8. | ![]() ![]() Notes: According to "Gallia Co., Ohio, People in History to 1980", Elizabeth helped her mother spin, weave, knit and cook for their family before she married. Her nickname was Betsey. Her marriage record in 1836 was the first record of this family being in Gallia County. The rest of her family appears in the 1840 census. Her father did not actually buy his property in Raccoon Twp., until 1841. Her family has very few names that it repeats amongst the generations surrounding Elizabeth.... In her siblings, Elizabeth, Mary and Ann are repeated, but the boys names all seem to vary. I can't tell where any of Elizabeth's children were named after her side of the family, and we don't know Thomas J. Morgan's side of the family to be able to check that. She is listed at age 58 in the 1880 census records for Jackson Co., Ohio. Her birthdate, place and death date came from a page inserted in the family bible as scanned into Ancestry in 2011. It was a page written when some of their children were still alive. She was born deep in South Wales. Elizabeth married Thomas J. MORGAN, * on 19 Dec 1836 in , Gallia, OH, USA. Thomas (son of John Morgan and Ann Jones) was born on 20 Feb 1813; was christened in 1813 in Cardiganshire, Wales; died on 13 Aug 1852 in Rio Grande, Gallia, Ohio, USA; was buried after 31 Aug 1852 in Ebenezer Cemetery, Thurman, Raccoon Twp, Gallia, OH, USA. 10. | ![]() ![]() Notes: It is probable that David Reese married twice, the first time to a Martha. I suspect this because Martha A. Noel Reese, wife of David, died on Sep 31, 1851, age 26y, 5m and 17d and is buried at Old Pine Cemetery in Raccoon Twp., Gallia Co., Ohio David is the only Rees by that name living in Raccoon Twp. and he would have been her age. He is in the 1860 census for Raccoon Twp., Gallia Co., OH, p. 233, living in the house before John Rees who is next to Elizabeth Rees Phillps (their sister). His wife's name was Ann, age 30. Both were born in Wales. They had daughters Elizabeth (age 4) and Mary (age 2). In the 1870 census, David is 44, b. Wales. His wife, Ann, is 40, b. Wales and they have multiple children as well as his father living with them. David Rees, b. 1826, d. 1909, is buried in Rehobeth Cemetery on the north side of Ebenezer Carmel Road, Section 6 of Raccoon Twp., Gallia Co., Ohio He is married to Ann, b. 1829 who died in 1901 and was buried next to her husband. An early Welsh Church of the same name once stood where the small cemetery still is. (CL-88, 573) David married Martha A. NOEL on 29 Mar 1849 in , Gallia, OH, USA. 11. | ![]() ![]() Notes: John moved to Minnesota after the Civil War according to "Gallia County Ohio, People in History". There is a John living in Blue Earth County, Minnesota in the 1870 and 1880 census records. In 1880, this John Rees is age 54, b. Wales. He was a farmer. His wife was Mary, age 40, b. Ohio His has 2 stepdaughters, Maggie Roberts and Elizabeth Roberts, age 20 and 17 respectively, b. in Minnesota. All of his own children were also born in Minnesota. Annie, age 13, Emma, age 11, Ellen, age 9, Catherine, age 7, Esther, age 4; and William Rees, age 1. This doesn't appear to match the information on him in "Gallia County Ohio People in History to 1980" as stated below. (CL-711) |

13. | ![]() ![]() Notes: Her name has not been located. She could be any of the following Rees's that married in Gallia County, Ohio in the correct time period.1) Catherine Rees m. David Jenkins on Mar 8, 1862.2) Annie Rees m. James Sherrit on Nov 6, 1866.3) Louisa A. Rees m. Charles H. Jourdan on Dec. 1, 1864.4) Phebe Reese m. Martin V.B. Wooton on Jan 16, 1867. If she is one of these, she is likely one of the earlier ones and not the later ones. |

15. | ![]() ![]() Notes: Her first name and middle initial were difficult to read on the 1850 census. The middle initial could have been an S or an E. In the 1860 census it is clearly an E. She was age 14 in this latter census. She is living with her mother and her second husband, David Phillips. In the 1880 Wayne Co., OH census it says that she or her family can't read or write. Barbary married Henry BEVINGTON on 2 Nov 1876 in , Wayne, OH, USA. Henry was born in 1831 in , Wayne, OH, USA; died after 1880 in Of Union, Wayne, OH, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

17. | ![]() ![]() Notes: His middle initial on the 1850 census was hard to read. It could have been an I, F or J. In the 1860 census is looks more like an I or a T. It is definitely not an F or J in that later census. In the 1870 census it looks like a T. He was 17 in the 1860 census and a farm hand. He was born in Ohio. In the 1874 Atlas for Gallia Co., OH, he might be the E.J. Morgan that lives 2 sections below and one to the right of the J. Rees (his uncle?), in Perry Twp., Gallia Co., Ohio. Specifically he owned land in section 9 and below it in section 16 of Perry Twp. However, if this isn't him then the following info fits him well. There is an Edward T. Morgan in the 1880 census for Washington, Clermont Co., OH married to an Aletia that might be him. He was age 36, b. Ohio His parents were both born in Wales. His wife was age 33, born Kentucky. His children were named Harry, age 11; Bertha, age 9; Frank E., age 7; Charles O., age 4 and Grace, age 1 month. They were all born in Ohio. In the 1910 census, Edward T. Morgan, age 66 and his wife Aletia were living in Pottawatomie, VA. There is an Edward Morgan born 5/16/1843 who died on 12/19/1998 in Bonneville, Idaho who would also match him. A copy of his death record needs obtained to know if it stated that he was born in Ohio or who his parents were. Edward married Orphy E. THOMAS on 15 May 1877 in , Gallia, OH, USA. Orphy died after 1877. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] Family/Spouse: Aletia Ann MORGAN. Aletia was born on 17 Mar 1847 in Rural, Clermont County, Ohio, United States of America; died on 24 Oct 1940 in Havensville, Pottawatomie County, Kansas, United States of America; was buried in Havensville, Pottawatomie County, Kansas, United States of America. 19. | ![]() ![]() Notes: Thomas is listed as a Phillips in the 1870 census, age 18, a coal miner, still living at home with Elizabeth & David Phillips. (CL-583) There is a Thomas Morgan who died in 1929 in Trumball, Ohio but I suspect that that Thomas belongs to a long line of Thomas in Trumball, Ohio instead. Thomas married Sadie MCLAUGHLIN on 17 Feb 1878 in , Perry, OH, USA. Sadie died after 12 Oct 1929. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
