    Notes:

His birth date is also given as 1060. He was crowned King of England in 1087 and called King Rufus. He was ruthless and highly disliked. He was shot with an arrow while hunting by Sir Walter Tyrol. The Church refused to bury him, such was their animosity. There is a stone, called the Rufus Stone to mark the spot where he died and a ballad about Tyrol killing King Rufus. Some historians believe that it was a planned murder designed by his brother Henry and Tyrol to gain power and rid the country of a tyrant.
