Therese Rosa, daughter of Herr Julius Link and his legal wife, Elizabeth Ekstein, born 22 February, 1897 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Baptized 6 June 1897 by the undersigned Christen Merkel. Witness: Rosa Link Seal: St. Matthews Evangelical Lutheran Church at Philadelphia. The seal imprinted on the original document as translated by Matthias Seifert is: German Evangelic Lutheran Mathew Community (of) unaltered Augsburgh(ish) Confession of Philadelphia, 1891. This would have been a very traditional sect at the time as the Augsburgh Confession was the first Lutheran written set of standards presented to the Roman Emperer in 1530. (E, F-109)

Theresia volunteered as a member of the Red Cross Motor Corps during World War II. She died of a brain tumor in her 50's and was greatly missed. She was said to be a very gentle woman who was able to raise a large family without ever raising her voice. She is buried in Lot #381, Section 27 of Calvary Cemetery, in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Theresia married Norman Leroy FORTE, Sr. on 5 Jul 1915 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Walter was born after his father died. He went to Girard College in Philadelphia, PA at age 16 and he was 18 or slightly older when his mother died. He might be the Walter Link, age 22, in the 1920 census for the Assembly District, Manhatten, New York, New York as a dock laborer. If so, he had a first wife we didn't know about named Blanche, age 23, born Ohio. What doesn't agree here, is that he states he was born in New York. Since he married Mabel in 1921, it's highly unlikely that this census matches our Walter Link.

Aurelia was possibly the Aurelia Link in the 1920 census for the 15th ward of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania She was 18 at the time and listed as the head of household. She was living with a girlfriend, Dorothy (Barth), age 22, who was married. She has a profession listed that I am unable to read. The only facts that don't agree with known information is that she lists her and her parent's birth places as Maryland. Aurelia probably married her second husband after 1930 as they are not to be found in census records up to that point in time. Aurelia or Auntie as this branch of the family fondly called her, worked most of her life as a proofreader for the Atlantic City World Newspaper. She finally gained membership in the Union and that gave her her best job at the Atlantic City Press from where she retired. She was well loved and thought of by my husband's family.

Julius was called Jules according to his cousins. Leo Link, son of Vincenz, believes he worked for the Philadelphia "Bulletin". This has not been verified. He was married and his wife died several years before a letter dated 1981 from Jim Dudick's Gr. Aunt Mabel. According to Mabel, he died a few years after Aurelia did.

Henry graduated in Dec. 1942 from officer candidate school at Camp Lee, Va. during World War II. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps to begin his service in the war. (F-DOC)

Henry married Rae Helen HOWARD on 30 May 1943 in Portland, Multnomah, OR, USA. Rae was born on 17 Feb 1918 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, OH, USA; died on 30 May 2002 in Las Vegas, Clark, Nevada, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

Bud was a World War II hero. He was shot down in Java, participated in 35 bombing raids and saw over 200 hours of actual combat. He was decorated for gallantry for his service as a radio operator and belly gunner on a Flying Fortress in the Pacific. He was stricken with malaria on the day of his flight home from Australia. His finance lived in Australia and was to come marry him in the states.

Due to the poor health of one of her family members, she stayed there and he rejoined her to marry in that country. They were residents of Melbourne, Australia when his father died back in the states in 1980. He lived there the rest of his life in Australia and was only able to visit America as an older gentleman. He had four daughters, all whom seem to be truly lovely souls, including their large families. In his memorial book, he was missed for the way he made his family laugh, the swing on the large apple tree which he constantly kept in repair, his love of Eskimo pies and biscuits, his dislike of offtune singing and for the part of him that just couldn't be replaced!! I'm sure all this was said with the wonderful sense of humor of this branch of the family. (F-DOC)

She graduated from Westmont High School in 1937. Betty took free training classes at Penn State that enabled her to worke as an inspector for the ordinance section of the Navy Dept. at the Conshohocken plant in Norristown, PA during World War II. She literally had to live away from her husband to join in the service. They had expected her husband to be drafted at the time and this gave her a way to help her country and earn $35.00 a week salary while he was gone. (F-653) She and her husband had a daughter, Melissa and adopted twin boys named William and John. The boys moved away as young adults and have not been heard of in years.

Betty's obituary is as follows from the Columbus Dispatch, Columbus, Ohio: TRUXAL Marie E. "Betty" Truxal, age 86, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio died on April 30 2004 at her daughter's home. Member of Church of Our Lady. Veteran of WW II-USAAF. Preceded in death by husband Charles "Jack" Truxal, brothers Henry L. Forte, Norman L. Forte, and William B. Forte. Survived by daughter, Melissa (Ronald) Barber; sister, Doris (John) Dudick; sisters-in-law, Anne P. Forte and Lois E. James; and brother-in-law, Mark (Wilma) Truxal and grandchildren, Nathan B. (Kelley) Doerfler, Roger J. (Heather) Doerfler, and Timothy C. Doerfler; two great grandchildren, Kyle Douglas and Ethan Chase Doerfler; and several nieces and nephews. Friend may call at the HILL FUNERAL HOME, 220 S. State St., Westerville 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St Paul Catholic Church, 313 N. State St., Westerville. He received a degree in Physics from Grove City College (Grove City, PA). William served on active duty in the Navy during World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific. He was employed as a research engineer for National Gypsum Co. for 30 years before retiring in 1983. He and his wife were devout Catholics attending St. Gregory. He was previously a member of the Amherst Players. Other interests of his included bowling and golf. I remember him for his great smile, friendly and easy going disposition. Doris was an intelligent woman who followed her own sense of direction. She was a catholic whom as an adult decided that going to church was not valuable. She gave sage advice and was a very strong minded individual. She was a good homemaker, fine cook, hostess, knitter, and crafter. She worked outside the home until her children were in their teens. This is the age where she decided it was important to be at home with them. She helped raise 4 unique, talented individuals and had a significant hand in helping with several of her grandchildren when they were young. Upon her death at age 84 from pulmonary fibrosis which she suffered from for many years, she was cremated as per her wishes.

Notes:

James grew up in Bradford, PA and Columbus, Ohio. He got his electrical engineering degree from Case Institute of Technology now known as Case Western. He had his own business called Micromax for most of his career where he was designing his own small business computer in his home when Bill Gates was designing the Mac in his garage.

He spent his 50's and 60's working for other companies. In these capacities, he had the opportunity to create a video camera that scanned the bottom of the oceans for World War II bombs. He also developed a tiny cochlear implant to enable the deaf to hear. His last job was with FedEx as their Principal Engineer. The tiny devices that go on their packages to track packages were developed by him.

He was a very intelligent man, a good father, and a loving husband.
