  1. 2.  James DIMMOCK, *James DIMMOCK, * Descendancy chart to this point (1.Mary1) was born in May 1806 in Musham, Dudley, Worcestershire, ENG; was christened on 26 May 1806 in Park Lane Presbyterian, Cradley, Worcester, England; died after 1851 in Of Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, ENG.

    Notes:

James is the son of Benjamin and Mary according to English baptismal records. He was baptized on May 26, 1805 or 1806 depending upon which translation is read. He was born in Dudley, Worcestershire, England according to the 1851 census. What the researcher needs to know is that Dudley, Staffordshire, England was part of the county of Worcestershire, England for many years meaning that his parents still lived near Rowley Regis, Dudley, Staffordshire, England where they grew up when James was born. He likely has siblings or cousins named Benjamin (b.1804) m. Fanny, Samuel (b. bef 1810) m. Elizabeth, Benjamin (b. 1803) m. Sarah, and Josh (b. 1802) m. Ann who all gave their birthplace as Dudley, Worcestershire, England in this census. There is a John Dimmack in Dudley, Worcestershire, England that might be a brother of this James who was having children in 1824 in Dudley. In that same town, a Mary Ann Dimmack married in 1848 who could be a daughter of this James also. (C-2580)

As for his parents, there is a John Dimmock, b. abt. 1777 in Dudley, Worcestershire, England who was still in residence in Dudley in the 1851 census, though it's county location was now listed as Staffordshire, England. His wife's name was Ann. If John is James' father, it's not a name carried down in the family. Any of the following newspaper entries might apply to this James. There is only 1 James Dimmock anywhere in Staffordshire in the newspapers. Though he appears to be of higher standing than that of a coal minor it still might be the 1 James Dimmock who is in the 1841 and 1851 census records as well as the news for Staffordshire.

    Notes:

The name Dimmack probably originated from Sir Robert Dymoke who was King's Champion of Henry VII and Henry VIII. Many descendants of Sir Robert also held this title. According to Marsters', "A Genealogy of the Dimock Family," all the Dimock family in the U.S. are descendants of Sir Robert. There is an ancient town in England whose name is recorded as "Dimoch" in the Doomsday Book where the knightly English family of Dymoke resided in a castle until the 14th century when they moved to Scribelsby. It was a viable town through Celtic, Saxon and Roman eras. (C-2094, 2278)

We know that Keturah's father is Benjamin from her marriage record and the 1851 census. In the 1851 census, he and his wife, Martha are living in Dudley, Staffordshire, England. He is listed at age 27 and his wife at 28. Their birthplaces respectively were Rowley, Staffordshire and Morley, Salop, England. They had 2 children, Alfred and Charles, age 3 and 3 months born in Rowley and Dudley respectively. Benjamin is listed as a coal miner. They are living with Mary Wilson, who is a widow with children in the 1861 census. (C-2574) Mary was born in Scotland so I don't believe she was a relative. The 1861 census includes our ancestor Keturah as the child of Benjamin. Benjamin's birthplace is listed as Dudley, Staffordshire, England but the earlier 1851 gives his birthplace as Rowley where most of his siblings were also born. It is the one more likely to be accurate. In the 1861 census, Benjamin's wife is still Martha. The only Benjamin/Martha marriage I've been able to locate is for a Benjamin Dimmock and Martha Austin on Mar. 25, 1844 in Clent Parish, Stafford/Worcester, ENG.

Both their father's names were James. Clent is near Halesowen Parish which is also partially in West Bromwich. I've found a James Dimmock living in Rowling Regis, co. Worcester, England in the 1861 census who has a son Jospeh, Ephraim and Alfred that match persons I had already theorized were related to Benjamin from evidence suggested under each of their names. (C:Doc, EL)

I can find no listing for any child except Benjamin or Martha in the 1871 listing under any spelling that belongs to this family. I can find son Alfred and daughter Keturah in the 1881 census. We know that Benjamin is still alive when he witnesses his daughter, Keturah's marriage in 1875, but he does not show up in the census records that I've found.

Benjamin is listed as an Iron dealer in his daughter, Keturah's wedding certificate, but as a "Butty Collier" (or chartermaster for the mines) in the 1861 census records. His wife, Martha, was a Milliner in the 1861 census. A likely brother or cousin is named Joseph Dimmack in the 1871 census records for Ridgacre, Worcestershire, England who was age 42, born in Springfield, Dudley, Worcestershire, England who was also an Iron Dealer. Joseph's wife's name was Ann. His nephew, age 11 was Albert Mathias who was visiting and born in West Bromwich which is located in Wolverhampton Parish. Albert's sister, Martha Bunn, age 7, was born in Bilston, (Wolverhampton Parish) and was also visiting. There were however, likely to be other Dimmack families in Dudley at the time, as there is a Benjamin Dimmack born about 1753 in Dudley at the same time our elder Benjamin is having children there and he does not list a son Benjamin in his household.

My father also remembered what he called 2nd cousins, Ephriam and Albert Dimmack. My father would have called a first cousin, once removed a 2nd cousin in his day too. Possible relatives are of similar peerage to Keturah who moved to the places Keturah had relatives: Wheeling, West Virginia, Dayton and Middletown, Ohio. A possible brother or relative of Benjamin that also emigrated is a Russell F. Dimmick who was born about 1840 and died in Sep. 1896 and is buried in Woodland Cemetery in Montgomery Co., Ohio (C-2454). There are two Albert Dimmicks in Wheeling West Virginia, one born in 1760 who was the son of Mathias and one who was born in Dec. of 1857 in West Virginia who was living in Wheeling, WV in the 1900 census records. There is a Benjamin Charles Dimmack who was married in Shropshire, co. Staffordshire, Wolverhampton Parish, England in 1873 that could be another of Keturah's cousins.

Benjamin married Martha AUSTIN on 25 Mar 1844 in Clent, Staffordshire, England, Great Britain. Martha (daughter of James AUSTIN and Caroline UNKNOWN) was born about 1821 in Madley, Shropshire, ENG; died after 1861 in Of Tranmere Parish, Cheshire, ENG. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    3. 16. (Benjamin) Charles DIMMACK  Descendancy chart to this point was born about Jan 1851 in Rowley, Staffordshire, ENG; died after 1873 in Of Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, ENG.
    4. 17. Keturah (Kitty) DIMMACK  Descendancy chart to this point was born on 2 Jun 1855 in West Bromwich, Staffordshire, ENG; died on 11 Feb 1918 in Dayton, Montgomery, OH, USA; was buried on 14 Feb 1918 in Woodland Cemetery, Dayton, Montgomery, OH, USA.
    5. 18. Martha Jane DIMMACK  Descendancy chart to this point was born in Summer 1857 in West Bromwich, Staffordshire, ENG; died in Oct 1904 in Salford, Lancashire.
    6. 19. Alice DIMMACK  Descendancy chart to this point was born about 1860 in West Bromwich, Staffordshire, ENG; died after 1861.

  2. 4.  Mary DIMOCKMary DIMOCK Descendancy chart to this point (2.James2, 1.Mary1) was born about 1827 in , Staffordshire, ENG; died after 1841.

  3. 5.  Mathias DIMMACKMathias DIMMACK Descendancy chart to this point (2.James2, 1.Mary1) was born about 1829 in Netherton, Staffordshire, ENG; died in 1897 in , Wolverhampton Parish, ENG.

    Notes:

It is my theory that Mathias Dimmack of Bilston, Wolverhampton Parish, England was the one who was a brother to my Benjamin. I state this because he was of the right age and named a daughter Keturah Ann who was almost the same age as my gr. grandmother Keturah Dimmack. He lived on the same street, St. No. 53 in Bilston as his likely son Thomas in the 1881 census. In the 1861 census, their surname was spelled Dunmack by the census taker. They lived in West Bromwich, Staffordshire, England at the time. This is the same Parish where my great grandmother Keturah was born in 1855. The 1841 and 1861 census says that Mathias was born in Rowley, Staffordshire, England in this census whereas the 1881 census lists him as being born in Netherton, Staffordshire, England. He lived in Bilston, Staffordshire, Wolverhampton, England at the time.

Family/Spouse: Elizabeth UNKNOWN. Elizabeth was born in 1831 in , Worcestershire, ENG; died after 1881 in Of Bilston, Staffordshire, Wolverhampton Parish, ENG. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    3. 22. Mathias DIMMACK  Descendancy chart to this point was born about 1857 in Staffordshire Or Worcestershire, England; died after 1881 in Of Bilston, Staffordshire, Wolverhampton Parish, ENG.
    4. 23. Albert Mathias DIMMACK  Descendancy chart to this point was born on 17 Apr 1860 in West Bromwich, Staffordshire, ENG; died on 31 Jan 1935 in Bethlehem St., Ritchie Country, Ohio, WV, USA; was buried on 4 Feb 1935 in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Marshall, West Virginia, USA.
    5. 24. Alfred DIMMACK  Descendancy chart to this point was born about 1872 in Bilston, Wolverhampton Parish, Staffordshire, ENG; died after 1881.
    6. 25. Elizabeth DIMMACK  Descendancy chart to this point was born about 1875 in Bilston, Wolverhampton Parish, Staffordshire, ENG; died after 1881.

  4. 6.  Joseph DIMMACKJoseph DIMMACK Descendancy chart to this point (2.James2, 1.Mary1) was born about 1831 in Springfield Dudley, Worcestershire, ENG; died after 1871 in Of Quinton, Worchestershire, ENG.

    Notes:

Joseph is a brother to Benjamin in the 1841 census. In the 1851 census, Joseph is age 20, and was a grocer by trade, not a coal miner like his father. Like brother Benjamin, he also later became an Iron Dealer and had a nephew Albert Mathias, age 11, visiting him in the 1871 census. Albert Dimmack is a name picked up in our side of the family. He and his wife also had niece Martha Bunn visiting them, age 7. If memory serves, the Civil Parish of Dudley was in parts of Staffordshire and Worcestershire, England where Joseph was born. According to the 1841 census, he was Born in Staffordshire and in later census records his birthplace is listed as Worcester. I expect the later to be true as the 1841 census only listed a checkmark if they were born in the current county of Staffordshire. The census taker simply checkmarked the whole family at that point in time.

The 1881 census does give support to another theory. An Ann Dimmack, head of household, who was born in 1829 in Quinton, Worcestershire, England where Joseph Dimmack lived in the 1871 census with his wife, has a servant, a gardener and 2 nephews living with her. One of them is my Alfred, b. abt 1848 in Dudley, Worcestershire, England. He was listed as married and a Dairy farmer at the time. Another nephew is also helping her on her farm. His name is Albert Dimmack, b. abt 1861 in Birkenhead, Cheshire, England.

He might be Mathias Dimmack's son Albert who was born in 1860 but in a different place or he could be a brother to my Alfred and was simply born after the 1861 census. It would mean that my Dimmack family moved right after the census to Birkenhead, Cheshire, England.

Family/Spouse: Ann UNKNOWN. Ann was born about 1829 in Quinton, Worcestershire, England; died after 1881 in Of Ridgacre, Worcestershire, ENG. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  5. 7.  Martha DIMOCKMartha DIMOCK Descendancy chart to this point (2.James2, 1.Mary1) was born about 1834 in , Staffordshire, ENG; died after 1841.

  6. 8.  Sarah DIMMOCKSarah DIMMOCK Descendancy chart to this point (2.James2, 1.Mary1) was born about 1836 in Rowley, Staffordshire, ENG; died after 1851 in Of Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, ENG.

  7. 9.  Matthew DIMMOCKMatthew DIMMOCK Descendancy chart to this point (2.James2, 1.Mary1) was born about 1838 in , Staffordshire, ENG; died after 1841.

  8. 10.  James DIMMACKJames DIMMACK Descendancy chart to this point (2.James2, 1.Mary1) was born about 1839 in Rowley, Staffordshire, ENG; died after 1881 in Deansgate, Manchester, Lancashire, ENG.

    Notes:

It appears that there is only one James Dimmack who matches by birthdate and place of birth with the James Dimmock who was the son of James Dimmock in the 1851 census. He worked in a warehouse. His wife was Sarah. They lived on 1 Thompson St. in Manchester, England in the 1881 census. In 1875, he might have been the James Dimmock that was a Lancashire county magistrate living at Radfield Hall. He was not living in his families home in the 1841 census when he would have been about age 2 but he's not showing up in any other household in the area either. If we can find him living with his grandparents, that would be a great clue. It is possible they had so many children at this point in time that they just forgot to list him.

Family/Spouse: Sarah UNKNOWN. Sarah was born about 1846 in Whitchurch, Spropshrire, ENG; died after 1881 in Of Deansgate, Manchester, Lacanshire, ENG. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Children:
    1. 26. Joseph I. DIMMACK  Descendancy chart to this point was born about 1868 in Bilston, Wolverhampton Parish, Staffordshire, ENG; died after 1881 in Of Deansgate, Manchester, Lacanshire, ENG.
    2. 27. Alfred DIMMACK  Descendancy chart to this point was born about 1875 in Manchester, Lancashire, ENG; died after 1881 in Of Deansgate, Manchester, Lacanshire, ENG.
    3. 28. E. DIMMACK  Descendancy chart to this point was born about 1877 in Manchester, Lancashire, ENG; died after 1881 in Of Deansgate, Manchester, Lacanshire, ENG.

  9. 11.  Ephraim DIMMOCK, Sr.Ephraim DIMMOCK, Sr. Descendancy chart to this point (2.James2, 1.Mary1) was born about 1841 in Rowley, Staffordshire, ENG; died on 30 Aug 1891 in , Ohio, West Virginia, USA.

    Notes:

It is highly likely that this Ephraim is the son of this James. I believe this to be true because my father said he had family in Wheeling, West Virginia because he had 2nd cousins in Ohio named Albert and Ephraim whom came from there. A DNA match on Ancestry is supporting this also between a person whom descends from Harriet, Ephraim's daughter, myself and 3 others all with matching DNA whom are descendants of Benjamin. Ephraim was a rag and junk dealer in the Wheeling town directories. He lived at 39 20th St. in 1888 and at 84 19th St. in 1890. He had Albert and Ephraim living with him in the 1888 diretory, suggesting that they were sons. Ephraim can be verified as the son of this Ephraim in his death certificate dated 1944. Albert can be verified as his brother in the 1920 census records for Montgomery Co., Ohio. He and his wife were born in England and had at least one child, Ephraim born in Bilston, England. According to their son, Ephraim's obituary, they emigrated to America when Ephraim was 11 calculating that to be about 1883/4. They are in the 1881 census for England before they emigrated with much of the information on this family coming from this source. He was a scrap iron dealer like his Benjamin Dimmack. According to this census he was born in Adenhill, England and had his children in Bilston, Staffordshire, England. This verifies that his son Ephraim was born in Bilston, and not Bristol as a family member reported in Ephraim Jr.'s death record. Ephraim Sr. and his family lived on 118 Pinfold St., Darlaston, Stafford, Eng in this 1881 census. I'm fairly certain that I have found Ephraim as a child living with his parents, James and Sarah Dimmock in the 1851 census. In it, it gives his birthyear the same as the 1881 census and his birthplace instead as Rowley, co. Worcestershire, England. I am unable to find either Adenhill in Staffordshire or Rowley Regis on current maps of Worcestershire, but I suspect that Rowley Regis would have been more accurate as that is where his parents were still living when Ephraim was a boy. Towns in that border area changed hands often as to what counties they were in. I believe this to be the same family because his brother Alfred was the next child born after him matching the age of his brother Alfred that moved to West Virginia and their likely brother Joseph that I had connected into this family earlier. It appears that Ephraim Sr. died before 1900 as Harriet Dimmick is in the 1900 census for Marshall Co., West Virginia with sons Ephraim, Frank and Arthur. Her eldest son, Albert and daughters are no longer living at home. Marshall is the county bordering Ohio County on the south and was originally formed from Ohio County, West Virginia. To summarize, we know the names of their children from various sources. Ephraim Jr. has his parents verified as Ephraim and Harriet in his death certificate. His brother is Albert in the 1920 census records for Ohio. Ephraim, Frank, and Aurthur are listed as Harriet's sons in the 1900 West Virginia census. Then two other daughters are listed by exact birth place in England in another descendants research. They were born just two miles from where Ephraim was born in England. These siblings names are mostly verified in Ephraim Jr.'s obituary.

    Notes:

Alfred was a bone dealer in the 1881 census for Darlaston, England. His parents are listed as James and Sarah Barnsley Dimmack in his death record in West Virginia. It says he was born in the same place as his likely brother, Ephraim which was listed as Hayden Hill, co. Worcester, ENG which was probably on the border of co. Worcestershire. I say this because his brother Ephraim by the same 1881 census says he was born in Aydenhill, Stafforshire, England which I believe is the same place, spelled phonetically. I haven't been able to find it's locality on the Internet but the border areas changed counties often according to my research. He and his family lived at Herbert Park, 2 House Jones Blds., Darlaston, Stafford, England.

His name was spelled Dimmack in his likely marriage record which occurred in Wolverhampton Parish, England though in the census it was spelled Dimmock. His wife and children immigrated in Nov./Dec. of 1881, so it is likely that he immigrated before them between the taking of the census and Nov. of 1881 when they are listed as passengers on the "City of Chester".

They are listed as brothers if they are the Alfred and Ephraim who were sons of James and Sarah Dimmock in the 1851 census for Rowley Regis, co. Worcestershire, England. They both were the older generation in the Wheeling, West Virginia directories by virture of the fact that they both owned a similar business and their own residences --- or at least they weren't boarders any longer.

Alfred is listed as a dealer in cotton rags, wrought and east iron scraps, old rope, bones, gum shoes, etc. In 1888, his location of his business and his home was the same at 2406-2408 Chaplline, Wheeling, WV. By 1892-3, his business included: metal refiner and smelter, mfr. plumbers' solder, babbitt metals... also dealer in cotton and woolen rags, tailors' clippings, rope, rubber, zinc, lead, heavy and light brass, coper, wrought and cast iron, stoves, heavy lump steel, heavy lump cast iron, steel scrap, bones, .... ect. He is listed as an Iron Dealer in his death record.

  1. 14.  Alfred DIMMACKAlfred DIMMACK Descendancy chart to this point (3.Benjamin3, 2.James2, 1.Mary1) was born about 1848 in Dudley, Worcestershire, ENG; died after 1881 in Of Ridgacre, Worcestershire, ENG.

    Notes:

There is an Alfred Dimmack who married in 1866 in West Bromwich, Shropshire/Staffordshire/Worcestershire, England who is likely to be this Alfred. His record needs ordered from the GRO in England. V6B, p.871.

He is also likely the Alfred visiting his Aunt Ann Dimmack, wife of Joseph Dimmack in the following 1881 census record. "An Ann Dimmack, head of household, who was born in 1829 in Quinton, Worcestershire, England where Joseph Dimmack lived in the 1871 census with his wife, has a servant, a gardener and 2 nephews living with her. One of them is my Alfred, b. abt 1848 in Dudley, Worcestershire, England. He was listed as married and a Dairy farmer at the time. Another nephew is also helping her on her farm. His name is Albert Dimmack, b. abt 1861 in Birkenhead, Cheshire, England."

He might be the son of Mathias Dimmack who was born in 1860 but who has a different birthplace listed in the 1871 census for him or he could be a brother to my Alfred and was simply born after the 1861 census. It would mean that my Dimmack family moved right after the census to Birkenhead, Cheshire, England if this is an accurate birthplace.

Alfred is not in the 1891 census for England. He might be the Alfred Dimmack living in Wheeling West, Virginia who lists his birthdate as 1845 instead in a U.S. census. If his wife's name turns out to match the wife in America, then this would make it rather likely as several of his siblings came to America after the 1881 census.

If this is the Alfred married to Harriet in Wheeling, West Virginia, then they had a daughter named Bessie in 1891 in Wheeling. If this is Fred who had a son named Ralph Eugene Dimmick in 1885 in Ansonia, Tioga Co., PA which was registered in the Roane, WV birth records than his wife's name was Myrtle Jessemin Dimmick instead.

    Notes:

The 1851 census gives his birthplace as Rowley, Staffordshire, England and the 1861 gives it as Five Ways, Worcestershire, England. Since he was only 3 months old in the first, I would imagine that the first record is more accurate. He is likely to be the Benjamin Charles Dimmock, b. 1851 who marries Susannah Mills on Jan. 2, 1873 in Bilston, Staffordshire, England. His father is listed as Benjamin.

  4. 17.  Keturah (Kitty) DIMMACKKeturah (Kitty) DIMMACK Descendancy chart to this point (3.Benjamin3, 2.James2, 1.Mary1) was born on 2 Jun 1855 in West Bromwich, Staffordshire, ENG; died on 11 Feb 1918 in Dayton, Montgomery, OH, USA; was buried on 14 Feb 1918 in Woodland Cemetery, Dayton, Montgomery, OH, USA.

    Notes:

According to her daughter, Maud, Kitty combed her hair with sage tea everyday so that everyone thought she had black hair until three weeks before her death. Albert Pickering nicknamed her "Roly Poly" because she was 4'9" and 140 lbs. She had a white poodle which she led on walks by carrying a sucker behind her. It worked quite well according to my father at keeping him following her. She was apparently an alcoholic, suffered with arthritis and died of a heart attack at about age 63. Her death certificate says she died of Chronic Brights Disease which is a disorder of the kidneys. (C-2, C:DOC) According to her obituary, she died at 8 o'clock in the morning on Feb. 11th. She was buried on Valentines' Day and her funeral was held at her daughter, Keturah Ritter's home. There were relatives listed in Albert Pickering Coate's Funeral Memory book in 1941 listed as Mr. and Mrs. E. Dimmack. They were Ephram and Daisy Dimmack from Middletown. According to my Dad, Albert Edward Coate, they were his 2nd cousins related to Keturah Dimmack Stevens. This could mean that they were 1st cousins once removed instead, but his family would call that relationship a second cousin. Ephram's brother was Albert Dimmack. Two of Albert's daughters had taken my father to their Episcopal Church a couple times (probably in Middletown.) (C-2078, 2517)

They are also related to Dimmacks in Wheeling, WV. (C-687) I have found a birth record for a Keturah Dimmock born the same day as our Keturah in Stourbridge, Kinswinford, co. Stafford, England that could be a relative of our Keturah. The birth record takes place on Jun 10, 1855 on 392 Moorelane. Parents, John Dimmock and Seah Priest Dimmock. (C-300) There is a marriage record another Keturah Ann Dimmack that I sent for that turns out to be a cousin to our Keturah. It's for a Keturah Ann Dimmack who marries a Richard Dawes on Mar. 4, 1876 (though it looks like 1846 - it was indexed as 1876) in Saint Peters Church, Wolverhampton Parish, co. Staffordshire, England. Her father is listed as Mathias Dimmack (our Keturah's Uncle) who was a horse dealer.

There is a Benjamin Dimmack in the London, England 1871 census, age 23, born in Lambeth, Surrey, ENG that would be the right age to be her cousin also. He could be the Benjamin Charles Dimmack that married in 1873 in Wolverhampton District which included parts of the counties of Shropshire, Staffordshire and West Midlands. Wolverhampton District is one place where several events in this family grouping appear to be recorded.

Keturah married John STEVENS, * on 2 Jun 1875 in Hackney, Middlesex, ENG. Notes:

Thomas J. is listed as the son of Mathias in the 1861 census for West Bromwich, Staffordshire, Engladn. His birthdate varies in each census record and is about 1855 in this one. His birthplace also varies. It is Rowley, Staffordshire, England in the 1861 census and Old Hill in the 1881 census. He lives at the same address as his father, Mathias in the 1881 census which was St. No. 53.

    Notes:

Old Mill is the birthplace listed for him in the 1881 census and it sounds a lot like the birthplace of his possible cousins which were Adenhill, Hayden Hill and Old Hill all in co. Worcestershire, England. However, in the earlier 1861 census, which is more likely to be correct it lists his birthplace as Rowley, Staffordshire, England. It is however, the birthplace listed for most of his siblings at that point in time.

  10. 23.  Albert Mathias DIMMACKAlbert Mathias DIMMACK Descendancy chart to this point (5.Mathias3, 2.James2, 1.Mary1) was born on 17 Apr 1860 in West Bromwich, Staffordshire, ENG; died on 31 Jan 1935 in Bethlehem St., Ritchie Country, Ohio, WV, USA; was buried on 4 Feb 1935 in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Marshall, West Virginia, USA.

    Notes:

I believe that the Albert born in 1860 according to his descendants is likely to be either the Albert born about 1861 in the 1881 census records for Bilston, England or the Albert b. abt 1861 in Berkenhead, Cheshire, England in the 1881 census for Ridgacre, Worcestershier, England who was the nephew of Ann Dimmack and living with her. Another nephew in the household of Ann Dimmack's was Alfred, b. abt 1848 in Dudley, Worcestershire, England. In the first case, he would be the son of Mathias Dimmack, b. 1830 in Netherton, England. Albert Sr. Dimack was age 60, b. in England and living in Jefferson Co., Steubenville, OH in the 1920 census. His youngest son, Albert Jr. was age 14 and had been born in West Virginia. The movement pattern, his name and his age makes him a possible cousin or brother to our Keturah Dimmack, though this obviously needs to be researched further.

Keturah does name a son Albert. He and his family would have come to Ohio after 1906 and more likely after 1910 as I don't remember seeing him in the 1910 census. Steubenville is on the Ohio River, so it would have been a logical migration pattern from Wheeling, WV. His birth date is from Derek Green's information on the Internet at Ancestry.com. He stated his birth place was Bilster, England. Since there is no such place that I can find, I suspect that it was an oral tradition that was misinterpreted and that Albert was born in Bilston, England where other Dimmacks of the same name have been located. (C-1901)

Albert is likely to have married in 1886 in Wolverhampton Parish, England which is the Parish that would include families living in Bilston. The record needs purchased, It was recorded in Dec. 1886, in Vol. 6B, p. 784. If it is him, it would belong to a first unknown wife as his wife Mary Katheirne Schmidt was born in 1870 on a ship coming to the U.S. from Denmark.

Albert is the correct age to be the nephew who visited Joseph Dimmack's home in the 1871 census, (Ridgacre, Ecclesiastical parish: Christchurch and Quinton, Town: Quinton, County/Island: Worcestershire, Country: England) making it somewhat likely that Joseph (also an Iron Dealer) is a brother to Albert's father.

Joseph Dimmack also had a niece visiting named Martha Bunn (Buren), age 7, born in Bilston according to the 1871 census records. Albert's place of birth however, is listed as West Bromwich in Staffordshire instead of Bilston in the 1881 census when his parents are giving his birthplace. That would have been the same place as possible cousin Keturah was born so it still all fits for time, place and naming patterns.

According to his death record, he was a metal refiner by trade. He was the son of Mathias and Elizabeth Dimmack. He was born Apr. 17, 1860 in Bilster, England. Mary Catherine Schmidt had been his wife preceding him in death. His parents were Elizabeth and Mathias Dimmack.

Albert married Mary Katherine SCHMIDT on 25 Jun 1902 in Wheeling, Ohio, West Virginia, USA. Mary was born on 11 Sep 1870 in On The Ship Coming To The Us From Denmark; died on 17 Oct 1930 in Bethlehem St., Ritchie Country, Ohio, WV, USA; was buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Marshall, West Virginia, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

In England in 1881, Albert was an assistant Iron dealer (probably to his father who was an Iron Dealer, employing 1). Albert and Harriet first lived in West Virginia, probably Wheeling, according to my father's memory. He is the likely person of that name in the 1888-9, and 1892-3 Town Directory. He was listed as a laborer boarding at the same address owned by Ephraim Dimmack Sr, 39 20th St. I'm guessing that it means he was a grown son of Ephraim Sr, but he simply could be a relative boarder instead. In the 1892 directory he was employed as a worker for the Whitake I. Co. and lived in the rear of 178 16th St. A family ancestral file at www.familysearch.com only lists 3 children for this Ephraim and Harriet and does not list Albert and Emphraim as their children. The census records let us know that they moved into PA to have one of their children about 1902 and then by 1903 they moved to Ohio, probably directly to Middletown, Ohio where they were in the 1910 census records. He and Harriet were naturalized citizens by 1910. (C-1901, 1902) They were buried in Woodside Cemetery in Middletown, Ohio, Section 6A, the same cemetery as his brother, Ephraim and relative Maude Stevens Coate. Their names are spelled Dimmack on their tombstones.

Albert married Harriet JEAVONS before 1892. Harriet was born about 1867 in , , , England; died in 1936 in Middletown, Butler, OH, USA; was buried in Woodside Cemetery, Middletown, Butler, OH, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

Ephraim was born in Bristol, England according to his death certificate. This turns out to be a slight error in the relative's memory that submitted his death certificate information. Ephraim's birth date according to the 1900 census for Marshall Co., WV was Oct. 1872. In this record he is listed as living with his mother, Harriet Dimmick.

There is also another Ephraim in Wheeling, WV who was born Apr. 1873. His death certificate says he was born in Oct. of 1873, but I believe this is an error because the English census records give his birthdate as 1872 in Bilston, Staffordshire co., England.

His World War I enlistment records give his birthdate as Oct. 8, 1874, making him 44. In the 1830 census, he also lists himself as being age 38 when they married again giving him a birth year of 1873 or 1874. The 1910 census gives him a birthdate of 1874. I suspect that his birthdate given when he was on a young age is more likely to be correct, but that remains to be seen as his adult records indicate that he was born a year or two later.

Ephraim came with his parents from England when he was about eleven years old. They first settled in Wheeling, West Virginia, but he lived the last 40 years of his life in Middletown, Ohio. Ephraim and Albert are listed as brothers in the 1910 Federal Census for Middletown, Ohio. They were living at their father's address in Wheeling, West Virginia in the 1880s. In the 1888 directory Ephraim was living at 39 20th St. and he as yet had no occupation.

He was one of the first rollers at Armco where he worked for 27 years. It was listed as the facility on the east side of Middletown in his draft papers. He then worked with the High School Manual Training Department until his last year of life when he worked as a watchman for Lemneck Products.

In the 1910 census, he was still single. He and Daisy married sometime after 1910. He is listed as having medium height, gray eyes and black hair in his Sep. 12, 1918 World War I Draft registration. That same record shows that he and his wife were living at 110 (710?) Logan St. in Middletown, Ohio at the time. By the 1920 census they lived at 818 Garfield St. in Middletown, Ohio. They never had any children. My father remembers that they were second cousins to him through his grandmother Keturah Dimmack. He has fond memories of them. Ephraim and Daisy's signatures are in my grandfather's funeral book in 1941. The photo of him in a car is likely he and one of his brothers likely taken in the early 1920's according to researcher Troi Nelson.

According to his obituary, he was a member of the Church of the Ascension, and three Masonic lodges, Jefferson Lodge No. 90, F.A.M. and Knights Templar and Scottish Rites. His residence at the time of his death was listed as 1333 Forest Ave., Middletown, Butler Co., Ohio. He was working as a watchman for the Lemneck Plant when he fell ill suddenly, and was rushed to the hospital. He died at Middletown Hospital after a 6 hour stay. (C-DOC)

    Notes:
