There is only a birth record for their first daughter Elizabeth in this source currently. Charles might be the following: Great Britain, War Office Registers, 1772-1935 Name:
    Charles Rees
    Event Type:
    Military Service
    Event Date:
    21 Apr 1803
    Event Place:
    United Kingdom
    Age:
    18
    Birth Year (Estimated): 1785

Charles is listed as a Fireman in each of his children's baptismal records. Charles and his wife were able to leave hard times in Wales when his wife was left bequests by her Uncle. They lived shortly in Pittsburg, PA where Charles made money as a glassblower. They were in Raccoon Twp., Gallia Co., Ohio by 1840 as they were in the census living two houses from Thomas Morgan in the 1840 census. He was between age 50 and 60, his wife from 40-50, with 4 sons from 10-15, and 1 daughter under age 5 in Raccoon Twp., Gallia Co., Ohio. Elizabeth is married by the time of this census and is not a daughter listed in this family. (CL-88)

He supposedly sent gold to the Chillicothe land office to buy his 40 acres in Gallia Co., OH on Jun 25, 1841. He was listed of Gallia Co. at the time of this purchase. They settled there because of friends and apparent family living in the area. John Rees married to Margaret Campbell on May 20, 1813 in Gallia appears from records to be the brother of Charles. This is probably John Rees, a native of Wales, who d. on May 7, 1863 and was buried in Ebenezer Cemetery also. (CL-606) It is also likely that Charles named his 2nd son John after his brother. Charles had selected a heavily wooded lot in Raccoon Twp. With the help of sons Charles, David, John and little George, they built a two-story log cabin and cleared land for crops. (CL-588)

Sometime before 1850, his wife contracted cancer and died. Charles married two more times. One of these appears to be Eleanor Campbell in 1858 as he is likely the Charles living with wife Eleanor in the 1860 census for Raccoon Twp. on pg. 235, living within pages of the rest of his family. In that census, he is 65 years of age, born in England (Monmouthshire Co., sometimes Wales, mostly England), wife's name was Eleanor. They had a daughter named Melissa E. living with them, age 10. She would have been Eleanor's daughter.

In the 1870 census, he is with his son David and next to his son George. He is listed as helping his son for occupation. His age is given at 72, born in Wales. The two households before him are also relatives, the families of David and Edward Evans. He was buried beside his first wife in Gilboa Cemetery. His stone is no longer in existence as they were destroyed by vandals. Charles Sr.'s Son's Charles, David, and John went into steam boating on the Ohio River during the Civil War. After the war, Charles moved to Tennesee. John moved to Minnesota and David returned to the farm.

In the 1851 Census records, there is one other Reese that was born in the same town, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, Wales in a similar time period. He was William Reese, born in 1793 married to Elizabeth Reese and having son, Thomas, b. 1833. They lived in Chepstow, Monmouthshire, Wales at the time. It is likely that William is a relative of, or possibly brother to Charles Reese. (EL)

Charles married Elizabeth PARRY, * on 6 Dec 1819 in Abergavenny, Llanarth, Monmouthshire, Wales. Elizabeth (daughter of John PARRY and Mary LEWIS) was born about Apr 1794 in Raglan, Monmouthshire, Wales; was christened on 10 May 1794 in St. Cadoc, Raglan, Monmouthshire, Wales; died about 1858 in Raccoon, Gallia, Ohio, USA; was buried in Gilboa Cemetery, Gallia, OH, USA. Notes:

He is likely the John Rees listed in his niece's husband, Thomas J. Morgan's administration of his estate in 1752. He is buried in Ebenezer Cemetery in Gallia Co., Ohio. He is listed as a native of Wales in his Gallia Co., Ohio Burial Index.

He might have died in 1797 in Abergavenny instead, but since no father's name was given, this suggests he was at least 21 years of age and does not account for this John.

Family/Spouse: Unknown. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    1. 14. David J REESE  Descendancy chart to this point was born in 1843; died in 1921; was buried in Raccoon Township, Gallia County, Ohio, United States of America.

    Notes:

According to "Gallia Co., Ohio, People in History to 1980", Elizabeth helped her mother spin, weave, knit and cook for their family before she married. Her nickname was Betsey. Her marriage record in 1836 was the first record of this family being in Gallia County. The rest of her family appears in the 1840 census. Her father did not actually buy his property in Raccoon Twp., until 1841. Her family has very few names that it repeats amongst the generations surrounding Elizabeth.... In her siblings, Elizabeth, Mary and Ann are repeated, but the boys names all seem to vary. I can't tell where any of Elizabeth's children were named after her side of the family, and we don't know Thomas J. Morgan's side of the family to be able to check that. She is listed at age 58 in the 1880 census records for Jackson Co., Ohio. Her birthdate, place and death date came from a page inserted in the family bible as scanned into Ancestry in 2011. It was a page written when some of their children were still alive. She was born deep in South Wales.

Elizabeth married Thomas J. MORGAN, * on 19 Dec 1836 in , Gallia, OH, USA. Thomas (son of John Morgan and Ann Jones) was born on 20 Feb 1813; was christened in 1813 in Cardiganshire, Wales; died on 13 Aug 1852 in Rio Grande, Gallia, Ohio, USA; was buried after 31 Aug 1852 in Ebenezer Cemetery, Thurman, Raccoon Twp, Gallia, OH, USA. 5. 9.  Charles REESE, Jr.Charles REESE, Jr. Descendancy chart to this point (3.Charles2, 1.Martha1) was born on 26 Nov 1824 in Nantyglo, Aberystruth, Monmouthshire, Wales; died after 1865 in Of Tn, USA; was buried in Ebenezer Cemetery, Thurman, Raccoon Twp, Gallia, OH, USA.

    Notes:

Even though he moved to Tennessee, he was buried back at home in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Mrs. Florence Wickline says he was born in Monmouthshire, Wales and was the son of Charles and Ann Perry Rees in "Cemeteries of Raccoon Twp." She said they were buried at Ebenezer without markers. This is a county that is currently in England and was part of Wales at periods in history.

You will note that her memory of her ancestor's name was Ann, but that "Gallia County People in History" states that it was Elizabeth. It is Elizabeth in the baptismal records for Charles Jr. Buried at Ebenezer along with Charles is his infant child.

Charles married Elizabeth UNKNOWN about 1847 in , Gallia, OH, USA. Elizabeth was born about 1827 in , , Wales; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  6. 10.  David REESEDavid REESE Descendancy chart to this point (3.Charles2, 1.Martha1) was born on 25 Jun 1826 in Nantyglo, Aberystruth, Monmouthshire, Wales; was christened on 13 Aug 1826 in St. Peter, Nantyglo, Monmouthshire, Wales; died in 1909 in Raccoon Twp., Gallia, OH, USA; was buried in Rehobeth Cemetery, Raccoon Twp. Gallia, OH, USA.

    Notes:

It is probable that David Reese married twice, the first time to a Martha. I suspect this because Martha A. Noel Reese, wife of David, died on Sep 31, 1851, age 26y, 5m and 17d and is buried at Old Pine Cemetery in Raccoon Twp., Gallia Co., Ohio David is the only Rees by that name living in Raccoon Twp. and he would have been her age. He is in the 1860 census for Raccoon Twp., Gallia Co., OH, p. 233, living in the house before John Rees who is next to Elizabeth Rees Phillps (their sister). His wife's name was Ann, age 30. Both were born in Wales. They had daughters Elizabeth (age 4) and Mary (age 2). In the 1870 census, David is 44, b. Wales. His wife, Ann, is 40, b. Wales and they have multiple children as well as his father living with them. David Rees, b. 1826, d. 1909, is buried in Rehobeth Cemetery on the north side of Ebenezer Carmel Road, Section 6 of Raccoon Twp., Gallia Co., Ohio He is married to Ann, b. 1829 who died in 1901 and was buried next to her husband. An early Welsh Church of the same name once stood where the small cemetery still is. (CL-88, 573)

David married Martha A. NOEL on 29 Mar 1849 in , Gallia, OH, USA. Martha was born about 1825; died on Sep 31, 1851 in , Gallia, OH, USA; was buried in Old Pine Cemetery, Raccoon Twp., Gallia, OH, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

David married Ann EVANS on 28 Apr 1855 in , Gallia, OH, USA. Ann (daughter of Isaac S. EVANS and Mary UNKNOWN) was born in 1829; died in 1901 in Raccoon Twp., Gallia, OH, USA; was buried in Rehobeth Cemetery, Raccoon Twp. Gallia, OH, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  7. 11.  John REESEJohn REESE Descendancy chart to this point (3.Charles2, 1.Martha1) was born on 4 Jun 1828 in Aberystruth, Monmouthshire, Wales; was christened on 29 Jun 1828 in Nantyglo, Aberystruth, Monmouthshire, Wales; died after 1865 in Of Minnesota, USA.

    Notes:

John moved to Minnesota after the Civil War according to "Gallia County Ohio, People in History". There is a John living in Blue Earth County, Minnesota in the 1870 and 1880 census records. In 1880, this John Rees is age 54, b. Wales. He was a farmer. His wife was Mary, age 40, b. Ohio His has 2 stepdaughters, Maggie Roberts and Elizabeth Roberts, age 20 and 17 respectively, b. in Minnesota. All of his own children were also born in Minnesota. Annie, age 13, Emma, age 11, Ellen, age 9, Catherine, age 7, Esther, age 4; and William Rees, age 1. This doesn't appear to match the information on him in "Gallia County Ohio People in History to 1980" as stated below. (CL-711)

Any of the following Johns might be Charles son John. According to "Gallia County Ohio People in History to 1980", he had a son John and 3 others named Charles, David and George. All four of these sons are probably his 4 sons listed in the 1840 census between age 10 and 15. There don't seem to be any John's matching this age range in Gallia Co., OH records. Therefore, he might be anyone of the following instead.1) John Reese who married unknown in Addison Twp., Gallia Co., OH printed in the Aug 2, 1845 Gallipolis Journal. (Torn)2) John Rees married Harriet Smith on Aug 19, 1847 in Gallia Co., Ohio*3) John Reese, age 56 and wife Ann, age 56, both born in Wales in the 1860 census for Raccoon Twp., Gallia Co., OH, p. 234, living right next door to Elizabeth Phillips at this point in time (his possible sister???) There is a possibility that the census taker misunderstood their ages and wrote down 56 when it should have been 36 for each of them.... or this John is born much earlier and was not a son living with Charles in the 1840 census... his age is what seems off. He is living between Elizabeth and her brother David Rees.... It has to be the same family from location and timing.4) John Rees, in the 1860 Raccoon Twp., Gallia Co., OH census, p. 210 who was age 45, born in Wales and married to a "Jana", age 36 with children named Mary A., Ellen, John, Elizabeth, (Saml.), Evan, Daniel, and (Aaron?).5) J. Rees living in Raccoon Twp., Gallia Co., Ohio in 1874, Twp. 6, Range 16, section 32. If he is this one, then their is an E. Reese living adjacent to him in that same section that is a likely relative.6) John Reese, age 50 in 1880, in the Cleveland, Cuyahog Co., OH census. His parents were born in Wales. He was and Iron Mill worker. His wife was Eliza Reese, age 51 and son William, age 18 was still living at home. (CL-709)

  8. 12.  George REESEGeorge REESE Descendancy chart to this point (3.Charles2, 1.Martha1) was born on 21 May 1830 in , , Wales; died after 1870 in Of Raccoon Twp., Gallia, OH, USA.

    Notes:

He is in the 1860 census for Raccoon Twp., Gallia County, Ohio on page 222. He was 31 years of age, a farmer, born in England (note that the county they were born in, in Wales had become England again and was usually under English rule (Monmouthshire). His wife, Mary Ann, was age 24 years. They had children named Elinor, Elizabeth, and Anna. In 1870, they live in Raccoon Twp., Gallia Co., Ohio He is age 40. His wife, Mary A. is age 34. He was listed as being born in Wales. His wife is listed as being born in Ohio.

George married Mary Ann EVANS on 8 Jul 1854 in , Gallia, OH, USA. Mary was born about 1836 in , , OH, USA; died after 1870 in Of Raccoon Twp., Gallia, OH, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

Her name has not been located. She could be any of the following Rees's that married in Gallia County, Ohio in the correct time period.1) Catherine Rees m. David Jenkins on Mar 8, 1862.2) Annie Rees m. James Sherrit on Nov 6, 1866.3) Louisa A. Rees m. Charles H. Jourdan on Dec. 1, 1864.4) Phebe Reese m. Martin V.B. Wooton on Jan 16, 1867. If she is one of these, she is likely one of the earlier ones and not the later ones.

    Notes:

Her first name and middle initial were difficult to read on the 1850 census. The middle initial could have been an S or an E. In the 1860 census it is clearly an E. She was age 14 in this latter census. She is living with her mother and her second husband, David Phillips. In the 1880 Wayne Co., OH census it says that she or her family can't read or write.

    Notes:

His middle initial on the 1850 census was hard to read. It could have been an I, F or J. In the 1860 census is looks more like an I or a T. It is definitely not an F or J in that later census. In the 1870 census it looks like a T. He was 17 in the 1860 census and a farm hand. He was born in Ohio. In the 1874 Atlas for Gallia Co., OH, he might be the E.J. Morgan that lives 2 sections below and one to the right of the J. Rees (his uncle?), in Perry Twp., Gallia Co., Ohio. Specifically he owned land in section 9 and below it in section 16 of Perry Twp. However, if this isn't him then the following info fits him well. There is an Edward T. Morgan in the 1880 census for Washington, Clermont Co., OH married to an Aletia that might be him. He was age 36, b. Ohio His parents were both born in Wales. His wife was age 33, born Kentucky. His children were named Harry, age 11; Bertha, age 9; Frank E., age 7; Charles O., age 4 and Grace, age 1 month. They were all born in Ohio. In the 1910 census, Edward T. Morgan, age 66 and his wife Aletia were living in Pottawatomie, VA. There is an Edward Morgan born 5/16/1843 who died on 12/19/1998 in Bonneville, Idaho who would also match him. A copy of his death record needs obtained to know if it stated that he was born in Ohio or who his parents were.

Edward married Orphy E. THOMAS on 15 May 1877 in , Gallia, OH, USA. Orphy died after 1877. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

Thomas is buried next to his father in Ebenezer Cemetery. No date is listed, just the inscription, "My little Tomey".

Thomas is buried in Ebenezer Cemetery. No date is listed, just the inscription, "My little Tomey". We know from my mother and histories that Thomas J. Morgan, Sr. died first because he was the first person buried at Ebenezer. We know that Thomas J. Morgan's administration that was filed in Feb. of 1853 does not name Thomas Jr. Therefore, "My little Tomey" is Elizabeth's reference to her son Thomas, Jr. who died after Thomas Sr. and before the administration of Thomas Sr.'s estate. Elizabeth and her children had an extremely difficult 7 months between 1852 and 1853. My mother also told me how sad her great-grandmother was that she lost little Tomey when he was so young. Her mother had relayed these tragedies to her about her own grandparents and Uncle.

This young Thomas appears to have had a sibling named after him and his father and born within range of his father's death. This Thomas J. Morgan Jr. lived into adulthood.

    Notes:

Thomas is listed as a Phillips in the 1870 census, age 18, a coal miner, still living at home with Elizabeth & David Phillips. (CL-583) There is a Thomas Morgan who died in 1929 in Trumball, Ohio but I suspect that that Thomas belongs to a long line of Thomas in Trumball, Ohio instead.

Thomas married Sadie MCLAUGHLIN on 17 Feb 1878 in , Perry, OH, USA. Sadie died after 12 Oct 1929. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
