    For Williams descendants, his son John and Humphry moved to Somerset and Cecil Co. Maryland respectively. His son William might have moved to the states in some theories. His son Samuel's death date and place haven't been found. His grandson James, son of Alexander moved to Pennsylvania. He is the ancestor of American Statesman, John C. Calhoun.

    We do now have a triangulation for this William between my mother and two of her cousins that indicate we descend through this William or his ancestry. They are:
    A127179 , A092025, A102985, and A127179 on chromosome 17.

    Notes:

    I've found Samuel and Hugh with the exact same birthdate. This could be an error or they are twins. It seems that some descendants of Samuel married to Mary Hunter believe they descend from this William Campbell instead of through the Rhode Island lineage. We don't know which is correct. I did check my Mother's DNA for the Samuel of the Rhode Island crew and found poor DNA matches, so we're not likely to descend through this Samuel. She had only 2 matches for Samuel that weren't accounted for by other surnames and they were both in the mid 3 cM range which would exclude them from being a descendant of this William Campbell Calhoun.

    Notes:

    The only immigration record anywhere that matches any Calhoun to Virginia is this John Calhoun. He arrived in Virginia in 1727. He is listed under 6 index records in that year suggesting he came with 5 family members or possibly indentured servants. The former is more likely as he was several sons from being his father's first son who could have inherited his wealth. He probably was coming to America to improve his lot in the world. He would be the correct age to have a wife and 4 children at that point in time. The original records could help us clear this up. This is one of the six indexed items for him: Accession #: and 9999419977 Gale Id: 1166491, Source publication code: and 3700, Source: and Passenger and Immigration Lists Index He has no descendants up on Gedmatch as of Mar 24, 2018. By age and place, he very much needs his historical documents and DNA descendants located to verify his relationship to others.

    When studying migration patterns in Virginia, the Scotch Irish in the 18th century settled in the frontier developments. This suggests it would have been southwest of the towns at the time. There were 13 main towns established in the 1600-1700's that were Jamestown, Williamsburg, Petersburg, Onancock, Dumphries, Tappahannock, Yorktown, Norfolk, Fredericksburg, Alexandria, Lynchburg, and Charlottesville. They would have likely settled further west than these towns. John's possible son, James and also an Adam Calhoun were found in Lunenburg Co., Virginia records starting in the 1740's. Lunenburg Co. was approximately 100+ miles from Williamsburg, so the frontier was literally just 100+ miles from the original settlements in Virginia starting in the early 1600's. John would have lived someplace in this southeastern part of the state most likely. The Calhouns at that time would have to have traveled by river or horseback. These are noted to give us clues about which counties to hunt for them in.

    One researcher is placing Samuel's children in Shrewsbury, Worcester, Massachusetts including a son James born 1722 with all of his children being born there. That means he would have emigrated to Massachusetts before 1722. I have checked his DNA (A711521 at Gedmatch) against my mothers and they had no matching segments from 1 cM on up. This is normal for this far back. I need a lot larger sample to determine that he's not our common relative. His death date is listed as 1729 or 1749 in second hand trees.

    He is often listed as the son of James and Catherine Montgomery Calhoun instead. If so, his wife with the surname of Long died in the 1760 Cherokee Indian Uprising when 150 settlers were trying to get out of harms way by moving to Augusta Co., VA. He is often attributed to the the same James who died in Lancaster, PA and married a 2nd time in 1766 at about age 70 to Elizabeth Wilson. He is supposedly in Probate records for Lancaster Co., PA in 1772. C 1 137 There are no DNA descendants of this James Calhoun on Gedmatch as of 3/24/2018 to help us determine if he is our ancestor. The 2 sons I have attributed to him would by age be more likely his grandsons buried in the same cemetery as he is. We in essence do not know any of his children's names.
