 7 on the ship Havel, from the port, Breman, Germany to Ellis Island, New York. This Maria was traveling with a possible Aunt, Julia Volsik, age 22, a married American citizen. The record lists her as a male, but Maria has an aunt married to John Volcik (her mother's brother) named Julie Volcsik. I therefore suspect that Julia's sex was simply mistranslated. (D-199) Mary married Daniel SNYDER on 10 May 1915 in Allentown, Lehigh, PA, USA. Daniel was born about 1888 in Allentown, Lehigh, PA, USA; died after 1930 in Of Allentown, Lehigh, PA, USA. 23. | ![]() ![]() Notes: John Joseph Dudick, Sr. was either born in Germany, Austria, Hungary or in Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania. His marriage certificate, death certificate and social security records say Pennsylvania, but his son, John remembers him saying he was born in Germany. His birth record has not been able to be located, even though Elk Co., PA kept track of birth records from 1893 to 1905. He also lists his age differently in a couple of different forms. In his marriage record dated Dec. 29, 1919, he lists himself at age 25. His parents lived in Neviczke, Hungary for probably at least 3 generations, but came to America in 1892. If his 1894 birthdate is correct, he was likely born in Pennsylvania. John married Susan Irene KUTCHMIRE on 24 Jan 1920 in St. Bernard's Church, Bradford, Mckean, PA, USA. Susan (daughter of Mihaly \ Michael KACSMAR and Maria HRUSKOVITS) was born on 17 Jun 1902 in Ormsby, Mckean, PA, USA; was christened on 28 Jun 1902 in Bradford, Mckean, PA, USA; died on 20 Oct 1981 in Bradford, Mckean, PA, USA; was buried on 22 Oct 1981 in Bridge View Cemetery, Mt. 24. | ![]() ![]() Notes: In Anna's marraige record, she is listed as being born in Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania and living in Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania in 1914. In Anna's obituary, it lists her surviving sisters as Marian of Burbank, CA, Josephine of Salamanca, NY (half-sister) and Veronica of Grand Haven, Michigan. We think Ella's real name was Veronica. (D-164) Anna married Melvin W. MCELROY on 28 Oct 1914 in Mount Jewett, Mckean, Pennsylvania, USA. Melvin was born on 25 Feb 1885 in Emlenton, Venango, Pennsylvania, USA; died on 11 Apr 1967 in , , Pennsylvania. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
25. | ![]() ![]() Notes: Veronica was her baptismal name. She is listed as a shoemaker when she marries John Lasko in 1917 going by the name of Ella Dudick. She is still using the name Ella in the 1920 census for Union Twp., Endicott, NY. She and her husband had a son John by this point in time. They could both read and write in English. Their native language was Slovak. Both their parents were born in Austria according to the 1920 and 1930 census records. Ella married John LASKO on 27 Oct 1917 in Endicott, Broome, New York, USA. John was born on 11 Aug 1893 in , , , Austria-Hungary; died in Feb 1971 in Brooklyn, Kings, New York, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

26. | ![]() ![]() Notes: He was baptized with the name Georgium (in latin) and went by the name of Joe. After Joe's father's death, the children were sent to an orphanage while Mary went to work at a boarding house. Joe was adopted for a while by a family who thought he was German. When they discovered he wasn't, they neglected him and he ran back to the orphanage at St. Marys. As an adult, he worked as a laborer and carpenter. He was living in Hamlin, McKean Co., PA in the 1930 census, married and with 4 children. He was a fireman for the brickworks and living next to his stepbrother, Tony Cesario and cousin, John Perilla. He listed his parents birthplace as Czechoslovakia. He lived in Kushequa, Pennsylvania when his son George Joseph was honored in 1951 by becoming President of his Chical Engineering group in college. Joe retired as a employee of Kaul Clay Products. (D-45, 164) His obituary gives some incrongruos dates with those believed to be accurate by his son George. It gives his birth date as Oct. 22, 1899 in Dubois, PA, the son of George and Mary Wolfe Dudick. It says he married Grizelda James on Jan. 12, 1933. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church. The information was provided by Joes's youngest daughter, and George Joseph, Jr. clearly disagrees with the place of birth as provided by his sister. George married Grizelda JAMES on 12 Jan 1923 in Olean, Cattararaugus, NY, USA. Grizelda was born on 2 Dec 1904 in Kushequa, , PA, USA; died on 6 Oct 1962; was buried after 6 Oct 1962 in Mt. 27. | ![]() ![]() Notes: She is listed as Ella Dudick, b. Oct 20, 1901 in the Ridgway Twp., Elk Co, PA birth records which totally does not agree with her baptismal record. The doctor that submitted names and dates to the courthouse made extreme mistakes on every single entry for this family and it can't be taken as truth. The baptismal records have actually been recorded within a week of this families' birth dates, and seem accurate. Julie was taken in while she was in an orphanage after her father's death by the chief of police. Though not officially adopted, she was given the name Marian Gertrude by her caretakers. This was the name she was called as an adult. She and her mother tried desperately to connect again throughout their lives. When Marian finally found her lost family with the help of the Catholic church, her mother had already passed on. (D-164) She is most likely to be named after a close relative of her mother's, as Julia is the name of another person who emigrated from the same region that Mary's sister, Veronica is from with the same surname of Vovcsik. He was listed as a laborer in the brickworks. George was listed as a fireman for the brickworks. In the 1940 census, he is the Anthony Cesario living in Mt. Jewett, McKean Co., PA with wife Gladys and children Patty Jean and Beverly Joan Cesario. He was working for the Park system and making 1372.00 a year which seemed higher than his neighbors.
